Seniors Take Off Frozen planes and frozen runways, snowstorms and windstorms and a frantic race across Newark airport, and our senior class is finally off to Israel! All hail Lee Nissen, Travel Agent of Champions, for getting our 50 students and staff rerouted across North America in time for their midnight flight.
card "Gelt" program. This program is designed to help families earn money toward their children's junior year Panim program and/or the Senior Israel Experience. Faculty and staff can also buy Gelt to support programs provided for the school by the P.O. By buying things you ordinarily purchase anyway, you can earn money which will be credited to your family or class for designated school trips. Week 1 of the trip takes the students out into nature for exploration and self-analysis. Monday's tour of the south began with Kibbutz Ketura, its algae-based cosmetic plants, and its old-fashioned kibbutznik equal-pay system. From there, it was off to the wilderness to jump in the sand dunes and to spend personal time in the wilderness. One student remarked on the experience, "I simultaneously felt quite vulnerable and very powerful. It was really Adam I and Adam II at once." Dr. Schorsch's Lonely Man of Faith conversations are still going strong! Wednesday, everyone journeyed into the middle of the desert to spend the night under the stars. Around a roaring bonfire, the class began a student-initiated circle of gratitude. In the morning, following a night under the stars, everyone davened individually throughout the wadi. There was something quite special about spending a night under the stars while sleeping on the sand. After all, pointed out senior Jonny Chasin, God's promise to Avram was that his children would be as many as the stars in the sky and the sand of the sea. After a hike up Black Mountain, the group headed up to Tel Aviv to see the sights and take in a Yonatan Raizel concert; our exhilarated seniors are now settling into Jerusalem and cruising through the shuk to prepare for Shabbat. They have planned to have Kabbalat Shabbat together as a CJHS community, followed by dinner with alumni and a tisch for the ages. Shabbat shalom, seniors!

Physics Bridges Mrs. Eliaser's honors physics students paraded their final contruction projects to the testing platform this week. In Thursday's first round, the most efficient bridge in the group was Yoni Shapiro, Eli Schrayer, and Elan Karoll's Warren truss, which supported 45 times its own weight. In a notable second place was Hannah Given and Josh Aaronson's Warren truss, with 27 times its own weight. Maya Behn and Dana Levin's original design took third place, supporting 11 times its own weight before a strut broke. On Friday's second round, Eli Krule's compact Warren supported a respectable 16 times its own weight, while David Steinberg's double-intersection Warren set a new class high with 48.5 times its own weight. Acharon acharon chaviv, this year's all-new triplecrown bridge-building champions, Ruli WarnerRosen and Jacob Erlichman, brought in a Warren truss that supported 79.1 times its own weight before bending visibly
under pressure! Ruli and Jacob's creation is the third-highest scorer in CJHS history, after the current record of 121 set by Sissa Abecassis ('10) and Jaime Borkan ('10) and the close 94 achieved by Daniel Warshawsky ('10) and Adam Rudolph ('10) in the same year. Ruli and Jacob will represent CJHS next year at the IIT regional bridge building competition downtown.
