THE RATTLERS PLAYED A GOOD 4TH OF JULY SERIES Joe Etcheverry went 2-for-4 with an RBI San Luis Obispo, CA (July 5, 2010) – The Rattlers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and started off where they left off the night before. The Rattlers were not able to continue it through the rest of the game. The Barons took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. The Rattlers rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning, but came up short. Jimmy Allen (Rancho Buena Vista HS/Cal Poly SLO) singled up the middle to start off the #10 Jimmy Allen went 2-for-5 with a run bottom of the first inning. Nigel Morton (Southwest Baptist) singled down the left field line. Joe Etcheverry (Northern Illinois University) doubled down the left field line with one out scoring Jimmy Allen. That gave the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead. The MLB Academy Barons loaded the bases with two out in the top of the second inning, but Rattlers’ pitcher Jeremy Gonzales (Northern Illinois University) was able to get out of the jam. He went four and two thirds innings, gave up seven hits, three runs, two earned runs, and struck out six. Brandon Lee (Cornell University) singled to left field to start off the bottom of the second inning, but the Rattlers were not able to move him over. The Barons got three runs off of five hits in the top of the fifth inning. That gave the Barons a 3-1 lead. Rattlers pitcher DJ Gunderson (Santa Barbara City College) came in the inning with two outs and got the final out. He pitched two and a third innings, gave up two hits, and struck out three. Jimmy Allen singled to right field, but was out trying to turn it into a double in the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, third baseman Jimmy Allen turned double play getting the runners out at third and second base. Nigel Morton singled to start off the sixth inning. Zach Steele (Cuesta College) reached on a fielder’s choice. Then Joe Etcheverry singled to left center. The Rattlers were not able score a run the inning.


In the bottom of the eighth inning with one out, Nigel Morton singled up the middle. The Barons scored another run in the top of the ninth inning off of zero hits and one error. Michael Nielebeck (Cuesta College) pitched the eighth and ninth innings. He gave up one unearned run and struck out one. Bobby Buckner (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) reached first on an error with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Robert Vickers (College of the Canyons) singled to left field. Davey Schultz (Cuesta College) doubled to down the right field line with two out scoring Bobby Buckner. That was Davey Schultz’s first double of the season.
