The Sisters of St. Ursula founded Notre Dame School in 1912 when they came to New York from France. The school began in their home and became known as Chez Nous, an affectionate way to refer to the place that has been a second home to generations of young women.

• Accredited

Notre Dame School of Manhattan is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young women, rooted in the spirit of Anne de Xainctonge, founder of the Sisters of St. Ursula. Anne wished to educate girls as the Jesuits educated boys, dedicated toward the development of each student as a whole person; intellectually, socially and spiritually by U.S. News and World Report as one of the “outstanding high schools” in the country by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) by Middle States Association

ND STUDENTS GIVE THEIR TEACHERS HIGH MARKS

As stated in our mission, “The rich cultural, racial and ethnic mosaic of Notre Dame’s community and its urban location enhance global awareness.”

DISCOVERING A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES

With a starting point of New York City, Notre Dame students develop a global perspective. Through coursework, extracurricular activities and special programs, students expand their awareness of the world we share.

We know what you’re thinking. You’re not even in high school, and we’re talking about college! That’s fine and you have plenty of time, but it is wise to think about the finish line and check out a high school’s track record of success in college placement. Notre Dame hasa long and proud reputation of placing all of its graduates in fantastic four-year colleges and universities. Nearly 90% of our graduates merit academic scholarships to college each year totaling in the millions.

THE ND GRADUATE AT GRADUATION

A Notre Dame graduate is a college-bound woman who demonstrates the intellectual curiosity and self-confidence necessary to face academic, as well as individual challenges. She experiences growth in scholarship and knowledge, faith and values, service and leadership, community and diversity. Our school counselors ensure the healthy development of every student.

LEADERSHIP IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF GROWTH

Catching the spirit with our Chez Nous sisters

As a Catholic school that welcomes students of all faiths, Notre Dame offers curricular and extracurricular activities rooted in Ignatian Spirituality, including retreats for all grade levels, monthly liturgies and service initiatives.

Each month, Anne’s Leaders, juniors and seniors who are part of our leadership program, lead the younger students in small group activities to strengthen their appreciation for our values to increase the Chez Nous spirit in our school.

Diversity and inclusion have always importantbeen ONGOING COMMITMENT

Notre Dame has a longstanding commitment to developing awareness among its faculty and staff as well as providing diversity training where they can discuss social justice issues that affect our students’ lives.

As its mission attests, Notre Dame School of Manhattan has been graced with a beautifully diverse student population practically from its founding. Students and families enjoy and benefit from the gift of diversity every day, as longlasting friendships form Chez Nous among young people who might not otherwise have crossed paths. Our students hail from different races, ethnicities, faith traditions, neighborhoods, and socio-economic backgrounds. We have coined the term DEIG (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and the Gospel) to reflect how our identity as a Catholic school, especially, draws us to this purpose. There is work to do, and we are engaged in that work consistently, with purpose, joy, and prayer.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

Notre Dame students have been voices for change at several listening sessions, held with the school’s administrative team, along with club moderators. Curricular and policy changes have been made after these important sessions.

New York City is our classroom. The school integrates classic classroom learning with unmatched educational opportunities in culture, arts, science and technology.
