For this seventh edition of the competition we have partnered with the Graham Foundation and AIA Chicago to highlight the Chicago architecture community’s most promising young talent. 2014 EMERGING VISIONS PORTFOLIO COMPETITION Introduction The Chicago Architectural Club is pleased to announce the 2014 Emerging Visions portfolio competition. This portfolio competition seeks to provide a forum for young designers to be recognized and to share their visions, inventions and ideas. The award promotes significant architectural endeavors by young architects, designers and new practices yet to be acknowledged.

Background and Alumni

To register go to the CAC website [http://chicagoarchitecturalclub.org] follow the payment instructions and send an email to [chicagoarchitecturalclub@gmail.com with the subject heading “2014 Emerging Visions Registration”] with the contact information for the entrant or team leader. Confirmation of the registration will be emailed to the registrant (individual or the team leader). Registration will remain open until the submission due date.

The Emerging Visions portfolio competition was founded by Elva Rubio (CAC President 2002-2003) and Dan Wheeler in 1998 in an effort to draw attention to the significant design contributions of rising talents based in Chicago.

Eligibility Architects and designers that have lived and worked in Chicago or the Chicago-land region (within the state of Illinois), for at least 3 calendar years, are invited to apply. Architectural licensure and registration are not required. Groups or individuals may submit. Entrants must be within 10 years of either an undergraduate or graduate degree. Students that are taking advance studies beyond a first professional degree are eligible to apply.

Submission Rules • Submissions may be built, unbuilt, or theoretical. • No student work completed for any academic programs or degrees will be eligible. • Entrants must submit work done independently; no work done as an employee of a firm, where the entrant is not a principal or iiiipartner, is eligible for submission. • Educators may not include work done in their studios or for their teaching. • If work is done by a sole principal or group composed of eligible partners then the firm name will be listed as winner as well. • If work is done collaboratively by parties (partners or principals) that are not eligible for “Emerging Visions” then a signed iiiiconsent by non-eligible parties must be provided. The eligible party will be named as the sole winner. • There is no restriction on where submitted projects, speculative or built, are located.

Anonymity & Ownership “2014 Emerging Visions” is not an anonymous competition. All material received by the competition organizers becomes their property, including reproduction rights. The intellectual property rights for each submission remain with the author(s) of the submission. The Chicago Architectural Club, Graham Foundation and AIA Chicago all reserve the right to publish, exhibit, or present the work submitted to this competition in any format and in any medium with proper credit to the entrant(s).

A single PDF Portfolio (11” X 17” page size, horizontal format) of not more that 10 pages. The 10 page total includes covers, introductions, 250 word (maximum) written statement, resume/cv and any other appendixes. The following materials should be submitted in the single PDF: • A written statement not to exceed 250 words describing the entrant’s design agenda. • Current resume / Curriculum Vitae • Portfolio of design work For each image, include the title, date and a brief description of the work. The submission is not to exceed 15 megabytes, and is to be emailed to[chicagoarchitecturalclub@gmail.com] with the subject heading “2014 Emerging Visions Submission”. Competition submissions are due at 10pm CST on March 09, 2014. Submissions are electronic and submitted via email only. Upon announcement of the winner, higher resolution images will be requested. Other media (models, videos, DVD’s, etc...) will not be accepted. The Chicago Architectural Club, Graham Foundation and AIA Chicago, all reserve the right to publish any or all submissions in print or online with proper credit to the entrant(s).

Schedule February 10- Competition Launched / Online Registration Opens March 09 - Online submissions are due by 10pm CST March 13 - Public Event at the Graham Foundation (Announcement, Lecture and Jury Round Table) June 26-28 - Exhibit at 2014 AIA National Convention

Award and Events The selected winner will be invited to present their work at the public event at the Graham Foundation on March 13, 2014 and will have their work exhibited at the 2014 AIA National Convention from June 26-28, 2014. The winner’s work will also be featured in a special gallery on the Chicago Architectural Club’s website.
