THE RATTLERS BATTLED BUT LOST TO THE PACKERS Matt Anderson went 2-for-2 with 2 runs and a RBI San Luis Obispo, CA (June 19, 2010) – Saturday night’s baseball game saw several lead changes. The Rattlers were not able to hold the lead in the top of the ninth. They lost 12-8. The Rattlers are 8-5 on the season and 2-5 in conference. The Santa Maria Valley Packers took an early 1-0 in the top of the second inning. Davey Schultz singled to start the bottom of the first inning and then Nigel Morton singled. Davey Schultz advanced to third on Bobby Buckner’s fly out. Nigel Morton stole second with two out.

Matt Anderson went 2-for-2 on the night

The Packers scored two more runs in the second inning. Matt Anderson singled with one out and Scott Phillion walked in the second inning. Then Robert Vickers walked to load the bases. David Schultz reached on fielder’s choice scoring Matt Anderson. Nigel Morton reached on an error scoring Scott Phillion. The Rattlers scored two runs making the score 3-2 Packers. Joe Etcheverry singled to the left field with one out and Daniel Howell walked in the third inning. Matt Anderson singled to the right side scoring Joe Etcheverry. Scott Phillion doubled to left center scoring Daniel Howell. Robert Vickers had a sacrifice fly scoring Matt Anderson. The Rattlers led 5-3. The Packers scored a run in the top of the fourth inning. Davey Schultz made a great diving catch in center field for the third out. Starting pitcher Jeremy Gonzales went four innings, striking out four, and giving up four runs. Joe Etcheverry started off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single to right center. Daniel Howell doubled down the left field line, putting runners on second and third. Joe Etcheverry. Scott Phillion singled to right field scoring Daniel Howell, giving the Rattlers a 7-4 lead. The Packers tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the sixth inning with a three run home run. Scott Phillion made diving catch for the second out of the sixth inning. Joe Etcheverry singled to start the bottom of the seventh inning. Jimmy Allen came in to pinch run for him. Daniel Howell singled to left field. The Rattlers were not able to score a run in the inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning Davey Schultz struck out, but was able to reach first base on an error by the catcher. He advanced to second on a passed ball. Bobby Buckner grounded out moving Davey Schultz to third. Chris Hoo reached first base on an error scoring Davey Schultz. The Rattlers took an 8-7 lead but were not able to keep it. The Packers scored a five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Pitcher Todd Simko got the loss. He came in the top of the ninth inning, gave up two runs, and only one was earned.
