Give Something Back Founded by Mike Hannigan and Sean Marx, Give started with a basic idea—sell business products for less and donate the profits back to the community. Fifteen years and more than $3 million in donations later, over 13,000 customers have chosen Give Something Back (GSB). They have a goal of giving away one hundred million dollars in the next decade. GSB has been recognized for its success as a business and for its philanthropic mission. It was voted as one of the 10 most generous companies in America—and the most generous one in California. GSB has supported Covenant House as a past grantee, chosen by the community and supported by the vision of its founders.

Van Jones

Founder, Ella Baker Center Van Jones is working to combine solutions to America’s two biggest problems: social inequality and environmental destruction. In 1996, Mr. Jones co-founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, headquartered in Oakland, California. The Center promotes positive alternatives to violence and incarceration. Currently, Van Jones is also the most recognizable leader in the Green jobs movement, recently recognized by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Al Gore for his work. Green jobs are intended to create jobs in the growing green sector, especially for youth of color. With Mr. Jones’ leadership, Covenant House California, Ella Baker Center and Art in Action created the Silence the Violence Campaign. This collaboration has helped Covenant House youth become leaders and inspirations in the communities and streets where they once lived.
