PROFESSION GAP IN CYPRUS’S MIGRATION TREND Immigration has long played a dramatic role in shaping the demographics of modern Cyprus. In the past two decades, more than 50% of cypriot student tends to study abroad. The inward immigration flow has not been decreasing for jobs, investment, and refuge. For these immigrants, more than 62% work in sevice sector in Cyprus. When young cypriot professionals chose to leave and the new young immigrants can’t make up the gap, the current trend shows that Young people of all types are faced with a lack of professional’s opportunities that may lead to a thriving and diverse cultural identity.

Playground Reform In Taipei, playgrounds have been fully standardized for decades. Rigid, unchallenging facilities have been compromising children's creativity and their ability to explore and play. Civic groups, landscape architects, and the Taipei government have been working together to reform playground designs; Hua-shan Express was one of the projects.
Hua-shan park (Phase 6)
The development of Hua-shan Express is tied to the history of Hua-shan park ─ it was the Huashan freight station from 1937-1986. A playground that tells a local story is the first of its kind in Taipei city.

The design process had involved roles including designer, client, maintainer and the interested civic group. The collaborative process successfully helps to mediate concerns of each role. As a result, the client was convinced to take a chance on a more experimental approach such as raising the floor height and replacing the rubber mats with the loose gravel pavement, giving the designer more room for creativity in the final design.

Texture, Color, Space The design brings together a variety of textures using simple construction methods and natural materials such as terrazzo, pebble washed, wood board, stainless steel, and gravel. This creates a multitude of sensorial experiences for those playing in the space. Natural materials are used to form a harmonious connection with the surrounding environment. The simple tone contrasts with both the dynamic texturing of materials and the multidimentionality of the space.

04 Chinatown Crossroads Toward the pedestrian & natural capital- driven urban design Pedestrian x Open space
academic & individual work design 02.2020-05.2019 Chicago, Illinois
This project aims to transit the dominance over the site from cars to pedestrians employing two fundamental “Game Changers” opportunities-- the existing parking lots and roadway intersections. The project transforms these into a series of public spaces that unified the highly vibrant CTA “L” metro station, the new Chinatown public library, and the old Chinatown district blocks as a whole and further support the greater Chinatown neighborhood to Ping Tom Park.

A stage for place identity The oval shape forms a stage for the landing visitors from Metro station and further highlights the dynamic pedestrian flows that have been keeping the community tight and prosperous in Chinatown and thus showing the place identity in the most authentic and blunt way.
Reverse the priority of infrastructure The design reverses the priority of crossroads from cars to pedestrians by using permeable pavement to re-define the boundary between roads and blocks while also unify the surrounding open spaces, and thus create a “plaza experience to enhance the location of road and intersection crossings.
05 A Conversation With Snapping Shrimp Coastal soundscape restoration design Animal x Humans
academic & individual competition work design 09.2020- in process Singapore
“A conversation with snapping shrimp” presents an exchange through sound between humans and one of the smallest, but loudest marine animal – Snapping shrimp. An effective conversation requires either end to quiet down, to listen, and torespond. However, anthropogenic noise and the increasingly acidic marine environment from carbon dioxide have disrupted the conversations between even the loudest marine siren—the snapping shrimp--with other marine animals and severly damaged the shallow costal habitat.
“A conversation with snapping shrimp” is a sea coast salon that creates niches for both snapping shrimp and humans. It asks humans to “speak air” through an air tube to activate “bubble curtains” which slow down sound waves under the water, quiet down the coastalurban and industrial noise, and allow the snapping shrimp to snap and to be heard. While humans are quieting themselves down and focusing on blowing air (speaking air), they can visually and sonically receive messages from the snapping shrimp in locations and sound levels from the oyster screen.
Using restored coral reefs to provide snapping shrimp a safe habitat to stay while they mitigate through the acidic water. The “oyster screen” is a combination of vertical oyster reefs and a screen sensor that translates the sound spectrum from anthropogenic sources, mixed with snapping shrimp to display sound levels into colors. Humans can also receive sonic messages through a live radio channel. This conversation gives humans the ability to participate and cocreate with this vital marine species “listening”, “seeing”, and ”reciprocating” in their world.

Participatory city planning Post-Agricultural City
assistant project manager 07.2014 - 07.2015 93.72 sq.km
Douliou city was the main entrance and administration center of Yunlin county— Taiwan’s primary agricultural region since 1900. In 2015, a highspeed rail station was built at the adjacent town. In turn, Douliou no longer operates as the region’s predominant traffic or political hub. We now have the chance to involve the community and re-envision the city’s functions collectively.

Douliu city as if a showcase of the changing landscapes, from the city to farm fields to mountain forests all within a 20 minutes trip. This provides great conditions for visitors to experience diverse processes of agricultural production. To highlight this unique characteristic of Douliu city, we planned a tour route with experiential programs and bike lanes. It connects two train stations in Douliu and five villages to the east.

A"Desire Path" This Sidewalk design was inspired by the existing "desire path" where most of the students park their cars at the other side of the road and walk across the lawn as a shortcut to the building. The project tried to create a path by using the subtle grading but fit for the ADA standard. It aims to create a tranquil pathway which is more than just a shortcut or sidewalk.
