Neiman Marcus Fashion Award The Neiman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion was a yearly award created in 1938 by Carrie Marcus Neiman and Stanley Marcus. Unlike the Coty Award, it was not limited to American-based fashion designers, Recipients of the Neiman Marcus Awards include couturiers, non-American-based designers, journalists, manufacturers, and celebrities and style icons who had had a significant personal influence upon fashion such as Grace Kelly and Grace Mirabella.

The award was typically presented to multiple recipients each year, rather than to a single individual, although Adrian was the sole winner in 1943, a feat repeated in 1957 by Coco Chanel. From 1969 the awards became increasingly intermittent, with ceremonies held in 1973, 1979, 1980, 1984 and 1995, the last year in which the awards were presented. For the final ceremony, the founder, Stanley Marcus, received one of his own awards.

Fashion for me over the years has been so interesting dealing with apparel all my life. I grew up in the eighties therefore, I witnessed the making maybe of the most popular brands in the fashion industry. Seeing them transformed by creative directors and the worlds most popular influencers. Growing up not even thinking that all I ever wore was labels unlike fashion week 2018's Fashion Designers Portrait department (on page 47). Past girlfriends noticed what i was doing more then I did. While all types of people have a fashion sense those who pay attention to next year's runway season looks are most likely to buy from major brands and fashion houses. But those who really pay attention seem to focus more on local fashion designers alike (on page 90). After building a Burberry mega -fashion house in our Stylish Report Christopher Baily, is leaving behind a traditional legendary only the British can honestly respect (on page 47).

Editor-In-Chief Ervin Hodges Jr.

As 2018 rolls on from the beginning it seems as if fashion weeks around the world compacted 3 glories months into F/W18 making it full of fun fabric that was enjoyable thru the designers apparel worn by models of the world's favorite F/W 2018 runway shows.

Christopher Bailey, Burberry's Creative Director Christopher Bailey, Burberry's creative director, will exit at the end of 2018 after 17 years with the brand. He'll remain president and chief creative officer until he steps down from the board on March 31, 2018, and will guide CEO Marco Gobbetti through the transition until he fully parts ways with the label on December 31, 2018.

STYLISH REPORT

“It has been the great privilege of my working life to be at Burberry, working alongside and learning from such an extraordinary group of people over the last 17 years," Bailey said in a statement. "It has been a truly inspiring place to work and the decision to leave was not an easy one."

The designer, 46, joined Burberry in 2001 under former CEO Rose Marie Bravo and has been a part of the brand's "incredible transformation" and "success in that period," Gobbetti said in a statement. After Bravo stepped down, Bailey worked closely with her successor, Angela Ahrendts, when she started in 2006 an helped establish the British label as a reputable luxury brand,

I would have loved to formally meet Lucian Freud. Sadly, that won't happen.

Business of Fashion reports. He took over as chief creative officer and chief executive officer in 2014, when Ahrendts left for Apple.

Gobbetti, who joined Burberry as CEO this year, respects Bailey's decision to leave and is now working to find his successor. "While I am sad not to have the opportunity to partner with him for longer, the legacy he leaves and the exceptional talent we have at Burberry give me enormous confidence in our future," he added.

Bailey continues in his statement: "I do truly believe, however, that Burberry’s best days are still ahead of her and that the company will go from strength to strength with the strategy we have developed and the exceptional talent we have in place led by Marco. I would like to thank all my colleagues as well as Sir John Peace and the Board for all their support and faith in me over the years. I am excited to pursue new creative projects but remain fully committed to the future success of this magnificent brand and to ensuring a smooth transition."

WHERE TO STAY IN LONDON A SLICK RENOVATION OF A CLASSIC HOTEL IN THE HEART OF THE CAPITAL'S LITERARY DISTRICT THE BLOOMSBURY’S RENAISSANCE, LONDON At the heart of our business is a warmth of service that stems from our family ownership, imbuing our properties with the familiarity of a members club and the intimacy of a private home. The Bloomsbury Hotel in London is part of a chain of hotels privately own and operated. It stands as one of the families eight hotels – landmark buildings in unrivaled city locations have its own distinct personality that is rooted in, and authentic too, its neighborhood. Innovation and ongoing investment ensure a boutique, cosmopolitan yet local feel – as seen in our cool destination restaurants, bars, and event spaces – while our heritage lends character to our vision of informal luxury, timeless style, and the very best guest experience. THE BLOOMSBURY, A 1928 SIR EDWIN LUTYENS, GRADE-II LISTED BUILDING ON GREAT RUSSELL STREET IN LONDON. The Irish hotel group Doyle Collection picked up the rundown Central Club – once the Edwardian-era hub for emancipated young women moving to London – in the late 1990s and have been refashioning it ever since. For this latest reveal, it has put on the razzle-dazzle with designer Martin Brudnizki’s show-stopping Coral Room. Known for his maximalist interiors – as seen at New York’s superb Beekman hotel – he hasn’t held back here, the double-height room flushed in a high-gloss peachy pink and lit by five enormous Murano chandeliers. OYSTER MASTERCLASS AT BENTLEY’S OYSTER BAR & GRILL

LONDON'S MOST TRENDIEST BOROUGH

Oyster Shucking

Recently I was lucky enough to be invited along to an Oyster Masterclass at Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Piccadilly, London. The Oyster Masterclass gives you the opportunity to learn all about oysters, shuck them, pair them with wines, and of course, eat plenty of them in a relaxed and informal environment. The Oyster Masterclass is held once a month at Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill and costs $90 per person. They last for about an hour and a half and include free-flowing champagne and wine and as many oysters as you can eat! The nice thing about them is the maximum class size is 14 as you all sit around the long bar. Cosy and informal and a great way to get to know other people and have fun in a relaxed environment. Fred and Helio expertly shucked some of the oysters and gave them to us to taste. They described the best way to eat them – lemon juice and a tiny bit of black pepper. I can honestly say I’ve never had a better oyster. That Native Oyster was so fresh and firm and meaty, and they were right, lemon and black pepper is definitely the way forward. If you prefer there is shallot vinegar and even tabasco if you want it (although don’t let Helio see you do that!)

NOMADIC

|

Then it was over to us and our turn to have a go at shucking them! We had a special block to hold the oysters. Much easier than the way they were doing it in their hands! We still had to stand up to get some force behind opening them! They’re slippery little suckers but you know what – the expert tuition worked. Not quite as neat as theirs but I did it without too much trouble. I even impressed myself.I then had a go with a couple more but it just seemed easier (lazier) to sit back and chat with the other guests while Fred and Helio opened them for us! With the champagne free-flowing this was no hard task! After trying the Native Oysters it was time to try The Rock Oysters. Two different types that came from Dorset and Carlingford in Ireland. I’m no oyster expert, but even I could tell the difference. They were softer, less firm and meaty and slightly more watery in flavor. During the class, you get given an ‘Oyster Passport’ so you can record which ones you loved and which not so much! Helio also opened a bottle of the House Wine – the Picpoul de Pinet for us to try as he wanted to show that oysters pair just as well with white wine as they do with the classic champagne. He was right, the crisp acidity of the Picpoul really did match perfectly with the salty, almost metallic taste of the oysters. Then, just when we thought we couldn’t eat any more oysters, (I must have eaten between 8 and 10!) out came a tasting plate of cooked oysters. Done in so many different ways, they were baked, fried, marinated and served with spinach, hollandaise, garlic, chorizo etc.

Cooked Oysters Completely different to the fresh oysters, each was delicious in it’s, on right, but it only really tasted of the sauce or the way it had been cooked. It had lost the fresh, saltiness that comes with the raw ones. I have to say though, I absolutely loved the baked oyster with spinach and hollandaise sauce and the deep-fried oyster with chorizo and caramelized shallots! All too soon the class was over but it really was a wonderful way to spend a few hours. I loved it so much that I even booked my boyfriend and, I in for a tasting plate of oysters for Valentine’s Day treat. Very informative and educational and above all fun. This Oyster Masterclass at Bentley’s would make a great date idea or a gift for a foodie friend! Feeling a little bit tipsy I made my way home. Now I’m looking forward to returning for more of the same on Valentine’s night! The Oyster Masterclass at Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill is held once a month and costs $90 per person. They last for about an hour and a half and include champagne on arrival, oyster master class and tasting with sommelier matched wines. You will also get to take home a goody bag with apron, recipe cards, and the oyster knife. For more information or to book a class, call T: +44 (0)20 7734 4756.

Miami Fashion Week Events You Won't Want to Miss BY

NICOLE

MARTINEZ

Looking for packing inspiration for your summer vacation? With Miami Fashion Week just around the corner, you're in luck. Taking place this Wednesday, May 30, through Sunday, June 3, MIAFW will return for its third straight year of presenting resort collections from celebrated local and international designers. The event, which last year registered on the official calendar of the Council of Fashion Designers Association (CFDA), will once again show solely resort-wear collections, which means you can expect to see plenty of tropical prints, airy fabrics, and romantic frills. Last year's standouts included a show by Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, whose '60s-inspired swimsuits and ready-to-wear looks included iridescent fabrics and cheeky prints in bold colors. This year, aspiring fashion designers and fashionistas won't want to miss a host of runway events and educational symposiums. Here's a roundup of the top five Fashion Week events.

AGATHA RUIZ DE LA PRADA PRE-GALA.

Madrid-based designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is known for her ultra-playful pieces in textured fabrics and emoji-inspired prints. Standouts from last year's collection included a swimsuit made of hot-pink clam-shell appliques and a suit with a three-dimensional fried egg that hung in the center of the garment. This year, Ruiz de la Prada's looks are expected to be no less than spectacular, and she's scheduled for a prime slot during MIAFW. Her show will cap off Friday night's runway events at the Ice Palace Studios, just before VIP guests head to the MIAFW Benefit Gala at the Alfred I. duPont Building. The gala gets an honorable mention because it'll be hosted by the still-swoon-worthy Antonio Banderas. 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Ice Palace Studios, 59 NW 14th St., Miami. Tickets cost $90 to $125 via eventbrite.com.

OSCAR CARVALLO RESORT-WEAR COLLECTION After you've imbibed cocktails to your heart's content, head to Brickell City Centre's top floor for Venezuelan-born designer Oscar Carvallo's runway show. If you, like many Miami fashionistas, frequently walk past Carvallo's Design District storefront dreaming of the kind of event to which you might wear one of his fantastical couture creations, this runway event is for you. Carvallo, whose signature includes elaborate beadwork and ornate gowns, will present a resort-wear collection that's sure to be nothing short of decadent. 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Brickell City Centre, 701 S. Miami Ave., Miami. Tickets cost $90 to $125 via eventbrite.com.

Hijab Chic at Anniesa Hasibuan SS17 New York Fashion Week Show BY CHARLOTTE SMITH EDITED BY CHIC DAILY MAGAZINE STAFF

In February 2017 the 30-year-old fashion designer set her sights on New York after successfully showing all over the globe including London and Paris.

Apart from being the first Indonesian designer to present her collection at NYFW, she's also the first one to bring Hijabs on the runway. In the first of its kind presentation, the designer showcased a collection inspired by Jakarta - her home town.

Designers have been showcasing their exquisite collections at New York Fashion Week. Considering the number of designers who're lighting up the runway, it's a little too easy to forget a few of them. However, designer Anniesa Hasibuan is definitely not one of them.

She was inspired to create a collection that would break boundaries and crossover to mainstream fashion with separates in an earthy color palette of neutrals, peaches and greens that can be worn with our without a hijab. If you are a fashion editor/journalist you know how the first show of the day and the last show of the day are the hardest to make it to. On this day after 9/11 and the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha, also called the “Sacrifice Feast”, the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two. Anniesa Hasibuan could not have chosen a more perfect evening to unveil her Hijab Chic collection. Ladies attending the show were dressed to impress because of the Eid Holiday, and mingled with the normal New York Fashion crowd, students, bloggers and editors. Happy, I had decided not to skip this one. It gave us a reason to ignore the news and get away from our screens.

This young muslim designer made fashion history at New York fashion week showing her Spring Summer 2017 and fulfilling one of her dreams. Mashallah. It was a proud moment for us muslim women who love fashion. The ones who cover and the ones like me who don’t. It’s all in our hearts. The show made me sit up straight, pay attention and take notes. My followers were watching looking for their next Eid, Haute Couture or wedding event outfit ideas. Anniesa Hasibuan made many Mipsterz and hijab chic women happy that night. Comfortable at New York Fashion Week like a Queen, or a princess and her court dressed in modest designer wear! The Indonesian designer had previously shown her designs at Istanbul Modest Fashion Week – where all looks were complete with head to toe hijab. These garments were far from modest, in a sense and embellishment was not sparred.

"DIFFERENCE IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE AFRAID OF— IT'S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD EMBRACE."

My jaw started to drop each second that I saw a new garment come down the runway. The models were proud, and modestly dressed, but they also wore certain pieces that could easily be worn by any women. You know for those nights in Dubai, Marrakech or Ibiza. My only questions is will the fashion world acknowledge this market? At New York Fashion Week? Yet, another designer I found this fashion week who should show during Paris, Haute Couture. It just makes sense really. I hope so! New York Fashion Week, is on to something here. The collection was like watching a romance come down the runway right before your eyes ending with the dramatic wedding dress to slay. Sounds Haute Couture to me.

Lousy Rich is again ready to rock your closet in 2018.

LIKE MANY ARTISTS, BREANNA SCHOONOVER'S STORY HAD HUMBLE BEGINNINGS. LONG BEFORE HER "LOUSY RICH" LINE WAS ROAMING THE RUNWAYS OF PHOENIX AND NEW YORK FASHION WEEKS, HER KINDERGARTEN SELF WAS TRACING HER BODY OUTLINE ONTO HER GRANDMOTHER'S SHEETS, CUTTING GOWNS OUT OF THEM AND ROAMING AROUND THE HOUSE. FASHION SOON BECAME AN OUTLET FOR HER, AND SCHOONOVER SAID SHE WAS INSPIRED BY HER OWN WEDDING AND TIME AT FIDM TO CREATE HER OWN "URBAN CHIC" LINE. SCHOONOVER SAID HER SPRING/SUMMER 2016 LINE, MAXED OUT, IS DESIGNED FOR "THE MODERN GIRL WHO DOESN'T NEED A MILLION BUCKS TO LOOK LIKE A MILLION BUCKS." "LOUSY RICH" CONSISTS OF READY-TO-WEAR AND MADE-TO-ORDER ITEMS, AND SCHOONOVER SAID SHE PRIDES HERSELF ON THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING IN HER READYTO-WEAR COLLECTION IS $99 OR LESS. "THERE'S NO ONE THING THAT INSPIRES ME," SHE SAID. "EVERYTHING INSPIRES ME — THE GIRL PUMPING GAS NEXT TO ME, SOMETHING I SEE ON THE RED CARPET, SOMETHING I DON'T NORMALLY SEE IN THE WORLD. ... MY STYLES ARE PULLED IN FROM EVERYDAY LIFE." SCHOONOVER SAID THE VISION AND DESIGN BEHIND "LOUSY RICH" WERE STRONGLY INSPIRED BY HER PERSONAL JOURNEY, AND NOW REFLECT A STYLE SHE DEEMS "WESTSIDE DOWNTOWN MEETS UPTOWN SCOTTSDALE." THAT VISION AND DRIVE LED HER TO BE HAND-SELECTED BY LAST YEAR'S PHOENIX FASHION WEEK COMMITTEE FOR THEIR EMERGING DESIGNERS COLLECTION.

SETTING TRENDS

HOW OLIVIA PALERMO IS THE QUEEN OF STREET STYLE

She’s the queen of street style. She sits in the front row at the Couture shows. She’s married to a male model. We know all of these things about 30-year-old Olivia Palermo, the fashion icon and alumna of MTV reality show The City. But paparazzi sidewalk photos and a few years on a reality show don’t paint a full picture of a person. The real OP, as her team calls her, is more mysterious. And she’s been that way for much of her adult life. It’s not that Olivia avoids speaking to the press and granting interviews: she actually does it quite often. In the last month alone, POPSUGAR has connected with Olivia on three different occasions: at a preview for her Nordstrom collection; on the phone for this piece; and at a special New York Fashion Week dinner. During each of these encounters, Olivia was, what I like to call, “delightfully enigmatic.” She offers conversation, but not in excess. She has the rare gift of knowing just how much to reveal — without disclosing too much. Interviewing Olivia is a good challenge for a reporter, particularly if you set out to uncover something interesting and insightful. Being slightly unknowable is a good public relations strategy and a wise move considering the business Olivia has built. She’s created that mighty accomplishment for a celebrity: a brand. The Olivia Palermo enterprise is sizable at this point, between her website OliviaPalermo.com, guest designing for a long list of brand partners, modeling, and endorsements.

"YOU KNOW WHAT — IN THE LINE OF WORK THAT I'M IN, AND EVERYTHING THAT I DO, IT IS A COMPLETE BUSINESS. AND I LOVE IT." “I have a very small team that I work with, that I really trust and value their opinions,” she said. “That’s basically it. It’s me at the end of the day — a small team and me. I think we manage to do a great job.” “It is important to you to be recognized as a businesswoman?” I asked. “You know what — in the line of work that I’m in, and everything that I do, it is a complete business. And I love it,” she said. “I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t.” Olivia Palermo, the diplomat.

10 YEARS IN THE LIMELIGHT

Even back in 2006, when Olivia was starting out as a public figure, she seemed media savvy. As the story goes, Olivia almost fell into being famous. While a student at Manhattan’s New School, where she focused on media studies, Olivia began attending charity events with friends. Society photographer Patrick McMullan snapped a photo of Olivia at a gala. One photo led to more photos. That first party led to more parties. Her love of a pretty dress and perfectly done hairstyle got her on the fashion world’s radar. Before she knew it, Olivia’s social rise was deemed worthy of note by The New York Times in early 2007: its piece detailed Olivia’s in-demand status in the front rows of Fashion Week. Photos from that time prove that Olivia’s look and demeanor are essentially unchanged: her hair is long and styled with a curl; her outfits are unique, yet elegant; she has a clear gift for accessorizing; and she seems both pleased and patient as her photo is taken. Now, Olivia’s good taste is the foundation of her growing brand. She’s known for having a certain elegance that seems like a throwback to the era of Audrey Hepburn, white gloves, and impractically small purses. You’ll never see Olivia wearing sweats.

CONVERSATIONALIST “I MIGHT LOSE YOU — I’M SORRY TO CUT YOU OFF, BUT I’M WALKING IN!”

Tibi Sweater; DVF Pants + Vest; Faris Ring; DVF Earrings; Christian Louboutin Pumps

“I definitely don’t leave the house until I’m fully pulled together,” she said, clarifying that the habit persists even if she’s going to the gym with her husband, model Johannes Huebl, or walking her dog, Mr. Butler. “I start my day fully dressed and ready to go. You never know where the day leaves you. That’s how my mother is; I definitely learned from her.” Olivia is famous for mixing high-end designer pieces with more affordable, so-called high street items. She’s known for her love of Zara, much like another fashion icon — the Duchess of Cambridge. Olivia’s style is simultaneously elevated and accessible. Fans love to see what she wears, whether she’s at a fashion show or walking down the street. I asked her if it ever seems like a lot of pressure, that part of her job is getting photographed regularly. “No,” she replied. “I just get dressed for myself and my environment for the day — what I’m feeling for the moment.” Since her launch onto the social scene nearly 10 years ago, Olivia has seemed content to let clothes do some of the talking. Olivia seemed to know in her early 20s that there was an art to choosing the perfect words or turns of phrase — or choosing to simply say nothing at all. By late 2007, New York magazine recognized Olivia’s reluctance to give too much away in interviews. (They also detailed what is possibly her only pseudo-scandal to date, the story of a letter, now determined to have been forged, in which Olivia purportedly begged other New York socialites to let her join their group.)

I DEFINITELY DON'T LEAVE THE HOUSE UNTIL I'M PULLED TOGETHER. I START MY DAY FULLY DRESSED AND READY TO GO. YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE THE DAY LEAVES YOU. THAT'S HOW MY MOTHER IS; I DEFINITELY LEARNED FROM HER.

BUILDING THE OLIVIA PALERMO BRAND The City went off the air in 2010, and Olivia pivoted back to the world of fashion. The following year, she launched her website. And the business of Olivia Palermo, fashion expert, began to grow. Olivia has always been confident when it comes to her editorial eye. She doesn’t use a stylist and mixes brands, colors, and patterns all on her own. Now Olivia’s knack for identifying trends is being leveraged in her company’s next big push: partnerships. Stars from that era of MTV reality shows — including Olivia, Whitney, The Hills’ Lauren Conrad, and Laguna Beach’s Kristin Cavallari — were new sources of fascination for the network’s female audience. The shows became a conversation point for many young women, who were intrigued by stories of similarly aged women struggling through personal and professional challenges — and generally looking fabulous while doing so.

Over the last year, Olivia has worked on collections for BaubleBar, Westward Leaning, Ciaté London, and Aquazzura. She modeled for the cult luxury skincare brand La Mer. Olivia’s latest project, a capsule range for Nordstrom’s Chelsea28 brand, arrived in stores this week.

Before social media made stars appear accessible, it felt possible to actually know Olivia, Whitney, Lauren, or Kristin. Ten years on, they have each built their own unique brands and careers, supported by the fans who felt so close to them during their time in the MTV spotlight. But Olivia was unique in one key way: she never gave too much of herself away on The City. In a genre in which the norm was gossiping, drinking, staying out late, and breaking down, Olivia was the opposite. She was quiet. She was restrained. There’s no meme of Olivia Palermo crying.

Olivia’s old friends from the editorial world have been very supportive of the Nordstrom collaboration; reviews of the collection are quite good. “I’m really happy,” she said. “It’s really wonderful, and I’m really excited. We’ve been working on it for the last few months, and now that it’s finally out, it’s great to see the reaction. I’m really grateful.”

She earned a reputation for a certain degree of iciness after her two seasons on the show, which to me seems misplaced. She wasn’t awkward, really: she was practicing the art of never saying too much. She was thinking even beyond MTV. She was thinking about her brand.

Perhaps due to her growing power as a designer and collaborator, Olivia has assumed something of an oracle-like position in the fashion press. It’s hard to find an interview with her in which she isn’t being quizzed about one emerging trend or another.

Critics have long alleged that The City and The Hills were, essentially, scripted dramas. And Olivia herself has admitted that her role on the show was, to some degree, a performance. “I thought it'd be a wonderful learning experience, being in front of the cameras,” she said in a 2009 interview with New York’s PIX11 News. “And acting is something I'd always wanted to do.”

I myself am guilty of this: in a piece last year, I wondered aloud whether Olivia felt that the Carolina Herrera separates she wore to her 2014 wedding had launched a craze among brides to ditch dresses in favor of two-piece looks. Acknowledging that she’d seen “one or two” imitators on Instagram, Olivia approved of the trend that she herself had begun. “Brides today are a bit more modern,” she replied, explaining why a traditional dress may not be one’s top choice. “You kind of want that extra touch.” Fashion advice, though, is a one-way street for Olivia. She gives it. She does not receive it, as she explained when I asked if she ever turns to anyone for style tips. “I don’t,” she explained. “I really just go with what I see in the trends and on the runway.” And it takes work to get that firsthand knowledge of what’s on the runways. There’s a logistical challenge in taking a team along as one travels twice a year for shows in Paris, Milan, or London, not to mention the between-season and Couture presentations. It’s a lot of travel, but Olivia has been doing it for years. She has a system. “Some people take a subway, and they have their times and days when they take it — that’s the same thing with us when we fly back and forth to Europe or to Asia,” she explained. “We have a preferable route.” Team OP has traveling down to a science at this point. She and Johannes love the punctuality of the German airline Lufthansa. Their suitcases? Always Rimowa. They use the same local drivers in any given European city. And then there are the baggies. “Another tip of mine,” Olivia shared. “Baggies are fantastic. I put all of my cosmetics, my makeup, everything in Ziploc bags because they really keep things organized and clean.” Organization is a big thing for Olivia, though she’s not one to give into the craze for Marie Kondo-level decluttering. Instead of thanking and discarding à la Kondo, Olivia saves for later.

PRACTICALITIES OF BEING OP “I do lots of Spring-cleaning,” she said. “But I also do a lot of archiving as well.” When they aren’t traveling, Olivia is able to enjoy her Brooklyn home with Misters Huebl and Butler. Weekends are low-key. “Probably going out to dinner, maybe seeing a movie, or seeing some friends, or having friends over and having a nice dinner together,” Olivia said of their typical Saturday night. She and Johannes like watching television together, and favorites include Mr. Selfridge, House of Cards, Homeland, and Madam Secretary. But Olivia says, “Everything in moderation.” Couch dwelling is balanced by regular exercise and a good diet. Olivia loves FlyBarre and Bikram yoga but passes on SoulCycle as it “bulks up your legs a bit.” She was a rower until her early 20s. Now she and Johannes ski in the Winter and play tennis in the Summer. “Growing up, my parents were always very healthy,” she said. “It’s just a normal thing to be healthy and work out.” She’ll try buzzy food trends, like juicing. “Of course, you try new things,” she said. “But I have a great sweet tooth as well.” She watches television, but she takes care to exercise. She eats healthy, but also eats unhealthy. Olivia has a knack for agreeing with and enlarging the scope of a discussion, an interpersonal gift that’s the hallmark of a good conversationalist. She’s exceedingly polite. Among the POPSUGAR editors who have met or interviewed Olivia, everyone I have spoken to agrees that she is an unfailing master of etiquette. Olivia is a woman who minds her manners, always. “Thank you, sir!” Olivia brightly said to her driver in the middle of our conversation, as she left her car and entered Milk Studios for the photo shoot. To me, she added, “I might lose you — I’m sorry to cut you off, but I’m walking in!”

OLIVIA PALERMO, THE FASHION ICON

THE PROFESSIONAL POPSUGAR fashion reporter Allison McNamara has been won over by Olivia. Allison, who has interviewed Olivia upwards of 10 times, remembers that before her third or fourth go around Olivia greeted her with a broad, “Hi, Allison!” It stood out to Allison because so few fashion people remember — or admit to remembering — reporters’ names. Having done her own stint in the journalism world, at Elle, Olivia likely knows that being friendly and kind can go a long way. Olivia even politely indulged my inquiry about the well-being of her dog, Mr. Butler. He’s so cute; I couldn’t help but ask. “Mr. Butler, he’s great,” she said. “He’s been a little under the weather for the last few days, but he’s perking up. He’s like a little person. He’s adorable. Thank you so much for asking.” “Is he going to do a campaign anytime soon?” “You know what?” she said, laughing. “He’s been an option for a few campaigns, but nothing has gone through yet. Maybe sometime. I would love that. Mr. B . . . he does love the camera. He’s not shy about it. It’s quite embarrassing.” And finally, with these two questions about Mr. Butler, I got a peek at the real Olivia: a proud dog mom who is actually a little funny. Her much-lauded sense of style and her love of affordable fashion have made her somewhat relatable to fans. But really, what’s sweeter to learn about someone than the fact she’s more or less reduced to a pile of mush when you start discussing that most American of topics, the family dog? Olivia has long known that keeping her cards close to her vest is a good long-term business strategy. But answering some questions — the right questions — just might be the smartest tactic of all.

SOUTH BEACH'S MOST INFAMOUS HOTEL: INSIDE THE VERSACE MANSION BY:REBECCA WALLWORK

VERSACE'S HOME WAS LOCATED ON OCEAN DRIVE IN MIAMI, FL. The world-famous Ocean Drive is one of the most photographed stretches of Miami Beach. But, with its neon lights and sidewalk cafes serving beer-garitas for two, it's not known for being a high-end destination. The exception, nestled amid low-rise Art Deco hotels, with streams of tourists strolling past, is the Villa Casa Casuarina better known as the Versace Mansion. What many of those selfie-snapping tourists outside may not realize is that the former home of late fashion designer Gianni Versace isn't a museum or private home, but a hotel.

HOUSE-TURNED-HOTEL: THE FORMER HOME OF LATE FASHION DESIGNER GIANNI VERSACE HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED INTO ONE OF MIAMI'S MOST OPULENT HOTELS. And it's a hotel where guests can sleep in what was Versace's bedroom. Or in the bedroom of his sister Donatella. Or perhaps the suite where Madonna used to stay when she visited Versace in the '90s and helped put the Miami Beach neighborhood of South Beach on the national scene. If a $1,000-plus-a-night hotel room is out of reach, members of the public can indulge in the villa's Baroque grandeur with a dinner reservation at Gianni's, and an aperitif in the intimate, clubby Onyx Bar, in the space that used to be Versace's kitchen. Since Versace's death -he was shot dead on the steps of his mansion in 1997, thus the camerawielding tourists outside -- the property has changed management a couple of times. However even now, 20 years later, under the ownership of Jordache Enterprises, it retains the designer's over-the-top splendor. (Donatella auctioned off some of the home's contents in 2001, but what remains are the richly decorated walls, floors, ceilings and windows, plus the pool, garden and southern wing.)

THE VERSACE MANSION HAS ALL BUT DULL MOMENTS MANY OF THE MOSAICS ON THE WALLS, CEILINGS, AND FLOORS WERE ADDED DURING VERSACE’S REFURBISHING OF THE HOME.

The unapologetic opulence of Casa Casuarina made it an obvious location for filming the TV series "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story", which will premiere on FX on January 19, 2018. While back in May of 2017, tourists along Ocean Drive were treated to in-costume sightings of the famous resident stars, including Penelope Cruz as Donatella, Ricky Martin as Versace's longtime partner Antonio D'Amico, and Edgar Ramirez as the designer who appeared on the balcony of Versace's former bedroom clad in a pink bathrobe. Versace's bedroom is now known as The Villa Suite, and, like the rest of the mansion's interiors is over-the-top with glitz. In Donatella's bedroom, called the Venus Suite, there is a custom-made double-king-size bed. No longer on display for showing is Versace's $10,000 marble toilet with 24-karat gold-plated seat one of the items auctioned off by Donatella after her brother's death.

NOW KNOWN AS THE VILLA CASA CASUARINA, THE LAVISH ESTATE CURRENTLY OPERATES AS A BOUTIQUE HOTEL WHERE GUESTS CAN STAY IN VERSACE'S BEDROOM FOR A STEEP $1,799.00 PER NIGHT.

Today, Casa Casuarina has 10 hotel suites, plus a restaurant and bar, a lounge that can be used for meetings, a rooftop and an elaborate Mediterranean-style Mosaic Garden, with tiles picturing icons of Greek mythology, chief among them Medusa who has a place of honor on the Versace brand's logo. The most elaborate Medusa can be found in the Villa's 54-foot-long pool, inspired by Versace's "Marine Vanuras" collection and said to be made from more than one million mosaic tiles, thousands of them 24-karat gold. The Medusa mosaic was crafted in Versace's home town, Reggio Calabria, Italy, and then taken apart and shipped to Miami Beach in pieces, where it was painstakingly reassembled. Adjacent to the garden, in the "new wing" that Versace built when he acquired the mansion, is The Moroccan Lounge, which used to be his gym, and still houses his eight-person hamam Turkish steam room and shower. The room where Madonna would stay, the Mosaic Suite, is located upstairs, where the singer apparently enjoyed the bathroom's acoustics and the bird's-eye view of the pool.

THE VENUS SUITE HAS A CUSTOM MADE DOUBLE-KING-SIZE BED, A VIEW OF OCEAN DRIVE AND TWO PRIVATE BALCONIES. THERE’S EVEN A LUXURIOUS HOOKAH LOUNGE INSIDE THE MANSION. THE MASSIVE 23,400-SQUARE-FOOT HOME EVEN HAS 10 ROOMS REMODELED INTO HOTEL SUITES.

Versace purchased Casa Casuarina in 1992, after falling under the spell of the Magic City and the Spanish architecture of the grand house. Next door was an Art Deco Hotel called the Hotel Revere, which Versace also snapped up, and demolished to make way for his garden, pool and the south wing, which used to house one of his libraries. An estimated $32 million in renovations over three years transformed the historic property into a manse fit for a style king. But even before his tenure, Casa Casuarina had a flashy history. It was built in 1930 by Alden Freeman, whose father worked for The Standard Oil Trust and left him a fortune which allowed him to retire at 27 and build his dream house, inspired by the historic Alcazar De Colon in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Freeman lived in a top-floor suite and either housed his friends or rented the 23 remaining apartments. Many of the architectural details of the house, including the key lime coral floors, the pillars surrounding the courtyard, and the decorative medallions of famous personalities (Cleopatra, Gandhi, Rockefeller and more dissonantly Mussolini and Lenin) date to Freeman's time, which ended with his death in 1937, when the house was sold and rented as a apartment complex. By the 1980's, the building fell into disrepair, although most of the original fittings and artworks survived.

As with many famous buildings, Casa Casuarina has its share of mystery: Take a peek at the intricate tiled floor by the pool area. Rumor has it that the complex design holds a cryptic coded message. There is even a rumor of secret doors and passageways throughout the mansion, although a door that used to lead from Versace's bedroom to an entertainment den has since been closed off. It's also said that Versace maintained a pigeon coop beneath the rooftop observatory, and would use the messenger pigeons to send notes to friends. Even 23,000 square feet wasn't enough to hold all of the designer's clothing. He added hidden cubbies around the property to store the overflow from his wardrobe. In some of the rooms, guests can still store their belongings out of sight. Details are scant on these rumors, but what's certain is that The Villa will continue to intrigue visitors, no doubt even more so when the TV series hits screens next year.
