SLO RATTLERS WIN CCL OPENER Joe Etcheverry hit a bases clearing double in the second inning San Luis Obispo, CA (June 4, 2010) – The SLO Rattlers won their California Colligate League opener 11-0. They had four pitchers that combined for nine innings of shutout work. Jeremy Gonzales got his second start of the season in three days. He pitched five scoreless innings, giving up four hits, and striking out five. David Schultz started off the first inning with a single and then TJ Filicia sacrificed him over to second. Thomas White doubled David Schultz in. Then Scott Phillion doubled scoring Thomas White. To start off the bottom of the second inning Kyle Wise singled. David Schultz singled with one out. Then Thomas White singled with two out to load the bases. Scott Phillion walked to bring in the first run of the inning. The next batter up, Joe Etcheverry, hit a bases clearing double. In the top of the third inning with one out a Conejo batter singled. Then Jeremy Gonzales struck out the batter for the second out and Brandon Lee threw out the runner trying to steal second to end the inning. The top of the fourth inning the Conejo Oaks had runners at first and second with two out and Jeremy Gonzales got the next batter to strikeout to end the inning

Jeremy Gonzales got the same thing to happen in the top of the fifth inning. With two runners on and two out he got the next batter to strikeout. In the bottom of the sixth inning Robert Vickers doubled and advanced to third base on an error. Mike Massari got all three batters out in the seventh inning. He had three strikeouts in the game. Scott Phillion singled to start off the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Etcheverry reached on an error. The next batter up, Daniel Howell, doubled to bring in both runners. He advanced to third on Brandon Lee’s fly out and scored on Kyle Wise’s groundout. Todd Simko came in the eighth inning and got all three batters to go down in order. He had two strike outs in the game.


The Rattlers scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the top of the ninth inning, Marc Damon got all three batters out, including striking out one. The Rattlers are 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in CCL play. ###
