For people who love Bullock, 44, there are a couple reasons why this story proves their affections haven’t been squandered. For one
thing, the same woman who wore a Dior gown with grace to the Golden Globes a few months ago and is consistently listed as one of the most powerful females in Hollywood also enjoys riding dirt bikes. And for another, she thinks it’s all fairly hysterical. It’s been a few years since she’s made a movie that reflects that
attitude — and as she’s played so many funny girls, she could do it in her sleep, that was a conscious choice. Her last films, back in 2006 and 2007, saw Bullock cast as a lovelorn doctor in a romantic time warp in The Lake House, the dowdy and brilliant author Harper Lee in Infamous, and a woman who has disturbing visions of her husband’s death in Premonition.
But this month, she’s back in comedy mode with The Proposal, starring as a Canadian cougar boss who pops the question to her assistant (Ryan Reynolds) to avoid deportation. If that’s the case, then she should stop making it even more appealing. Three years ago, she opened a homey-chic, ecofriendly restaurant called Bess, and she recently opened a general store/bakery/florist nearby. “You’ll come in and get your baguette and a cup of coffee in the morning in a place where everyone meets, with flowers and antiques. I wanted a place that was communal, like the olden days,” she says. “I want to know the names of everyone — the customers, the people who work there.” Another one of her “jobs,” as Bullock puts it, is owner of a working avocado and citrus ranch outside of San Diego. “If you’re going to serve it, you’ve got to know how to grow it,” she says. “I said, ‘I’m going to make the ranch all organic, selfsustaining. We’re going to drill our own wells!’ I didn’t know anything. To grow organic is hard and expensive. It’s a good lesson.” Fixing dirt bikes, making movies, supervising construction sites, growing avocados — is there anything Sandra Bullock won’t tackle? “A musical. I’m not a singer. People don’t want to see me in a musical. I hate them. Hate them. I do know my limits,” she says with a laugh. “I don’t always heed them, but I know them.”

Tom Hanks hace primer lanzamiento en Tokio El actor lanza la primera bola de un juego de beisbol entre los Gigantes de Yomiuri y los Dragones de Chunichi TOKIO, Japón, mayo. 8, 2009.- Tom Hanks hizo el viernes el primer lanzamiento en un partido de beisbol profesional en Japón. El actor estadounidense, quien se encuentra en Tokio con el director Ron Howard para promocionar su película Angeles y demonios, practicó unos cuantos tiros antes de salir al montículo para lanzar la primera bola de un juego entre los Gigantes de Yomiuri y los Dragones de Chunichi en el Domo de Tokio. Con Howard detrás del plato y el infielder de Yomiuri Hayato Sakamoto al bate, Hanks hizo un tiro que cayó al piso varios metros antes de home y no pudo ser atrapado por Howard. Hanks dijo que fue un honor salir al montículo del estadio de los Gigantes, el equipo más popular de Japón.

l actor se someterá al detector de mentiras para apoyar a Rande Gerber, quien enfrenta una demanda de acoso sexual LOS ÁNGELES, Estados Unidos, mayo. 7, 2009.- El actor estadounidense George Clooney, ganador de un Oscar, está dispuesto a someterse al detector de mentiras en apoyo a su amigo Rande Gerber, esposo de la modelo Cindy Crawford, quien enfrenta una demanda por acoso sexual. El actor aseguró mediante un comunicado: “Estuve con Rande toda la noche, igual que un montón de personas. Todos dirán lo mismo que yo. Esto nunca pasó. Y punto”. Las dos mujeres, quienes interpusieron la denuncia en marzo pasado, aseguraron que trabajaban como camareras en uno de los restaurantes de Gerber, y que al no ceder ante las insinuaciones del magnate y de otros directivos de la empresa fueron despedidas. Indicaron que los hechos ocurrieron en el Moonstone Lounge en San Diego, donde Gerber, quien está casado con Crawford desde hace 11 años, intentó besarlas y tocarlas. “El señor Gerber y el señor Clooney se someterán a un detector de mentiras para probar que las acusaciones son falsas”, señaló un representante del empresario de 47 años. Explicó: “El señor Gerber no cederá a esta extorsión ni siquiera por un dólar, y tomará todas las medidas del caso para limpiar su nombre, incluyendo una demanda de 10 millones de dólares por falsas acusaciones”.
