ABOUT ME CHETNA SIDHU
I am an urban planner and architect with a deep-seated passion for creating cities that thrive on connectivity and mobility. My vision is centered around designing urban spaces that promote seamless movement and foster strong community ties, through well-planned streetscapes, efficient urban transit systems, and accessible public spaces.
At the heart of my work lies the belief that the way people move within and interact with their environment fundamentally shapes their experience of the city. By focusing on sustainable, inclusive mobility solutions, I aim to enhance urban livability, ensuring that cities not only accommodate but also enrich the lives of their inhabitants.
Driven by a commitment to innovation and social equity, my approach integrates advanced urban design principles with a focus on pedestrianfriendly pathways, cycle networks, and public transit systems that are environmentally sustainable and economically viable. I advocate for planning strategies that bridge gaps—physically, socially, and economically—creating a cohesive urban fabric that supports vibrant, dynamic communities.

BANFF TRAIL NEIGHBOURHOOD STUDY
PROJECT BRIEF
As Banff Trail experiences rapid densification and growth, the Banff Trail Neighborhood Study will focus on aligning existing amenities with this expansion through a detailed study. A focused vision and strategic design plan will be created from the analysis, which will ensure that new developments are implemented in ways which maximize community benefit, and align with the stated goals and objectives of the community association. This will also include community workshop and engagements sessions with community residents and interest groups.
PROJECT BRIEF
Future-proof wants the CMRB to be the most vibrant region in the world and focused on creating a policy for that. One of the most intriguing challenge faced was to define ‘vibrancy’ in urban planning. It’s a concept often overlooked yet crucial for creating lively, engaging communities. This highlighted the need for urban spaces that inspire, connect, and energize their inhabitants. Leading to the identification of key quality-of-life areas to develop comprehensive policies for a future that emphasizes vibrant communities, clean water, and connected mobility.

PROJECT BRIEF
Stitch collective is a passionate group of Master of Planning Year 2 students from SAPL who share a dream: to transform Calgary’s public spaces. Through a lens of urbanism, we advocate for spaces that resonate with the city’s heartbeat, fostering connections and sparking joy. As part of our mission to enliven Calgary’s downtown, we teamed up with 4 downtown businesses to help promote them to students. STUDENT CULTURE CAMPAIGN brings you the best of downtown Calgary, all conveniently located along the LRT train lines! There is also a survey on it to help capture some important questions relating to students in downtown.
PROJECT BRIEF
Art-scape is a unique approach to Downtown West-end that aims to transform its urban landscape by seamlessly integrating art and nature to create a vibrant and inclusive connection to the Plus 15 network. The vision encompasses a distinguished district prioritizing innovation and creative education while fostering a developing and innovative synergy. This vibrant hub will attract the dynamic youth population that downtown Calgary needs, contributing to the densification and vitality of the area. The project also looked into how the existing Plus-15 network could be improved and activated.
PROJECT BRIEF
The spine is a forward thinking innovation district centered around the innovation and space industry. The spine supports three pillars: space, innovation and experience A catalyst for the improvement of the city’s citizens, this dynamic mixed-use development produces a vibrant, diversified, and integrated community that is indicative of charleston’s expanding innovation industry. The driving factor behind this development is the need for the state to have a permanent NASA facility in the future. With a mission-driven, mixed-use scheme that promotes positive social and economic reform for north charleston, the spine’s ambitious proposal turns the region into a magnet for space innovation.
PROJECT BRIEF
“The living village” is an ambitious and innovative redevelopment proposal focused on transforming the shaganappi/Westbrook area, focusing on sustainable urban living. It blends biophilic design with a community-centric approach, enhancing connectivity and walkability. The project emphasizes ecological sustainability, including permaculture and community gardens, while respecting the area’s cultural and historical significance. A street-car network is introduced to connect people throughout the site with the possibility of connections extending to outside the site too. It aims to create a diverse, adaptive infrastructure, fostering a modern community that harmonizes with nature and its historical roots.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
PROJECT BRIEF
The aim of the project is to what are the qualities of ‘good streets’ in Calgary? What is missing from the places that are not ‘good? How do these streets help to define Calgary’s sense of place? The area of study is the 1st street. 1st Street SW - Calgary is situated between the Bow & Elbow rivers, passing through downtown. It was originally known as scarth street before the city of Calgary converted the names to numbers in 1904. Through our analysis of the street and its surroundings, we found that it is generally a good street with a few negative points.
