RATTLERS CATCHER MITCHELL PROPHET CAUGHT THREE BARONS BASE RUNNERS Todd Simko pitched five and two thirds shutout innings Compton, CA (July 28, 2010) – The SLO Rattlers had a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning and had not committed an error. The Rattlers were not able keep the lead or come back in the top of the ninth inning to win. The SLO Rattlers lost to the MLB Academy Barons, 4-1. Catcher Mitchell Prophet caught three Barons runners trying to steal second base, once in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The first and third time he did it with the help of shortstop Robert Vickers and the second time with Bobby Buckner. Todd Simko (Cuesta College) started for the Rattlers going five and two thirds shutout innings. He gave up four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Jimmy Allen (Rancho Buena Vista HS/Cal Poly SLO) started off the game with a single up the middle. With one out Robert Vickers (College of the Canyons) doubled to left center putting runners at second and third. The Rattlers were not able to score in the inning.

Matt Anderson (Cuesta College) singled to center field with one out in the second inning. Bobby Buckner (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) singled to left field with two out in the third inning. Robert Vickers singled to left field putting runners at first and third. Joe Etcheverry (Northern Illinois University) walked to start off the fourth inning, but a double play did not help the Rattlers. Matt Anderson tripled to right center. Davey Schultz (Cuesta College) doubled to down the right field line to start off the fifth inning. Jimmy Allen singled down the right field line scoring Davey Schultz. He moved to second on Bobby Buckner’s sacrifice fly and third on a groundout. The Rattlers took a 1-0 lead.


Rattlers catcher Mitchell Prophet (Cuesta College) caught a Barons runner trying to steal second for the third out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gabe Loweree (Ave Maria University) was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth inning. Mitchell Prophet caught another Barons runner trying to steal second for the second out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Michael Nielebeck (Cuesta College) came in the sixth inning with two outs and pitched one and a third innings. He gave up one hit. Bobby Buckner walked with two out in the seventh inning. Another Barons runner was caught trying to steal second for the second out in the seventh inning by Mitchell Prophet. Mitchell Prophet reached first on an error in the eighth inning. With one out, Gabe Loweree reached on a fielder’s choice. Matt Anderson singled up the middle. DJ Gunderson (Santa Barbara City College) pitched the eighth inning. He gave up five hits, four runs, and three earned runs. The Rattlers turned a double play in the bottom of the eighth inning. The MLB Academy Barons scored four runs off of five hits and two errors.
