Get in the Holiday Spirit! Christmas Tree Sales

Starting Sat. Nov. 30, the Shady Side Community Center will be selling Christmas Trees at the corner of DealeChurchton Road and Shady Side Road across from Christopher's Fine Foods. Offerings include Scotch Pine for only $30.00, Douglas Firs starting at $35.00 and Fresh Wreaths starting at $15.00. The sales lot will be open Mon. – Fri. from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sat. and Sun. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds support community events, the building fund and local charitable donations. Youth Holiday Concert

The Southern Maryland Youth Choir (SMYChoir) will have its inaugural concert, “All is Calm, All is Bright!” a program of seasonal choral music. The performance will be Thurs., Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at Hollywood United Methodist Church. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12; children under 5 are free. Tickets will be available at the door. The choir will be performing a number of festive carols and traditional works, including a choral version of Silent Night arranged by Mary Val Marsh, Shalom Chaverim, an Israeli folk song, and several arrangements from the movie Frozen.

Wreath-Making Workshop

Join in on American Chestnut Land Trust's preparations for the annual Greens Sale on Fri., Dec. 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Warrior's Rest Sanctuary. Learn to create and decorate holiday wreaths. You can choose to join for free, and donate all of your handmade wreaths to the Greens Sale, or you can pay $25 for materials, make at least two wreaths, and take one home with you. Winter Festival

Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Church St., Prince Frederick, will host its 50th Annual Winter Festival on Sat. Dec. 6 from 12-6 p.m. Ham & Oyster Dinner - adults $19; children 12 and under $10; children 6 and under free. Holiday Highlights

The 15th Annual Holiday Highlights judging for decorations in the Town of North Beach will be held on Sun., Dec. 14, after 6 p.m. Decorate your home or business for the holidays for your chance to win! There will be TWO categories. The first category is houses, apartments and townhouses. The second category is businesses. Merry Tuba Christmas

On Sat., Dec. 20, join conductor J. Ernest Green for the first TubaChristmas to be held in Annapolis. The outdoor performance (weather permitting) will be from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. at St. Anne's Church on Church Circle in Annapolis. If raining, heavy snow, or temperature below 38 degrees, the performance will be indoors at the same address. Merry Christmas Tuba concerts will be presented in over 275 cities throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. Every holiday season, tuba and euphonium players of all ages gather to pay respect to all the great teachers who represent their heritage. Every performance features traditional Christmas carols especially arranged for a large ensemble of tubas, baritones, euphoniums, and sousaphones. The warm, rich, organ-like sound of the tuba-euphonium choir has won the ears and hearts of every audience. Holiday Photos with a Horse Freedom Hill Horse Rescue (FHHR) will be hosting its third annual Holiday Photos with Horses event on Sat., Dec. 6 at Hampton Plantation in Owings. Four area photographers have generously contributed their time and talents to offer families professional photos at the fraction of the cost of professional fees. Of the proceeds, 100% will help abused, neglected and unwanted horses get the care and medical attention they need to live long, healthy lives. In addition to holiday photos, adults and kids alike can enjoy holiday music and crafts, hot drinks and baked goods, a gift shop, wine tasting by Friday's Creek Winery, and hand-guided horse rides. Information sessions for those interested in learning more about horse

rescue or how to volunteer will be offered throughout the day. Participants who register for a specific time and pre-pay online (photoswithhorses.eventbrite.com) will save up to $10.00 per photo package, receive complimentary hot drinks at the event, and have a chance to receive the photo(s) for free. Freedom Hill Horse Rescue volunteers work year-round to save the lives of unwanted horses from abuse, neglect, abandonment, and slaughter. A team of extraordinary volunteers and dedicated supporters have made it possible to rehabilitate and find loving homes for over 200 horses. Sign up today! Only 60 photo sessions will be scheduled. Freedom Hill Horse Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of horses by providing a safe haven for healing and rehabilitation, and educating others about horses, horsemanship, and the proper care of horses. Enjoy “Winter Wonders” Concert Patuxent Voices, an all-female a cappella group, will perform “Winter Wonders,” a selection of holiday music to celebrate this most special season. Performances are Fri., Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at All Saints Church, Sunderland; Sat., Dec. 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ Church, Chaptico; Sun., Dec. 14 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Church, St. Mary’s College; and Tues., Dec. 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Calvert Pines Senior Center in Prince Frederick. Performances are free, but donations are welcome.

“Winter Wonders” touches on many of the magical aspects of this holiday season, from the wonder expressed in “O Magnum Mysterium” at the birth of the Christ child to a desire to “Let It Snow” to those quirky Christmas wishes like “I Want Crabs for Christmas!” There is something special for every listener in the hour-long program. It’s a great way to put your whole family in the Christmas spirit! During the holiday season, they will perform at the Calvert Marine Museum for the Solomons Christmas Walk on Fri., Dec. 5 at 7:00 and at Sotterley Plantation for Christmas Traditions by Candlelight on Fri., Dec. 19 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. This season Patuxent Voices is directed by Iain Sturrock, who will conduct several selections in the concert as well as provide percussion. The 12 members of Patuxent Voices come from Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties. In addition to giving two sets of concerts annually, one at Christmas and one in the spring, Patuxent Voices can be seen at a variety of community events.
