Advice from an Old Hat To the honors chemistry students and other budding engineers, Daniel gave the following advice: Effort outworks talent. You only need to be smart enough. Read a lot! It makes you interesting. Collaborate! Never be afraid to ask for or give help. Network, network, network! It's all about whom you know. Don’t wait for anything. Do what you love. Appreciate challenging material in high school – it only gets harder from here. Have fun!

Alumni Trivia The multi-talented Ron Schrag ('08) is now Mar Schrag in seventh and eighth grade Judaic Studies! Ron originally studied architecture for a year in Philadelphia, but decided he wanted something more people-oriented. He finished his education at Knox College in Galesburg, IL, where he majored in elementary and middle school education. Following graduation, Ron spent some time in Israel as a Joint Distribution Committee Service Corps fellow; his experiences teaching English in a low-income neighborhood school in Bat Yam are chronicled in his blog. At that time, he also volunteered as a coach in Ultimate Peace, an organization that brings together Arab-Israeli, Jewish, and Palestinian youth through the power of Ultimate Frisbee. A Taste of Torah: L'David for Elul The beginning of the school year parallels the beginning of the Jewish year, when we recite Psalm 27. We return to the routines of September, but we are different, too. For some this is a new school, figuring out how to swim in the newness. Everyone grew emotionally and physically over the summer. Our teachers, too, are reacquainting ourselves to the routines of school and the joys of educating on a daily basis. During this newness, let us all listen to the Psalmist whose opening words state that “God is my light and salvation.” We have hopes and dreams for the upcoming year and also initial impressions of what it will bring. Each year will be defined by many weeks of learning, socializing and growing. Trusting in ourselves, our friends, our teachers, and God will give us stability and strength to accomplish not just to navigate our fleeting thoughts and feelings from two weeks of school but to accomplish long-term goals in multiple aspects of our lives.
