Chetu Foundation Increases Social Awareness About Latest Traffic
Introduction India is a large country with a sizeable population. This can create very congested roadways where following traffic rules becomes important. Unfortunately, India has the highest number of vehicle accidents globally. Many of these accidents are due to a poor understanding of traffic laws or a disregard for them. The penalty for disobeying the latest traffic rules has increased to bring down the number of traffic incidents. To help educate drivers about the new penalty, authorities have begun creating awareness. For example, in Jammu, the Police stood along major intersections in the city and handed out traffic law pamphlets.
Most Important Traffic Rules in India While there are many traffic rules that India's drivers need to be aware of, some are more vital to preventing injury or death. Failure to follow these rules has resulted in the country's staggering accident rates. Here are some of the most important traffic rules in India organizations want to highlight:
No drinking and driving
Have valid insurance
Seatbelts are required
Motorcyclists require helmets
No using a phone during vehicle operation
No speeding
Stop for red lights at intersections
Cont… There are other road safety rules that India's drivers should follow as well. These include reminders to stay on the left side of the road. Several rules involve passing other vehicles and how drivers should not pass other cars at blind corners. If another driver is attempting to pass, do not accelerate but allow them to pass in front safely. Other rules speak to the importance of being careful at intersections, giving pedestrians the right of way at crosswalks, and getting out of the way of emergency vehicles. Also, indicator lights must work and notify other drivers of lane changes or turns.
Teach Kids Road Safety Rules with Fun Activities
One of India's best roadway safety methods is educating children about road rules. It isn't easy to keep children interested in traffic safety learning. However, there are fun and interesting ways to help kids learn how to be safer on India's roadways. To help children identify traffic signs, parents can create games that incorporate the signs. Fun games such as making the pose in the sign and guessing which one. These types of activities can help kids associate the signs with greater meaning. Another method of teaching road safety rules to kids is to create an educational short film. The children will enjoy being a part of the project and seeing themselves on screen. During filming, the kids learn about important traffic rules to incorporate when they reach driving age.
Traffic Rules Awareness and the Chetu Foundation
India's roadway's have become a dangerous place for motorists and pedestrians. However, a campaign for greater awareness of road safety is underway. Increased penalties for violations are in place, but authorities have made efforts to educate drivers with pamphlets and programs. Organizations have also begun educating children on the road rules and how they can help make India safer. Organizations such as the Chetu Foundation, Jagriti Leela Memorial Foundation, and Noida Traffic Police have organized a motorbike rally. This rally seeks to increase traffic law awareness to provide safer roads and reduce congestion. Held November 26th, 2020, the rally garnered large participation from the area's youth.
