THE SLO RATTLERS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER Bobby Buckner and David Schultz both hit their first triples of the season

Nevada (June 13, 2010) – The SLO Rattlers split the doubleheader against Team Vegas Baseball Club Sunday. The Rattlers won the first game 51 and lost the second game 9-5. The Rattlers are 5-4 overall and 2-4 in league play The Rattlers had one double, two triples, and one home run and talied 14 hits in the two games. Bobby Buckner went 3-for-8 with one RBI. Game One: SLO Rattlers 5, Team Vegas Baseball Club 1 Vegas Baseball took an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Pitcher Richie Mirowski went two and a third innings giving up the only run of the game and striking out two.

In the top of the third inning, the Rattlers bats came alive. Kyle Wise walked with one out. David Schultz reached on an error. Then Bobby Buckner doubled scoring Kyle Wise. David Schultz was out at home and Bobby Buckner advanced to third on the throw. Thomas White was hit by a pitch. Scott Phillion singled scoring Bobby Buckner. Daniel Howell hit a three run home run to left field. It is his second home run of the season. Nigel Morton also singled. In the bottom of the inning Team Vegas threatened with the bases loaded, but Rattlers pitching shut them down. The Rattlers got a fielder’s choice out at home and two strikeouts. Pitcher Chad Caraccioli came with one out and went two and two thirds innings striking out three and did not give up a hit. He also got the win for the Rattlers. Matt Anderson singled to start the top of the fourth inning. Nigel Morton made a great unassisted double play to end the bottom of the fourth inning. In the sixth inning Robert Vickers reached first base on an error. Kyle Wise walked with two out and then Robert Vickers stole third base. Team Vegas threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning with the bases loaded and one out, but pitcher Todd Simko got out of the inning with two strikeouts.


Pitcher Marc Damon came in for the seventh inning and got the first save of the season for the Rattlers. Game Two: Team Vegas Baseball Club 9, SLO Rattlers 5 The Rattlers scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Matt Anderson walked and Gabe Loweree reached on a fielder’s choice. Scott Phillion singled and Joe Etcheverry singled scoring Gabe Loweree. Nigel Morton singled scoring Scott Phillion. Team Vegas tied up the game in the bottom of the first inning. Nigel Morton started a great double play to end the inning. Kirk Fridrich got the start for the Rattlers and went three innings giving up seven runs. Bobby Buckner tripled down the right field line in the top of the second inning. It was his first triple of the season. In the top of the third inning David Schultz tripled down the right field line. Matt Anderson walked. David Schultz scored on a wild pitch. Gabe Loweree walked, but that was all the Rattlers were able to do in the third inning. The Vegas Baseball Club took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning. They scored three more in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Rattlers pitching kept the Team Vegas from scoring the rest of the game, but that was not enough for the win. Chris Lauritzen walked and stole second in the fifth inning. Pitcher Trevor Elswick came in the sixth inning and went two innings and striking out four batters. In the eighth inning David Schultz reached on an error and Matt Anderson singled. Chris Hoo got his first at bat of the season and singled scoring David Schultz. Scott Phillion had a sacrifice fly scoring Matt Anderson. That was all the Rattlers were able to threaten. Alex Sammons pitched the eighth inning and did not give up a hit. ###
