Chez Nous
Notre Dame School of Manhattan
High academic standards in a school that feels like home Notre Dame School of Manhattan is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young women, rooted in the spirit of Anne de Xainctonge, founder of the Sisters of St. Ursula. Anne wished to educate girls as the Jesuits educated boys, dedicated toward the development of each student as a whole person; intellectually, socially and spiritually • Recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the “outstanding high schools” in the country • Accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) • Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
CHEZ NOUS IS FRENCH FOR OUR HOME The Sisters of St. Ursula founded Notre Dame School in 1912 when they came to New York from France. The school began in their home and became known as Chez Nous, an affectionate way to refer to the place that has been a second home to generations of young women.
ND STUDENTS GIVE THEIR TEACHERS HIGH MARKS Some things we have heard from our students: “My teachers are available and approachable!” “What I like best about Notre Dame is the community and the teachers.” “ND is a small school, all the teachers know me and want me to succeed.”
DISCOVERING A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES With a starting point of New York City, Notre Dame students develop a global perspective. Through coursework, extracurricular activities and special programs, students expand their awareness of the world we share. As stated in our mission, “The rich cultural, racial and ethnic mosaic of Notre Dame’s community and its urban location enhance global awareness.”
100% of graduates go on to 4-year colleges and universities We know what you’re thinking. You’re not even in high school, and we’re talking about college! That’s fine and you have plenty of time, but it is wise to think about the finish line and check out a high school’s track record of success in college placement. Notre Dame has a long and proud reputation of placing all of its graduates in fantastic four-year colleges and universities. Nearly 90% of our graduates merit academic scholarships to college each year totaling in the millions.
THE ND GRADUATE AT GRADUATION A Notre Dame graduate is a college-bound woman who demonstrates the intellectual curiosity and self-confidence necessary to face academic, as well as individual challenges. She experiences growth in scholarship and knowledge, faith and values, service and leadership, community and diversity.
The best of friendships begin here and last a lifetime ND students speak about their friends… may we quote? “I have really grown a strong bond with my Chez Nous sisters.” “I love that we treat one another like family.” “ND is small enough that you’re able to create long-lasting friendships.” And there you have it!
CHEMISTRY DEVELOPS AT 9th GRADE ORIENTATION At Notre Dame, all the elements mix to create a space that’s friendly to friendships. The environment is warm, welcoming and makes you feel at home on the first day.
YOU’LL FIND YOUR NICHE IN NO TIME With nearly 30 clubs and activities plus competitive and club sports, it’s easy to get involved and pursue your interests outside the classroom.
New York City is our classroom. The school integrates classic classroom learning with unmatched educational opportunities in culture, arts, science and technology. You may travel outside the box to The Pearl Theatre, Museum of Natural History, Poet’s House, Google Headquarters, Museum of Math, or right down the block to the Whitney Museum of American Art. It’s a dream location with easy access to multiple bus and subway lines. Our students come from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey.
ND students love to say, “I go to high school in the Village.” We st
