KUBLIHAN PROJECT YEAR: 2014
the kublihan is a quadruplex transition shelter for calamity victims, a project in tribute to typhoon haiyan of 2013 that left many filipons homeless. the project required the use of marine plywood as the main building material in accordance a side competition entitled “Building with PF Plywood and LVL”. usin a moden day adaptation of the bahay kubo as using its concept, the aim was to allow the calamity victims to reconnect with their filipino roots as well as serve as a reminder of how durable and strong our national housing unit has proven to be during calamities and through out time.

COMMUNE PROJECT YEAR: 2015 the commune is a mixed use multi-level carpark facility situated in the heart of bonifacio global city, the facility aims to cater surrounding office buildings and also provide a place of security and rest for drivers and citizens within the area. inspi inspired by the movement of the philippine flag, making use of its soft flow to give it a sense of calmness whilst also exuding strength and firmness through time. given the use of the structure, natural light and ventilation is of prime consideration.

the indigenous craftwork museum is a component of the cultural center of the philippines (CCP) development. a museum dedicated to the different crafts of the indigenous peoples within the philippines wherein the general public have the oppor tunity to gain knowledge and information, as well as learn ďŹ rst hand from the different workshops and activities provided by the museum. wit the goal of allowing indigenous craftwork to stay with relevant while being conscious of cultural appropriation, the concept of interweaving concrete vernacularism is taken to serve as a reminder that this art form can be taken into the modern-day setting for cultural continuation through representation of concrete and natural materials and forms.

SITE DEVELOPMENT PLAN Adjacent to the cultural center of the philippines (CCP), the museum also features a raised drop off leading the the main public building- kasa kumpulan. This building features the museum auditorium, in-house restaurant & shop, temporary exhibit spaces, and the museum workshops & studios.

The lower ground floor is dedicated to parking and open spaces. Visitors are free to roam around and relax when the spaces aren’t used for museum activities. Throughout the year, activities such as festivals, demonstrations, and performances occur in these areas.
Access to the indigenous hanging gardens is also through this area, wherein the general public can view and learn about the purest forms of the craftwork shown within the museum.

The third floor is where the permanent and temporary exhibits are found. Permanent exhibits are categorized according to type of material used in indigenous craftwork, and are arranged in a timeline. the permanent exhibits showcase
crafs falling under the following categories: woodcarving, ceramics, basketry, textile, metalcraft, and jewelry, respectively. As for temporary exhibits, indigenous groups that are not a par t of the permanent exhibits are given this area as their platform which changes throughout the year.

The exterior facade features a combination of brutalist and modern architecture. To soften the hard and masculine characteristic of the all-concrete facade, the use of bamboo and other natural features give the structure a softer touch.
The substraction from the solid forms allow for openings of natural sunlight and ventilation, to allow the outside to be a par t of the inside as well.

The museum aims to allow its visitors to make use of all their senses in order to get a memorable experience. The use of various lights, shadows, and openings allow for a more emotional approach, therefore allowing visitors to lead to a state of awareness.

as a par t of the indigenous craftwork museum project, the lobby highlights a circular balcony that overlooks the entire space- the balcony is made to be used as an introductory exhibit space while looking over a circularperformance space. its tall columns are ďŹ nished with a stone like material that have growth rings, like of wood, embedded on them. th entire space is characterized by clean lines and a the bright and neutral environment.

as a par t of the indigenous craftwork museum project, the exhbit leans toward a more modern/brutalistic approach. its ceiling are made up of led ceiling panels to give a uniform amound of light all through out the room. i n contrast to its concrete walls and flooring, the furniture chosen for the space are easily characterized by soft, vibrant, and cozy pieces that feature traditional patterns.

found in the astana exposition of 2017, siglo is a pavilion that is designed to represent the philippines. the project called for a non-linear pavilion to be located in the city of astana, kazhakstan. the pavilion aimed to mimic natural landscapes that best descibe the philippine aesthetic, therefore making use of the intricate details in terraced landscaping.
