P.O. Corner The P.O. is pleased to offer the gift card or "Scrip/Gelt" program, designed to help families earn money to apply towards their students' Shabbatonim, Junior Class trip, and Senior Israel Experience. By purchasing gift cards through the school for vendors where you ordinarily shop (groceries, gas, household items, etc), a percentage of what you spend each time will be placed in your family's account to be used for these trips. Gift card orders are placed every Thursday. Please contact Sheri Sandrof at ssandrof@cjhs.org or 847.324.3723 with any questions.

Men's soccer started out strong this week with a 2-1 win against St. Benedict on Monday. Goals came from Azeyah Boyd and Jacob Erlichman, who scored on a volley with his weak foot, no less! The soccer team played Cristo Rey and Northtown and is gearing up for a match against Holy Trinity next week. Men's golf lost to Northridge Prep in a good game last night, where Seth Wein shot a 49, Oliver Friedman shot a 52, and Jake Lankford and Josh Lederman tied for fourth with a 53. The golf team was led by Ethan Laney with a 47--our individual low for the season! (Many thanks to Mr. Doug Laney for the sports photos!)

Grandparents and Special Friends Association Help us get in touch with some very special people in your students' lives! Please reply here with the names, addresses, and emails of their grandparents and/or special friends so we can forward them a membership form to join our "Grandparents and Special Friends Organization". If you provide an email address, they can also begin receiving CJHS enews. Contact Sheri Sandrof at 847.324.3723 or ssandrof@cjhs.org with any questions.

Mr. Baumstark 's honors pre-calculus class has been building a Cluster site of math applications, photos, questions, jokes, and errors to avoid as they finish their study of vectors. The goal is for students to capture "math moments" outside the classroom in safe space to share with fellow students. Beneath the Helmet Join Jerusalem U's Celebration of Israeli Soldiers Buffet reception and exclusive sneak peek of

A film about the lives, dreams, fears and dilemmas of young Israeli soldiers.

The puppies are here! In what is rapidly becoming an annual tradition, CJHS junior Becca Abrams, who works with service dogs, treated the freshmen to a therapy session with the puppies whom she is helping train. Becca explained to the advisory groups all about Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organization that trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities, and provides free trained dogs for support, assistance, and companionship. The service dogs accompanied Becca to class as a training exercise for escorting disabled companions. The puppies behaved in class with exemplary composure, much to the benefit of certain young humans, who can doubtless profit from their example!

Orot Congratulations to Rabbi Sam Feinsmith and his associates Rabbi Jordan BendatAppell, Rabbi Josh Feigelson, Rebecca Minkus-Lieberman, and Jane Shapiro on the launch of Orot, Chicagoland's hottest new pluralistic beit midrash (house of Torah study), and now a proud recepient of the prestigious Joshua Venture Groups' Dual Investment Program Fellowship. The Orot Center for New Jewish Learning will be offering regular evening sessions most weeknights beginning October 20. The center will focus on Torah study as a spiritual practice for intentional living

and personal/communal transformation, offering students an array of modalities and entry points into the text--movement, art, poetry, song, meditation, and contemplative study. Its talented team of educators will offer sessions on Chassidism, mindfulness, Talmud, and the weekly Haftarot. Orot will draw from a wide range of learners with a variety of skills--some with extensive backgrounds in Jewish text study, and some with little to no experience. All are welcome! Orot's list of offerings is now available and open for registration here. Please contact Rabbi Feinsmith or orotchicago@gmail.com with any questions about Orot. We hope that this venture will bring more light to our lives, to our community, and ultimately to the world.
