Chiara Cassar (b.1993, Malta) Based in Malta About Chiara Cassar’s work reflects upon material agency and the significance materials and objects impact in our lives. She questions objects and things that surround us, and often repurposes them into being nonfunctional, leaving the sculptures have a recognisable features of the previous object, but morphed into a “thing-like” or alien object. Trying to provoke the understanding of agency that materials possess in have on our society. Chiara often portrays these objects in serine natural environments to communicate, the alienness, controlling “things” materials have on on humans.

_ Curation Projects The Mother of all Vices, Exhibition ran from: 13th-14th December 2017, 5th Base Gallery, London, UK – 07/11/2017-14/12/2017 A collaborative exhibition by four female artists, taking inspiration from two texts by Mladen Stilinovic and Kazimir Malevic about art and labour, institution and freedom related to the idea that there is no art without laziness; a shared interest between the four participating artists. ALT, Exhibition ran from: 20th-23rd October 2017, The Old Police Station Gallery, London–25/09/2017-23/10/2017 ALT, a group exhibition consisting of 10 emerging artists working with digital media. The exhibition concept discussed human perception of reality and alternative realities taking inspiration from the space of the gallery. This was an old police station which still has all its original features. Exhibition organised and curated by myself, Anqi Zhao and Zilu Wang. #hashtag, Exhibition ran from: 2nd March 2017, MAFA Gallery, London, UK – 15/02/201702/03/2017 #hashtag was an exhibition curated by myself and Nicholas Yue. The MAFA Gallery was converted to a new type of art exhibition format. The show was a series of performances by a group of seven Chelsea College MA Fine Art students and other selected guest artists. The evening combined an interactive live-stream experience on Instagram, inviting the audience to see the show on their phones. The artists aimed to destabilise the current use of the traditional white gallery space by creating a new cyber reality whilst highlighting the ubiquitous preoccupation with our mobile phones and digital devices.
