WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CENTER OF THE NATION FOUNDATION?

To provide financial support for the educational and community development activities and programs of the Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce. To promote and develop the economic, civic, cultural and social welfare of the citizens of Butte County, South Dakota through educational programs. To conduct educational programs to encourage the development of small business enterprises in Butte County; To establish technical education programs which will better qualify residents for employment in Butte County; To promote the development of tourism in Butte County through education programs; To promote the use of new technologies, businesses, and education support in Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce Members.

The Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce serves to promote our members, the commercial, civic, and general interests of the city of Belle Fourche, and our trade area. As a voluntary organization our aim is to represent and advocate for our members and the business community as a whole. We are not a civic club, a charitable organization, or department of city government. We are a private, non-profit, taxpaying corporation focused on improving the community and businesses of Belle Fourche. We’re compromised of people — people just like you, who realize that we can accomplish more collectively than individually.

LOOKING FOR MENTORS!

You should have received information from the Chamber in the mail! Over the past several months the Board of Directors and myself have been busy reviewing our member benefits. During that time we made the choice to add additional benefits and revamp and change our events and programs we will be offering. We feel at the Chamber that our primary purpose is to promote the interests of local businesses and contribute to the economic growth and well-being of our community.

We play several important roles:

Advocacy: Chambers of Commerce often act as advocates for the business community. They represent the interests of local businesses to government officials and policymakers, lobbying for favorable business policies, regulations, and infrastructure improvements.

Networking: Chambers provide a platform for businesses to connect and network with one another. We host events, such as business mixers, seminars, and workshops, that facilitate interactions between businesses, potentially leading to collaborations, partnerships, and increased business opportunities.

Business Support: The Chambers offer a range of services and resources to help businesses succeed. This can include business development programs, mentoring, and access to market research and industry data.

Information Hub: Chambers serve as a central source of information for businesses and the community. We publish both weekly and monthly newsletters, websites, and directories that provide valuable information about local businesses, events, and economic trends.

Promotion: Chambers promote their local business community, which can boost tourism and attract investment.

Education and Training: The Chamber is currently working on offering more educational programs, workshops, and seminars to help businesses improve their skills and knowledge in various areas, such as marketing, finance, and technology.

Resource for Visitors: We often provide information and resources to tourists and visitors, helping them find local businesses and attractions.

Voice of the Business Community: Chambers often serve as a collective voice for the business community in public discussions and debates on issues affecting the local economy. WE can help ensure that the concerns and perspectives of businesses are heard and considered.

With that being said please review the mailed documents carefully and if you have any questions please contact the Chamber office. I would be happy to come and chat with you.

UPDATES & HAPPENINGS... LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR
“We strive to PROMOTE our members by providing opportunities for their success & aim to provide tools, resources & information to help our members be successful.”

WHAT IS YOUR MEMBERSHIP USED FOR?

One of the items we use your membership for is for advertising Belle Fourche. This year the Chamber of Commerce spent $30,000 in advertising to Come to Belle Fourche! Here is a list of the advertising efforts we have completed so far. This does not include our event advertising as we have a separate budget for that.

• We have signed a year contract with the Rapid City airport to welcome visitors to visit Belle Fourche.

• We partnered with EDC with the SD Broadcasting Video and advertising

• Black Hills and Badlands - We have a big display along with brochures and our magazine at the Visitor Center | we are in their Magazine and website | 8 trade shows | Door to Door Mailer- 235K received | Road Trip Circular |

• We placed a two full page ad in the Belle Fourche Magazine as we partnered with the Beacon for this. We are OUT of 15k magazines and it is only September. Still being told that our magazine is a hit around the MT, WY, ND, and SD areas

• We have a billboard welcoming visitors to Eat Play Stay and Shop Belle Fourche

• Tri-State Livestock Magazine- Out West Events

• Radio Ads with HomeSlice & KBFS

• Our Intern Ethan has created and is still working on creating marketing videos.

• We have applied for another grant in hopes to spend $10,000 in marketing for “Come to Christmas in Belle Fourche”

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY IS APPROACHING AND WE WANTED TO SHARE A FEW IDEAS WITH YOU.

1. Bundle your merchandise. It is easy to offer a 20 percent off your entire store as it is to swipe your customer’s credit card. Resist the urge. Shoppers will be out spending their money, and you want to attract those looking for something other than a cheap price. Instead, find products you can bundle together as one purchase. Even if it is just a gift card to your retail store, that is much better promotion than a generous storewide discount.

2. Buy from other small businesses. Last year Brittany from Wild Bluebell went around and purchased $5 to $10 gift cards from other businesses in the community and gave them to the first 20 people who came through her door. This was a great idea and a great way to not only promote your own business but support others.

3. Give back to our local nonprofits. Collect donations during the day and select a local nonprofit. Customers feel good when they see businesses making their community a better place.

4. Feed your shoppers. It’s no mystery that shoppers are drawn to free food. The point is that food gets people to linger and relax.
