Three Reedley College players make the Fall All-Star Baseball Showcase Cherie Smith Sports Editor The California Community College Baseball Coaches Association North 22nd Fall All-Star Showcase was on Sunday, October 7 at American River College. Reedley College had three sophomores that played in it: Jonathan Rodriguez, Mike Hostetler, and Laz Villa. Reedley College’s Jonathan Rodriguez, Mike Hostetler, and Laz Villa made the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association North 22nd Fall All-Star Showcase at American River College in Sacramento on Sunday, October 7, 2012.

Rodriguez played on the gray team in the 13-16 innings as an outfielder. Last spring he played in 34 games as the second baseman, 152 at bats, 29 runs, 52 hits, seven doubles, two triples, 15 RBIs, six walks, a sacrifice fly, seven sacrifice hits, 16 strikeouts, five stolen bases, .365 on base percentage, .414 slugging, and a .342 batting average. Rodriguez made the 2012 Central Valley Conference as first team infielder. Hostetler was playing on the blue team in the 9-12 innings as a third baseman. Last spring he played in 36 games as the third baseman, 140 at bats, 23 runs, 43 hits, six doubles, a triple, 18 RBIs, 21 walks, four hit by pitches, three sacrifice flies, four sacrifice hits, 19 strikeouts, five stolen bases, .405 on base percentage, .364 slugging, and a .307 batting average. Hostetler made the 2012 Central Valley Conference as first team infielder. Villa played on the blue team in the 9-12 innings as an outfielder. Last spring he played in 36 games as the center fielder, 143 at bats, 31 runs, 52 hits, eight doubles, two triples, 27 RBIs, 30 walks, a sacrifice fly, 16 strikeouts, eight stolen bases, .471 on base percentage, .448 slugging, and a .364 batting average. Villa made the 2012 Central Valley Conference as first team outfielder. Reedley College’s head baseball coach Steve Pearse said, “The three players (Hostetler, Villa and Rodriguez) all were All-Conference players last year that were selected to play in the Fall All Star game. They will represent Reedley College well.” Reedley College’s Baseball season will start February 2013.
