THE SAN LUIS OBISPO RATTLER’S WIN THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON The Rattlers pitching combined for eight shutout innings. San Luis Obispo, CA (June 1, 2010) – The SLO Rattlers won their first game of the season 11-1 over the Cal Poly Club Team Baseball. Nigel Morton was the first base runner of the season with a one out walk in the first inning and then stole second. Joe Etcheverry got the first hit and a RBI of the season with a double. In the second inning Brandon Lee walked and Matt Anderson doubled to move Brandon Lee to third. The first run of the inning scored on Robert Vickers walk and a passed ball. The Rattlers scored two more runs in the inning. Kirk Fridrich got the first start of the season for the Rattlers. He went two innings with two strikeouts. Daniel Howell had a great play to end the top of the second inning In the third inning Cal Poly Club had a one out double and a groundout to move the runner to third, but David Murillo got out of the inning with a strikeout. That was one of his 4 strikeouts in two innings of work.

Joe Etcheverry went 2-3 with a run and a RBI

The Rattlers added two runs with singles from Joe Etcheverry, Brandon Lee, and Matt Anderson. David Schultz had sac fly scoring Brandon Lee, bringing the score to 6-0. In the sixth inning Cal Poly Club threatened again with a single and a one out stolen base. Mike Massari was able to get out of the inning with two strikeouts. He had a team leading six strikeouts for the night and was the winning pitcher. Michael Nielbeck and DJ Gunderson both had one strikeout to add to the team total of 14 strikeouts in their first game of the season. In the bottom of the seventh inning Kyle Wise came in as a pinch hitter and got his first hit of the season. The Rattlers got five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead 11-0. Zach Steele walked to start the inning. Then Chris Lauritzen hit into a fielder’s choice. Thomas White was hit by a pitch and moved Chris Lauritzen to second. Chris Lauritzen then stole third. Justin Crumpley then hit a double to score Chris Lauritzen and Thomas White. TJ Fillcia and Brandon Lee both had walks in the inning. There was also a passed ball and an error to score the runs.
