CHICAGOLAND JEWISH HIGH SCHOOL

High school is when students begin to shape their own destiny. It is a time when new challenges are faced and futures begin to take form.
How does a student know which high school to attend, what decisions to make or which direction to choose? At Chicagoland Jewish High School, our outstanding faculty and staff help students appreciate their own individual strengths and find ways to shine both in and out of the classroom. Our graduates leave with life-long friendships, strong ties to our community and the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to succeed in college and beyond.

CJHS: An Inside CJHS: AN INSIDE LOOK
Step inside the doors of Chicagoland Jewish High School
and discover a vibrant learning community that weaves together the very best of Jewish life and learning with the arts, sciences, mathematics, humanities and athletics.
Morning
At CJHS, the day begins as a community with tefillah (morning prayer)—an egalitarian service led by students. When the bell rings, it’s time for classes to begin. Hallways are filled with the liveliness of students as they prepare to start their day.
Noon
Lunch gives students and faculty the opportunity to connect with one another, catch up on schoolwork, relax or participate in clubs and other activities.
Afternoon
When the final school bell rings, students linger in the hallways, work on homework, relax in our garden, exercise in the fitness center or compete in our state-of-the-art gymnasium or athletic fields.

excellence ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Faculty members use creative and interactive teaching methods
to ignite independent, critical thinking. With smaller classes, teachers provide students with the individual attention they need to succeed. “At CJHS, I learn more than just the subjects in my text books. I learn about the things going on around the world, how they affect me in my life and how they will shape me in the years to come.” – Zach Erlichman, ‘13

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
“This is the only place where my math teacher can explain sigma-notation for ACT prep; tie it in to the sugya I’m learning in Talmud and reference an inside joke between her and the history department in the course of fifteen minutes. Traditional? Absolutely not. Pedagogically innovative? Who knows? Does it make us enjoy learning? Without question.” – Joe Kupferberg, ‘14

THE ARTS
From the spark of an idea to the growth of artistic talents,
“When I’m in graphic design class, I become an artist. I can create beauty with a few clicks of the mouse. With just a few brush strokes, I can create the impossible and the impractical. I can become anything in this course, and that’s what I truly love— the endless possibilities.” – Madeleine Mynatt, ‘14
FINE, PERFROMING & LITERARY ARTS
students are encouraged to express their creativity and develop an appreciation for the arts. At CJHS, students are exposed to a variety of fine, performing and literary arts so they can discover their self-expression and recognize their artistic potential.

EXTRAORDINARY
“After I retired from public school, I came here to teach one class. Eight years later, I am still here loving the students, my classes and most of all the feeling of caring and sharing that is here every day you walk through these front doors. What a wonderful place for a student to attend and a teacher to teach.” – Bob Taylor, Biology Teacher
“I knew from the moment that I walked through the doors at freshman curriculum night that CJ was the right place for me. Everyone welcomed me with open arms into the CJHS family.” – Alena Burda, ‘14

EXTRAORDINARY HIGH SCHOOL “Growing up in the former USSR, I did not have an opportunity to go to any Jewish schools or camps. Because I missed out on a Jewish education, I wanted my daughters to receive an excellent general and Jewish education. When my oldest daughter, Alena, began showing an interest in Jewish education, I knew that CJHS was the right place for her.” – Igor Burda, CJHS Staff

PASSION FOR SUCCESS
“Our child graduated, being able to go out into the world as an independent thinker. As a young adult, he is able to look at the world Jewishly, look at the world as an American and be able to handle life situations as he takes the next steps in his life.” – Melissa Spellman, CJHS Parent

The Next Step THE NEXT STEP At CJHS, students have the opportunity
to shape their destinies and become the type of people they want to be.
“I love CJHS because it offers me all of the tools I need to be successful. I am confident that by the time I graduate from CJHS, I will be ready and willing to take on all of the responsibilities of a well-adjusted adult. In addition to the wonderful education CJHS provides, it also teaches its students the importance of being socially adept and aware of their surroundings. As a teenager, I could not dream of a better environment than CJHS to grow as a person and form my own identity.” – Lauren Schlessinger, ‘15
