THE RATTLERS LOSE IN THE TOP OF THE NINTH Zach Steele went 1-for-3 with a run San Luis Obispo, CA (June 24, 2010) – The Rattlers were tied going into the top of the ninth inning, but they were not able to win or take the game into extra innings. The Blue’s got the winning runs in the top of the ninth inning. Jeremy Gonzales got his fifth start of the season. He went five and two-thirds innings, gave up six hits, four walks, two earned runs, and struck out four. The SLO Blues got their first run in the top of the first inning off of two hits and no errors. Davey Schultz went 3-for-4 with a run Right fielder Kyle Wise (Southwest Baptist) made a great shoe top catch for the first out of the second inning. Shortstop Nigel Morton (Southwest Baptist) made a great pop up catch for the third out in the top of the third inning. Third baseman Robert Vickers (College of the Canyons) made a great play to end the fourth inning. He also got the second out of the inning. Davey Schultz (Cuesta College) singled to center field to start off the bottom of the fourth inning. Jimmy Allen (Rancho Buena Vista HS/Cal Poly SLO) bunted Davey Schultz to second. Then Tommy White (Santa Barbara City College) flied out to the warning track in left field moving Davey Schultz to third. The Rattlers were not able to score in the inning. Another run was scored by the Blues in the top of the sixth inning off of two hits and no errors. Pitcher Mike Massari (University of Redlands) came in the sixth inning with two outs. He pitched two and a third innings, gave up one hit, and struck out two. Zach Steele (Cuesta College) singled up the middle with one out in the sixth inning. Davey Schultz singled up the middle and then Jimmy Allen walked to load the bases. With two out, Joe Etcheverry


(Northern Illinois University) singled up the middle scoring Zach Steele and Davey Schultz. That tied the score at 2-2. Joe Etcheverry went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Davey Schultz singled and advanced to second on an error with one out. Then a groundout moved him to third. The Rattlers were not able to muster a run in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth inning, the Blues scored four runs. They had four hits and the Rattlers did not commit an error in the inning. Closer Marc Damon (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) came in the ninth inning and was not able to get the save. He got the loss. Marc Damon is 1-1 on the season. Joe Etcheverry walked to start off the bottom of the ninth inning.
