CEO LETTER

Gigi Hadid & BMW

‘Welcome to the Chic World of the Jetsetter issue 2016. When I thought of the idea of making the Chic Metropolitan Mansion issue, I wanted to make sure it didn’t come out like a boring real estate magazine. We wanted to not only show off the top luxury real estate agents and listings, we wanted to show you “What’s Now and What’s new” in making your Mansion, Home, or High Rise apartment a Smart Home. This was not easy. We took the time to research hundreds of products and try them out. Not everyone made the cut. The ones that did make the cut are ones you should order right now and get them in your home to simply make life easier. It blows my mind when I go to people’s homes and see that they are not taking advantage of technology that is out right now. One of the best products I saw and bought was the Stand Desk. I was having serious back issues from working on the computer everyday. Since I have the stand desk I have not had some of the serious pains that I had before in my back. If you have back problems, stop what ever you are doing and buy a Stand Desk for you home or office. Now let me speak about one of my favorite parts of putting this issue together. Doing the Chic Cover shoot in Beverly Hills at The Villa Grande Bellezza Mansion listed by Joyce Rey Executive Director, Previews International and Stephen Abelian of Caldwell Banker Preview International BEVERLY HILLS, California. I had a chance to interview Joyce Rey and Stephan Abelian. I can see why they’re some of the top real estate estates in Los Angeles. They know the

inside of the market place and take excellent care of their customers. It’s a big reason no matter how big or small they can sell it! I will end this with something that happened to me after doing this issue. I control all my homes, offices and even car right from my cell phone. I know every time the door opens and even weather charges in a hallway. I instantly can change it with my cell phone. Most important security is now in palm of my hand. I now rest better knowing all my family and assets are protected. I would recommend everyone do the same. I hope everyone enjoys this issue. It was very hard because we did everything in person. Did the photoshoots, tried the products, tasted the restaurants. We made sure that everything in this is for our Chic Audience. My team and are I already working on our next issue the Chic Metropolitan Entrepreneur Issue. Follow all of the updates http://chicmetropolitan.com

Ermenegildo Zegna Spring/Summer 2017

Defining Moments campaign starring Robert De Niro

.................................................................................. Ermenegildo Zegna’s latest campaign for Spring/Summer 2017 is an intimate (yet stylish) exploration of life’s defining moments ............................................................................................ ......................................

What was your defining moment? That is the question Italian menswear label Ermenegildo Zegna is exploring in its latest Spring/Summer 2017 campaign – starring the unlikely duo of Hollywood legend Robert De Niro and up-and-coming star McCaul Lombardi (of American Honey fame). Entitled Defining Moments, the campaign is a series of short films shot by renowned auteur Francesco Carrozzini in L.A. and features the two actors coming together (dressed entirely in Zegna naturally) and sharing the moments – be it a chance encounter, risk taken or split-second decision – that defined them. De Niro discusses his mentors and philosophy of risk-taking while Lombardi – visibly awe-struck to be in the company of the veteran – takes in all in. The result? An intimate, multi-generational dialogue that is as heart-warming and stylish as we’d come to expect from Ermenegildo Zegna. Watch the full video below.

With discovery of affinity and mutual learning through conversation, this marks the first expression of a new emotionally-connected voice in which Ermenegildo Zegna’s Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori aims to engage with its global community. Under the Defining Momentsbanner, the brand plans to create a forum for inquiring minds by hosting an eclectic series of informal events with some of the world’s most stylish and successful tastemakers. Defining Moments will be released digitally in tandem with Ermenegildo Zegna’s Spring Summer 2017 collection.

Power + 530 CFM Blower

When I was a kid I had the job of helping do the lawn work. One of my worst things I hated about doing the hard labor was filling them up the lawnmower with gas. Not to mention, carrying the gas can across the lawn as it spilled smelly fumes. My ears would buzz for hours after I did my work because of the noise. One time I even had a huge black cloud blow in face. I didn’t know at the time when I was young that I was contributing to the pollution problem. Let me introduce you to The EGO POWER + cordless outdoor lawn and garden equipment. All Ego products are powered by the ground-breaking Power+ Arc Lithium technology. Say good bye to the problems I listed above. When I saw them online at https://egopowerplus.com I already thought they looked like lawn equipment of the future. The products I received were in perfectly shipped packages. They looked modern, sleek and chic. The rule of hiding your ugly lawn equipment in a storage in the backyard is over. In fact, when I have BBQs my friends and family ask about them. The Chic design makes it look like the Tesla of Lawn equipment. One of my favorite things about the equipment is the charging stations. I’m able to charge my equipment up in 30 minutes. My Favorite thing about it is that I have to not fill them up with Gas. I’m contributing to saving the earth instead of polluting it. EGO has forever changed the nature of lawn and garden equipment Here are all the products the Chic Metropolitan tech Editor tried and approved for the editorial. Don’t make taking care of your lawn harder than it should be. In fact be happy about the easier work you now have to do to keep up with the lawn. Be excited to do it with Ego Power lawn products and show off to your neighbors! You can buy all the products online at www.homedepot.com 19

The discussion focused on the U.S. Healthcare in Crisis and the impact on our families and communities. Vanessa Getty graciously introduced the evening’s guest speakers. Jay Gellert, former CEO of Healthnet and former President of America’s Health Insurance Plans, provided an engaging overview of the current healthcare landscape, trends and the most pressing issues we face. Laurie Green, MD, a prominent San Francisco OB/GYN physician and founder of The MAVEN Project, followed with an inspiring discussion of how, in her former role of president of Harvard Medical School Alumni Association, she conceived of the idea to create The MAVEN Project. She described The MAVEN Project’s activities and the importance of expanding and scaling the consultations and capacity building provided by MAVEN Project volunteers to additional safety-net clinic providers and their patients. Charlotte Shultz closed the presentation by passionately reminding guests of the important mission Dr. Green is spearheading and urging guests to join the MAVEN Project in its journey to address unmet medical needs of our Nation’s most vulnerable populations.’

CHIC AUTO - BUGATTI

Bugatti Exhibition Art of

Goes Beyond Cars

T

he world of the automobile would be significantly poorer without the legacy of Ettore Bugatti. Just the 1924 Type 35 confirms this but Bugatti’s legendary vision also obscures other facets of the family’s creativity, which a new retrospective at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California aims to address. Yes, there is more to the Bugatti name than Ettore and more to that legacy than beautiful cars. Set to open to the public October 23, “The Art of Bugatti” is as much a showcase of fine art, sculpture and furnishings as it is of the engineering genius that made cars such as the 1927 Bugatti 35C unbeatable on the track. “The Bugattis were an incredibly fascinating family and their history, like all families, is filled with both triumph and tragedy,” said Peter Mullin, chairman of the board of directors for the Petersen.

The Petersen Automotive Museum presents The Art of Bugatti. Ettore is indeed the most conventionally famous Bugatti, thanks to those superlative automotive designs and the legacy of the same, kept alive by hypercars such as the Bugatti Veyron and the new Chiron – both of which will be on display. But this Italian-born family was overflowing with artistic capability. “Their incredible aptitude for art and engineering is unparalleled by any family before or since and their legacy is worthy of celebration,” explained Mullin, who is providing several classic Bugattis from his personal collection for the year-long retrospective. “It’s a great honor to share these works with the public.” “The Art of Bugatti” begins its journey with a look at the life of Carlo Bugatti – Ettore’s father – including the skills he mastered, from fine art to furniture design, before showcasing the work of his children and grandchildren.

A 1938 Bugatti “The Art of Bugatti is a show unlike any other,” said Petersen Executive Director Terry Karges. “The quality and variety of the art and automobiles on display is incredible and it truly gives a unique insight into the history of a fascinating and talented family. Art of Bugatti is an exhibition that isn’t to be missed.” And that is true simply for the show’s automotive content. Vehicles on display will include a Type 41 Royale, Type 57 Atalante, Type 35 and Type 46, in addition to the ill-fated EB110 (19911995) and the aforementioned Chiron. Each model was chosen because of the role it played in the company’s or the wider automotive industry’s evolution. The exhibition will receive its grand gala premiere on October 22, hosted by British comedian, actor and talk show host, James Corden, before opening officially to the public on October 23.

Lotus Evora Sport 410

Representing the state of the supercar art, a one-off Evora Sport 410 has been commissioned through Lotus Exclusive as

a tribute to one of its most famous ancestors, the Lotus Esprit S1. Launched in October 2016, the Evora Sport 410 has wowed motoring press and customers with its combination of effortless pace and intuitive handling. With production limited to just 150 examples a year worldwide, the build schedule is filling up fast. The benchmark was set by the original Lotus Esprit S1 as seen in the Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and Lotus’ in-house personalisation department has crafted a special, one-off Evora Sport 410 in commemoration. Combining the latest in Lotus engineering with period details, the new pure-bred supercar takes design cues from the iconic Esprit and integrates them into a car with class-leading performance. Packing 410 hp into a car that weighs just 1,280 kg, it sprints from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 secs.

Jean-Marc Gales, CEO, Group Lotus plc said, “So many of us recall the impact of the Lotus Esprit when it hit the big screen in The Spy Who Loved Me, and we wanted to honour that with a special Evora Sport 410. It’s the perfect tribute to such an influential Lotus, but a world away in terms of its abilities and performance. Supremely fast and agile, rivals’ cars look overweight and underpowered in comparison. Lotus was founded on the principle of lightweight engineering and, even today, nobody does it better.” Lotus Exclusive The work of the in-house personalisation department, Lotus Exclusive, this one-off Evora Sport 410 features many unique design touches. A special, colour-coded bumper modifies the car’s front end, while the one-piece carbon-fibre tailgate is part keyed white to give the illusion of a traditional liftback. In addition to a black coach line, delineating the car’s waist, it sports a bespoke badge script on the B pillar - in the style of the original Esprit’s graphics.

Nods to the Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy Who Loved Me continue inside, with the insert panels of the carbon-fibre sports seats and door cards trimmed in the popular heritage Tartan, while red contrast stitching complements the AlcantaraŽ dashboard and console finish. Beneath the personalisation, this unique car retains all the engineering elements that make the Evora Sport 410 so formidable. From the supercharged, 3.5-litre 6-cylinder engine, producing 410 hp at 7000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm, to the highly advanced aerodynamics, which deliver up to 64 kg of downforce, it’s designed to deliver both on road and track. The Evora Sport 410 remains refined on B-roads, but blisteringly fast when needed. The use of hand-made carbon-fibre components has been key in keeping mass to a minimum, with each specifically designed to enhance the car’s performance. Covering the car from nose to tail, they include front splitter, revised front access panel, roof section, tailgate, rear quarter panels, as well as the rear diffuser. These lightweight carbon components not only reduce the kerb weight of the Evora Sport 410 but also help lower the centre of gravity, allowing for the recalibration of the suspension, which, along with re-valved dampers and a reduced ride height, provide better body and roll control - but not at the expense of comfort and composure.

This one-off Evora underlines the work of the increasingly popular Lotus Exclusive service. Combining traditional British craftsmanship with modern design, it inspires buyers to spend time tailoring the character of their Lotus with a comprehensive array of options. Jean-Marc Gales, CEO, Group Lotus plc continued, “Our customers have really embraced the Lotus Exclusive service, with 25% of new cars undergoing some form of personalisation. It is well established that Lotus cars come with benchmark performance as standard. Now, thanks to the skilled team at Hethel, responsible for hand building all Lotus cars since 1966, you can specify a Lotus that perfectly reflects your personal tastes. The Lotus Evora Sport 410 is limited to a global production run of one-hundred and fifty vehicles per year, and is on sale in Europe and rest of world markets now. A Federal version of the Evora Sport 410 for the North American market will arrive this spring.

BMW

Augmented Reality Visualizer FIRST APPLICATION BY BMW, PROVIDES A TOUR OF NEW CAR BEFORE YOU PURCHASE IT

Following a successful pilot, the BMW i Augmented Reality Visualizer—the world’s first automotive app to use Google’s Tango 3D AR technology—is now live on Google Play for anyone to download. Purchasing a car can be daunting, especially when one doesn’t have prior experience to car buying. Well, fret not! BMW group has recently revealed an augmented reality app in collaboration with Accenture. Under Google’s new standard for augmented reality device, Project Tango, potential car buyers can now view the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 or BMW i3 right on their phones. You will then be able to specify and take a virtual interactive tour of these cars. “We know that our customers are busy people and that we need to fit into their lives,” said Andrea Castronovo, BMW Group Vice President, Sales Strategy and Future Retail. “We are delighted that customers can now explore our products in a truly interactive and fun way, whenever and wherever it suits them. Such heighted reality apps could soon be the norm for people in the market for a new vehicle, especially one that comes with a premium price tag. They’re often built to order and so the only way to get a sense of what the car would be like when completed is to explore it virtually. BMW first demonstrated the app in conceptual form at the 2017 CES in January, and for the past month it has been in testing at a number of BMW dealerships in Europe. “During our pilot, people had great fun exploring the car, even ducking down their heads as if there really were a roof there,” Castronovo said. “It’s that level of detail which means this technology offers the customers real added value.” The app is now available to download via Google Play for European consumers while BMW fans in Japan and the US will have to wait until April.

CHIC SPACE TRAVEL

Elon Musk Presents Bonkers

Mars Mission

SpaceX chief and visionary billionaire Elon Musk unveiled this week

ambitious (we call it bonkers) plans to establish a Mars colony within a decade or so. Briefly, Musk thinks this is possible if we send 100 humans at a time on massive spacecraft, possibly costing as low as $100,000 per person. Yes, that’s the low estimate because by conventional NASA standards, using current technologies, it will cost $10 billion per person. This is why we normally think of space tourism as the most expensive form of travel known to humans. Taking the stage under a large globe of Mars at the International Astronautical Congress, Musk showed his vision for a giant rocket that would propel people to the Red Planet “in our lifetime.” “We need to go from these early exploration missions to actually building a city,” he said to an overflow crowd at an expo center in the western Mexican city of Guadalajara. Musk showed a futuristic video depicting his concept of an interplanetary transport system based on reusable rockets, a propellant farm on Mars and 1,000 spaceships on orbit, carrying about 100 people each. The spacecraft would have a restaurant, cabins, zero-gravity games and movies. “It has to be fun or exciting. It can’t feel cramped or boring,” he said. Musk later told reporters he was “optimistic” that the first human mission could leave Earth in 2024 and arrive on the Red Planet the following year.

Before that, SpaceX plans to send an unmanned Dragon cargo capsule to Mars as early as 2018. The South Africa-born Canadian-American entrepreneur said the plan would require a “huge public-private partnership,” but he did not announce any alliance with a government agency. The first flight would be expensive but the aim is “making this affordable to almost anyone who wants to go,” by dropping the price of a ticket over time from $200,000 to $100,000, Musk said. “You can’t create a self-sustaining civilization on Mars if the ticket price is $10 billion per person,” he said. It could also be deadly. “I think the first trips to Mars are going to be really, very dangerous. The risk of fatality will be high. There is just no way around it,” he said. “It would basically be, ‘Are you prepared to die?’ Then if that’s ok, then you are a candidate for going.” While SpaceX was hit by a setback on September 1 when its Falcon 9 rocket, after several successful missions and vertical landings, exploded on the launch pad during a test in Florida, Musk said “this is just a small thing on a long road.” SpaceX is not alone in aspiring to travel to Mars. The US space agency NASA, which is studying the effects of long-term space flight on the human body, has announced its own plans to send people to Mars by the 2030s. Blue Origin, a company founded by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, also envisions a Mars mission, but decades from now. Costly, challenging Experts warn that reaching Mars – 225 million kilometers (140 million miles) from Earth on average – and living there requires major engineering feats and a massive budget. John Logsdon, professor emeritus at George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute, said Musk’s presentation was “long on vision, short on detail.”

Musk did not explain in detail how he would get the “billions of dollars that would be required to put the vision into reality.” The plan also faces technical challenges, such as refueling in orbit, which has never been done, and building fuel depots on Mars. Chris Carberry, chief executive of Explore Mars Inc, a non-profit promoting the goal of sending humans to the planet within two decades, said a mission of just three to six people would cost between $80 billion and $120 billion. Musk’s presentation is “very inspiring, aspirational, but I think it’s going to be very challenging to be able to accomplish this in 10 years.” “I think it’s probably more likely we’re going to send a smaller mission to first figure out if people can live on Mars before we send 100 people there at a time,” he said. Musk said the rocket would take a spaceship into orbit, release it and land back on Earth to pick up a fuel tanker, which it would fly to the craft to fuel its journey to Mars. The trip would one day take as little as three months, or even less than one month. Once on Mars, humans would have to install a plant to produce propellant by using the planet’s methane resources to fuel the spacecraft for its return to Earth. Space competition SpaceX has achieved engineering breakthroughs, notably by successfully landing the Falcon 9 upright, which could cust space travel costs by making rockets reusable. Blue Origin has also built a rocket that lands vertically and is working on a taller launcher called New Glenn, but the company is focusing on sending people to Earth’s low orbit for now.

“We want to have millions of people living and working in space in a decades timeframe if they want to ~ Blue Origin president Rob Meyerson~

JOINS FORCES WITH REEBOK TO TELL NEXT PHASE OF BE MORE HUMAN CAMPAIGN

Global icon stands behind brand platform to reject expectations of perfection through #PerfectNever movement

G

igi Hadid, style icon, fitness advocate and trendsetter, joins Reebok’s community of inspiring women as the newest face of the brand’s #PerfectNever movement; a powerful and inspirational call to action that asks women around the world to celebrate the beauty of imperfection and champions

Reebok’s intrinsic message of self-betterment. Together, Gigi and Reebok will challenge women to use physical fitness as an escape to drown out all of the negativity that surrounds them by deploying the three-point principles of the Reebok delta that puts forth the social, physical and mental benefits of fitness. As an international supermodel Hadid is no stranger to the pressures of perfection placed on women, living under the constant scrutiny of a global audience of critics. It is through fitness that Hadid has found her tranquility. “Working out isn’t only physical for me. It’s mental. It helps me escape the noise in my head. It’s the only time my mind goes quiet.” shares Hadid. “When I was a competitive athlete, I used to be so focused on being perfect that my coaches would take me out of competing all together. I’d focus on my mistakes which would breed more missteps - a domino effect. Until I learned to change the channel, to re-focus, re-set. It was my mistakes, my imperfections that motivated me most.” Learning to “change the channel” and take control, Hadid discovered that it was in fact these failures and setbacks that helped her improve – accepting them and using them as motivation to better herself. Hadid will now work with Reebok to motivate women to accept their own setbacks and imperfections by embracing their inner strength, grit and determination. Praising Gigi’s influence on women and women’s fashion in particular, Corinna Werkle, General Manager of the Training Business Unit at Reebok states, “Gigi is setting the standards of modern style across the world; her ability to fuse fashion and fitness together inspires people globally. The fashion icon constantly pushes the boundaries by not being afraid to take risks and be different. Working with Reebok, Gigi will empower women by challenging them to express themselves to the fullest through bold, fearless style and to be confident enough to embrace their uniqueness.” Reebok’s partnership with Hadid marks the second phase in the #PerfectNever movement’s chapter. Led by a powerful campaign video featuring athlete Ronda Rousey. The poignant video captured Rousey at her most raw and real, as she shattered the illusions of perfection and empowered women to be the best version of themselves through embracing and learning from their imperfections.’

“Working out isn’t only physical for me. It’s mental. It helps me espcat the noise in my heads. It’s the only time my mind goes quiet. “ Shares Hadid

Joyce Rey

CM - Where are you from?

for 2 years and truly had a lot to learn.

JOYCE - I was born in Hollywood and raised in Santa Ana, CA.

CM - How do you keep your clients happy?

CM - What attracted you to real estate?

JOYCE - I keep my clients happy by always placing their best interest first and constantly working to exceed their expectations.

JOYCE - : I was attracted to real estate because I loved house hunting. It also looked easy. Because I have a Master’s Degree in Business Education from USC, I was well prepared. CM - Who was your first mentor, and how did they influence you? JOYCE - I had two mentors, Jack Hupp, an All American basketball star from USC and President of the Chamber of Commerce who also wrote the first Code of Ethics for the Board of Realtors at the time.. Jack Hupp had an incredible smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He was always a dignified professional Realtor and fair minded. The other was former California Governor Edmund (Pat) Brown, who had a heart of gold and devoted himself to public service. Pat Brown was interested in everyone and everything, placing great importance on current events and the Golden Rule. Although neither of them are with us today, I hope they would both be proud of me. CM - What were your yearly sales for 2016? Forecast for 2017? JOYCE - Team Yearly Sales average $300 million. CM - What is your most memorable deal? JOYCE - My most memorable deal was probably my first million-dollar transaction in 1976 when I sold the famed Sonny and Cher mansion (now titled Owlwood) in Holmby hills for $1.2M, a record breaking sale at the time. I had only been in the business

CM - When you have a big meeting, what fashion brands do you wear to the meeting? JOYCE -I love them all, but to name a few fashion brands that I wear to a big meeting, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Gorgio Armani, Vince, Brunello Cucinelli, Celine, and Lora Piano are frequently worn. CM - In Your opinion, What make LA one of the best places to live? JOYCE - In my opinion, most everyone will of course say the weather is what makes LA one of the best places to live, but I love the lifestyle in general. Easy access to the beach, desert, mountains, and the Hollywood community for my love of film are what makes LA the place to be. Additionally, the outdoor lifestyle, the abundance of fabulous restaurants, and our incredible cultural life, including our wonderful museums, theatres, concert halls, and sporting events are fantastic! CM - Tell us about your favorite current listing on the market right now? JOYCE - Every one of my listings are my favorite. Go to JoyceRey.com CM - Where can we find you on Friday night? JOYCE - On a Friday night, you can find me out to dinner with friends at a first run movie, a cultural event, at a Clipper game, or hosting a dinner party in my home.

Hillary Stevens

CM - Where are you from? HILARY - I grew up close to UCLA which is in Westwood Village. The neighborhood is called Little Holmby. The community was developed in the late 1920s and early 30s. Today it is a lovely mix of older homes and some fabulous new builds. There is a real small town feel with a 4th of July parade and picnic, and lots of activities around Warner Ave. Elementary. CM- What attracted you to real estate? HILARY - Between business school and working in brand management and advertising, I’d spent nearly 20 years in NYC when 9/11 happened. Corporate life wasn’t really for me and that was my wake-up call. I was trying to figure out what was next when my Dad suggested residential real estate. He thought it would use my business, client service and design skills and was the perfect fit. He was right. CM What is your most memorable deal? HILARY - Many deals are memorable for different reasons. One of the most satisfying was one of the smallest deals I’ve ever done. It was one of my first deals and the clients were first time buyers. The condo was a stretch financially for them. There was a bidding war and some other complications, but they were so excited, relieved and grateful when it closed. Helping them find

and close on their dream home was so gratifying. CM- When you have a big meeting, what fashion brands do you wear? After all the years in the black suit uniform, I enjoy mixing it up and not wearing suits. So, I choose pieces by Armani, Dolce Gabbana, Alice and Olivia, See by Chloe, St John. CM. Tell us about your favorite style of architecture? HILARY- I started my real estate career in Westport, CT where I specialized in Historic and Antique Properties. So I gravitate to the revival styles of the 1920s and 30s. I grew up in a Ralph Flewelling Spanish Revival. I love the textures of the materials and the craftsmanship these homes have. In fact, I’m looking for one to restore for myself. CM-. In your opinion, what makes LA one of the best places to live? HILARY- As a native Angeleno with 20 years on the east coast, I can definitively say it is the weather. It’s also my hometown, which makes it different from any other city. No matter how many years you live somewhere, it’s not the same as “home.” CM-. Where can we find you on Friday night? HILARY - Dodger stadium and I always stay for the fireworks.

Stephanie Spencer CM - Where are you from? STEPHANIE - Orange County California, is where I grew up. It’s the land of strawberry fields, orange groves, beaches and Disneyland! CM - What attracted you to real estate? STEPHANIE - I’ve been in real estate vicariously all my life. My step mother and Aunt were the “dynamite duo” selling homes in North Orange County. My husband, Tom Tellefsen, is a commercial real estate developer. So it was only natural progression for me to join the successful team of Joyce Rey! CM - How do you keep your clients happy? STEPHANIE - Clients are friends to me and I’m am dedicated to delivering luxurious, complete full service. I want my clients to know I’ve got their back. With my legal background negotiations on their behalf are second nature. CM - When you have a big meeting, What fashion brands to you wear to the meeting? STEPHANIE - I love fashion! How could anyone go wrong in wearing Dolce and Gabbana - anytime and anywhere!

CM - In Your opinion, What makes LA one of the best places to live? STEPHANIE - Los Angeles and especially where I live in the Rivera Palisades offers everything anyone could possibly desire. Our climate is the greatest! We have mountains, beaches;,great places to walk your dogs and outdoor areas to exercise. If culture is what you want there are numerous museums, performing art centers and the creativity and business of the entertainment industry. We have the RAMS plus Clippers, Lakers, Dodgers and Kings. The energy and vibrancy of the city is so expressive and exciting. The research conducted by our universities is cutting edge in medical, environmental and social issues. Providing answers so that we may all live a longer better life. Those are just a few reasons why I love LA. CM - Where can we find you on Friday night? STEPHANIE - At a party, dinner with friends or at the Bel Air Bay Club. Depending on the season, it could be at the ballet or a live performance. If it’s show season at a dressage competition.

Stephen Apelian

CM - Where are you from? STEPHEN -Born and raised in Los Angeles CM- What attracted you to real estate? STEPHEN - My father was a builder and as soon as I could hold a hammer I was under his thumb. I’ve always had a love for architecture and construction and after flipping 12 homes as a General Contractor between 1999 and 2009 (plus building dozens of others as contract jobs), I decided to get my sales license in 2010. In 2011 I was named Coldwell Banker’s “Rookie of the Year”. CM- Who was your first mentor, and how did they influence you? STEPHEN -My first mentor, of course, was my father. He awakened in me the love of homes and architecture. But in real estate, Joyce Rey is my first and most appreciated mentor. She has taught me how to run a successful business and to always put the needs of my clients first. I would never have accomplished so much without her. CM- What were your yearly sales for 2016? Forecast for 2017? STEPHEN-Team Yearly Sales average $300 million CM - What is your most memorable deal? STEPHEN. There are actually

2 deals: Selling the most expensive house in Beverly Hills south of Sunset Blvd for new construction ever and, selling 1120 Westchester Place, the Alfred Rosenheim estate. The seller went through 9 agents in 11 years before I was able to sell it for her. CM-. How do you keep your clients happy? STEPHEN- Constant communication, fast response time, precise knowledge of the market, and expert negotiation skills CM- Tell us about your favorite current listing on the market right now? SEPHEN- 3100 Benedict Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills. Brand new construction in about 11500 square feet on an acre and a half with complete privacy and beautiful views. www.villagrandebellezza.com www.StephenApelian.com CM- Where can we find you on Friday night? SEPHEN- If I don’t have an event, I’m always home to have dinner with my family and put my kids to bed.

Denise Hamilton CM - Where are you from? DENISE-The land of horses and basketball...Louisville, Kentucky CM - What attracted you to real estate? DENISE - Architecture. The play of light and form and space and how we live in and interact with it. I think it is fascinating the way spaces take on a secondary life that we breathe into them with human movement, the breath of family and friends. CM - Who was your first mentor, and how did they influence you? DENISE - Everyone along the way has mentored me, often without their knowing. I worked for a developer who brought me into a house that hadn’t been touched in 60 years. It was overrun with dozens of feral cats, the carpet blackened from foot traffic on top of spills. It had discolored walls and ashtrays loaded with cigarette butts. She asked “What do you see?” To this day, I remember the smell and the bleakness of that place and my first thought was how intrinsically we desire openness and light. That was a moment of new awareness for me, because her question inspired me to ask, over and over with every new property and essentially with everything. What can I create here? CM - How do you keep your clients happy?

DENISE-With absolute integrity, give them what they want, which is often intuitive and unspoken. CM -When you have a big meeting, What fashion brands to you wear to the meeting? DENISE-IIt’s really about quality and assembling a look that informs who I am. I lean towards an elegant, refined and edgy look that most importantly has an ease and a stylistic blend of culture and gender. CM - In Your opinion, What make LA one of the best places to live? DENISE - The possibilities. The topography and the ever changing light. The composition of the people and the place and the continuously flowing art and diversity. The sprawl. When I turn north onto La Cienega and see the houses notched into the hillside, it always takes my breath away. The magic of Laurel Canyon, the views from the Bird Streets, the mid century architecture in Trousdale, the proximity of the ocean, the silhouettes of the hills and the mountains. Ultimately for me, Los Angeles is a place of infinite possibilities and freedom. CM - Where can we find you on Friday night? Only the NSA knows

Timothy Di Prizito

CM - Where are you from?

TIMOTHY-I grew up in a small

coastal town on the southern New Jersey shoreline, and in my opinion, the most beautiful part of New Jersey. The southern New Jersey beach towns became popular by Philadelphian’s in the early 1900’s who would escape the heat and humidity to cool off at the “Shore”. CM- What attracted you to real estate? TIMOHY-I once had a dream home building project in 8th grade, which included drafting a floor plan and then building a model home out of balsa wood. It took a whole semester to complete but I absolutely loved it. It’s my love of art and architecture with strong communication and marketing skills that attracted me to Real Estate. CM- Who was your first mentor, and how did they influence you? TIMOTHY-My Father. He came from a tragic beginning losing his mother at a young age. Fighting through the adversity, he became a schoolteacher and coached many youth sports. He was driven and disciplined and taught me how to set goals while creating strategies to achieve them. CM - What is your most memorable deal? TIMOTHY - My most memorable deal was also my least expensive deal closed. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to an older

gentleman who had spent his life renting. He had finally saved enough money and advanced up in his job to qualify for a loan. Though later in life and never too late, we covered the entire Los Angeles area and found his dream home. There wasn’t a dry eye at closing. CM-. How do you keep your clients happy? TIMOTHY- My Grandfather, Arthur Compagnola was a hard working humble man who drove a bread truck. He loved life and had a way to put humor into everything he did. It was his essence of looking at the bright side of things and always staying positive that rubbed off on me. I am a consummate professional but try to keep it light and positive. Life is short and I love to help everyone I can with a smile. CM- In your opinion, what makes LA one of the best places to live? TIMOTHY- In Los Angeles one can dream big… and live the dream. It’s simple really, if you can dream it and then dedicate yourself to pursue something, anything is possible in LA. CM- Tell us about your favorite current listing on the market right now? TIMOTHY- Architectural Digest Design estate in verdant Benedict Canyon re-imagined from the ground up $3.85M. Or a Gorgeous Newly Constructed 4 unit Condominium building in Beverly Hills with units starting at $2.8 to $3.4M

Christopher Damon CM - Where are you from? CHRISTOPHER- Born in England. Grew up in Los Angeles CM - What attracted you to real estate? CHRISTOPHER - Everything. I love all aspects of real estate. Design, Development, Deal Making. I was first introduced to real estate when I bought my first home at 24 years old. I kept buying investment properties and it snowballed from there. I’m a lifetime student of real estate and Los Angeles.

but with all hands on deck, we pulled it together and closed. Three weeks later, the buyer decided he didn’t want to be in LA anymore and put the home back on the market. Basically, he bought an expensive short-term vacation rental. CM - When you have a big meeting, what fashion brands do you wear? CHRISTOPHER-Fruit of the Loom. CM -Tell us about your favorite style of architecture?

CHRISTOPHER - My godfather, Phil Caldwell. He has an incredible business mind and has helped me every step of the way through my career. I’m lucky and grateful to have him by my side.

CHRISTOPHER- All of them. Architecture is like music, it depends on the mood you want to feel and create. Every type of property and piece of land lends itself to different styles. I’m drawn to view properties which matches well with modern design. It happens to be one of my favorite styles at this time.

CM - What is your most memorable deal?

CM - In Your opinion, What make LA one of the best places to live?

CHRISTOPHER - A beautiful new construction home in Beverly Hills that we sold for $13,650,000. We received multiple offers on the property. One of the buyers had family coming into town that weekend and wanted to close by the time they arrived - in 4 days! The buyer was from England and had decided this would be his LA home. We accepted the offer. The heat was on. It was clear to me that if this buyer did not close by the 4th day they would pull out of the deal. As we moved close to the finish line, emotions were high. Several issues had come up during the week. It did not seem as though the deal would happen

CHRISTOPHER- I’ve travelled to many countries and cities and I’m always asking myself if I would want to live anywhere else. The answer is always “no.” I love LA. It has so many things to offer from glamorous to gritty, urban to suburban, mountains to ocean to desert. You could spend a lifetime in LA (which I have) and still be discovering new things all the time

CM - Who was your first mentor, and how did they influence you?

CM - Where can we find you on Friday night? Hanging with my wife and little girl enjoying our home by the beach.

CHIC CELEBRITY LISTING EDITORS PICK NEW YORK

MEG RYAN’S GORGEOUS SOHO LOFT!

Photo Credit: Meg Ryan - The Corcoran Group

F

rom a jock hangout to one of the most sophisticated and dramatic apartments in New York’s Soho neighborhood, interior designer and actress Meg Ryan has done it again. Having purchased the bachelor pad from The Simpsons’ Hank Azaria in 2014, Meg had the ability to visually block out the massive gym, animal skins thrown over dining room chairs, too much 70’s shag carpeting and imagine how rooms could be repurposed and restructured. She identified the bones and how they could be adjusted to get the best flow for today’s lifestyle. Featured multiple times in both Architectural Digest and Elle Decor for the nine homes she has decorated, Meg’s sense of style has been recognized by the best in the business. She told Architectural Digest that her enthusiasm for interior decorating comes from the need to express herself rather than a character in a film that expresses someone else’s vision. Encompassing a full floor of a converted Soho warehouse, the 4,100-square-foot loft co-op has three bedrooms, three baths and is accessed by a key-lock elevator. Some of the pre-war details include a long entry gallery bathed in light from the large windows spanning the space, seven architectural columns, 12-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling French doors. Meg added a Victorian decorative fireplace in the dining room and the original narrow-board wood floors have been refinished with an ebony stain. Prior to the onset of actual decorating, Meg repurposed and reconfigured much of the loft such as enlarging the kitchen, reconfiguring the new master suite which was previously the huge gym, switched out the dining room that had formerly been the master bedroom, resized bathrooms and added a plethora of closets, storage and built-ins. After being completely gutted and built out, Meg went with a sophisticated city theme of dark color, contrasting textures and a glass wall with French doors between the living room and dining room. Brick walls were left exposed in the media room. The new open and airy kitchen is stocked with high-end appliances and leans toward more French design. Meg Ryan, America’s sweetheart in When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and director of Fan Girl and Ithaca, has put her elegant Soho loft on the market priced at $10.9 million. The listing agent is Barbara Hochhauser, Associate Broker with The Corcoran Group.

Chic Real Estate New York

DYNAMIC DUO Tom Postilio & Mickey Conlon

NEW YORK is hands down one of the hardest places to be on top of the industry. Not for Tom & Mickey! Read our Chic Real Estate interview with them.

Where are you from? What attracted you to New York? Tom: I grew up in Ozone Park, Queens, but moved to Long Island with my family as a teenager. When I was 14 years old, my parents took me to see my hero, Frank Sinatra, at Carnegie Hall. That sealed the deal on my love affair with the greatest city in the world. Mickey: I was raised on Long Island, too, but even from an early age I knew I would wind up living and working in New York. I can’t imagine living anyplace else.

What attracted you to real estate? Tom: After touring the world as a singer in my past life, I grew weary of packing and unpacking, living gig to gig. I was at a point in my life where I wanted to put down roots, and a friend in the business suggested that I get my real estate license. When I asked him if New York really needed another real estate broker, he replied that there’s always room for a good one. The rest is history! Mickey: I grew up in a real estate family, so it was always in my blood. In my freshman year in college, I was considering a summer job and my mom suggested that I get my real estate license. I did, and found a fabulous broker who specialized in historic properties to sponsor me. Along the way I explored other pursuits, but real estate had a magnetic pull on me. It was meant to be.

Who was your first mentor, and how did he or she influence you? Tom: The friend I mention above who suggested I get my real estate license is none other than the current CEO of NYC for Douglas Elliman, Steven James. He is among the most respected members of the community and I am forever thankful to him for reaching out a hand to me at a time in my life when I needed some guidance. It’s been the most unbelievable and amazing journey! Mickey: I suppose my first mentor in real estate was my mother, who still takes credit for everything I know. By the time I was about nine years old, I had developed an encyclopedic knowledge of the local real estate market, including data points on architects of note, as well as the lineage of each property. My mom encouraged my peculiar childhood pursuit, and I can’t help but wonder if I’d be in the business today without that foundation.

What is your most memorable deal? Tom: When we took over the listing of an Upper West Side townhouse, we raised the price from $9M to $12M and achieved a record-breaking $11M sale of the property, which was the highest price per square foot ever achieved in this highly desirable neighborhood. Mickey: A quaint townhouse listing in a tiny Tribeca enclave was in estate condition, untouched since the early 1970s. Through a targeted PR campaign and strategic showing schedule, we were able to orchestrate an unprecedented bidding war. After nearly 100 people poured through the house, we quickly capitalized on the visible interest and momentum. 13 offers came in, and with careful handling, we were able to achieve a record price for this property — 47% above the asking price!

Tell us about your top listing right now? Tom: We don’t play favorites with our listings, but the one that is getting the most attention is a $16 million penthouse in Soho, which is a truly one-of-a-kind property. Mickey: It gained a lot of exposure late last year when Heidi Klum hosted her Halloween pre-party there. The photos from the event are pretty outrageous, and quite a souvenir for the purchaser of this stunner.

Where do you live? Tom: We live in Midtown near Central Park. It’s the most spectacularly convenient location — we walk almost everywhere! Mickey: We’re also building a house on the North Shore of Long Island, as a place to add punctuation to our busy lives.

What is your formula for keeping your high-end and or/high-profile clients happy? Tom: Accessibility, knowledge, dedication, and discretion. Mickey: I’d add humor to that list. Buying and selling can be a very harrowing process, but a little laughter goes a long way toward diffusing a stressful situation.

Tell us one thing most people wouldn’t know about you? Tom: As I kid I was miserable at anything related to sports. So, in order to participate, I used my strength with numbers to organize the stats and keep scores, batting averages and the like for all of my friends in the neighborhood. I was also the umpire and therefore not always the most popular kid on the block! Mickey: I wasn’t born wearing a bow tie. It sprouted from my neck slightly later in life.

Where are your favorite vacation destinations? Tom: Anyplace where we can turn off our phones and other distractions for a few days. We don’t have much time for vacations, but we try to make it count when we can. Mickey: Quality time away is important for our mental health. Last Christmas we went off the grid for four days at The Point, a boutique resort in the Adirondacks. It’s about the closest thing to heaven one can experience.

Where would we find you on a Saturday Night? Tom: We’re on the town nearly every night of the week. Saturdays are our unofficial day off, so we typically like to lay low. Mickey: Nothing is more relaxing than to lounge around reading a book, sipping a cocktail, and preparing a home-cooked meal. Sigh. Is it Saturday yet?’

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Lake Buena Vista, Fla 91

I would like to preface the official announcement of our Chic Travel Special on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida by taking a moment to recognize the man behind all of the magic, Mr. Walt Disney. One of the attributes I most admire about him was his vision to create a special place for families and individuals of all ages to come together. I enjoyed not only my experience at the park, but learning more about the life and legacy of Walt Disney as well. Now, for our Chic readers, we present an exclusive preview of what’s now, what’s new, and what is still to come! I was invited to visit the Walt Disney World Resort to write an editorial on the many unique and luxurious amenities that are specially tailored to our Chic readers. I would like to begin by stating that Disney has a VIP team that is both experienced and dedicated to providing the finest level of guest service.

Real Estate Yes, it is true that you now have the opportunity to live in The Most Magical Place On Earth by purchasing custombuilt luxury residences at Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort! Personally, I was expecting these homes to resemble something you may see in Tomorrowland or one of the other exciting themed lands at Disney. I was certainly not let down when I arrived at Golden Oak, a private, gated community that features luxury one-of-a-kind homes that start at $2 million. Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort was created as a home away from home; an opulent retreat in which to enjoy quality time with grandparents and children for a few weeks out of the year to catch up and create new memories during vacations or holidays. However, up to 40% of residents live at Golden Oak year round, so these estates are suitable for a variety of preferences.

You may be surprised to learn that Golden Oak residents have access to the brand new, 444- room, $370 million Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort. On the premises you will find all manner of amenities, including an 18-hole champion golf course, an adults-only pool, a full-service spa, and an exclusive rooftop steakhouse that provides incredible views of the nightly fireworks at Walt Disney World. In addition to the amenities available through the Four Seasons Resort Orlando, Golden Oak affords you a homewithin-a-luxury-hotel feel complete with a personal concierge, the Club Member Services team, that will book tickets to Walt Disney World, schedule VIP tours, assist in arranging dinners parties, tee times, spa appointments, and even provide private transportation to any of the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks or water parks. They can even arrange for babysitting.

Entertainment - VIP Tours With Walt Disney World Resort’s VIP tours you can avoid the lines and large crowds to enjoy an unparalleled park experience. The official Disney World Private Premium VIP tours are available for $400-$600 per hour, with a seven-hour minimum required, keeping optional gratuities in mind. Disney offers a variety of VIP tours including; the Ultimate Day of Thrills VIP Tour for older children and groups interested in getting the most in excitement and thrills! Walt Disney World Resort’s VIP Tour Services introduces a new four-hour immersion into the classic attractions found at The Magic Kingdom in their new Ultimate Disney Classics VIP Tour premiering later this month! I was able to enjoy all of the top thrill rides at Walt Disney World and one of the best parts of my experience was being able to bypass the long lines, by enjoying the unlimited usage of the FastPass+ return queues. I was even able to enjoy the same ride only 10 minutes after my first concluded. My favorite attraction was Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I must say there is certainly no better way to begin your day! In addition to expedited entry to FastPass+ attractions, the VIP Tour Services Booking Team can help you in planning your entire vacation, from advising you on the best accommodations to meet your needs to meal options. Think of them as a full-service concierge for a spectacular getaway.

The Finest Luxury Hotel Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is about as regal as it gets when it comes to accommodations within Walt Disney World. You will feel as if you have stepped into the past when exploring the five-story lobby with a style inspired by The Victorian era. This exciting and inspired decor may also be found in one of the many guest rooms. Some of the perks of staying at the Grand Floridian are such activities as afternoon tea and enjoying live piano performances in the lobby. Additionally, families can enjoy such experiences as having breakfast with their favorite Disney characters.

Chic Editor’s Pick of the most enjoyable activity: Disney’s Perfectly Princess Tea Party inside the Garden View Tea Room.

What’s New Disney has created some incredibly creative and fun accommodations with their Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, the newest portion of the Disney Vacation Club property at Walt Disney World Resort. They each feature two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sleeping room for eight. In addition, you can experience a private deck that features an individual plunge pool along with a full kitchen and a beautiful view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Chic Editor’s Pick of best thing to do: Have your VIP Tour Guide help you book a private dessert & wine party. You can enjoy a catered event while spending time with family or friends or watching the fireworks above the park.

Chic Editor’s tips for adults: Cirque du Soleil -La Nouba and STK Steakhouse at Disney Springs. I especially recommend STK Steakhouse for an amazing dinner.

Chic Editor’s adventure: I recommend the Wild Africa Trek, where one can witness exotic wildlife up close and personal while on a private guided VIP expedition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

What’s coming: We could easily write another 50 pages about all of the incredible happenings that will be showcased at Walt Disney World Resort. Here are a few items we thought we would highlight:

1. Golden Oak residences are selling incredibly fast, and more residences are in the works to keep up with the demand. 2. Disney is already in the process of constructing two massive themed lands, a Star Wars themed land and ‘ ‘Pandora – The World of Avatar’. 3. A steampunk-themed nightclub that will offer classic cocktails, dining, and exciting entertainment, the Edison at Disney Springs, is slated to open in the Spring of 2017. Crave more Disney luxury? Be sure to book a private fireworks cruise and have your vessel stocked with bubbly. Dreams do indeed come true!

White Desert Hotel Reopen

Antarctica

Luxury can be found in some of the most unexpected places, including Antarctica, which for the last 10 years has played host to an outpost of the high life called White Desert. Here you’ll find heated domes, fur throw blankets, gourmet meals and once-in-a-lifetime encounters with Emperor penguins.

To mark its 10th anniversary, the White Desert hotel in Antarctica has undergone a complete overhaul in its ongoing quest to bring a dash of upscale creature comforts to a place devoid of even the basics. The aforementioned heated dome pods shelter guests from the bitter cold (it is a balmy 15 °C, maximum), sleep them in plush double beds, and serve up gourmet meals prepared by a professional chef who cooks for a Formula 1 team when she’s not in the Antarctic.

Sleeping Pods at the White Desert Antarctica It is of course quite a feat to try to import luxury to a place that can legitimately be called the middle of nowhere. But dining chairs are warmed by fur throws, beds are backed by decorative fabric and bamboo headboards, floors are hardwood, and amenities such as hot showers, sustainable toiletries and writing desks help guests temporarily forget that they’re at the edge of the world. Not that you ever want to forget that you are living beyond the edge of what is possible for humans. Items for the refurbishment were flown in from Cape Town but what is more impressive is what they fly out of Antarctica, to keep the place pristine. The White Desert hotel claims to have zero impact on the environment there, which means it takes some pretty extreme measures. All structures are temporary and waste of all sorts is flown away from the continent, including human waste of course. Most of the power to keep things running here is from renewable sources and the company is an accredited CarbonNeutral venture. Even before it underwent its makeover, the property’s uniqueness has also attracted the likes of Prince Harry and Bear Grylls.

A dining Room at White Desert Antarctica Activities in this final frontier include ice climbing, trekking the otherworldly landscape, exploring ice caves, visits to the Geographic South Pole – the lowest point on earth – and encounters with colonies of Emperor penguins. Thousands of them. The hotel debuts its new look in November and, given that Antarctica is supposedly the latest destination of choice for the well-heeled. Due to harsh weather conditions, it is only open for two months, November and December.

LUXURY HOLIDAY RENTALS: Airbnb now proviades luxurious vacation accommodation options with concierge services

As a veteran in the market for budget-friendly alternatives to hotels, Airbnb diversifies in its latest acquisition of Luxury Retreats

Comfort? Check. Affordability? Check. Airbnb has long

been a crowd favourite, offering short-term vacation rentals as the budget-friendly alternative to hotels. The company is reaching out to yet another demographic, expanding its offerings to include luxury retreatsthat come with concierge services. The news comes following the company’s acquisition of Montreal-based vacation rental company Luxury Retreats, which lists 4,000 homes in 100 destinations around the world. Listings are upscale properties that may include a villa in Tuscany or a seaside retreat in the Turks and Caicos. While Airbnb’s existing database includes everything from treehouse lodgings to boats and castles, the acquisition is meant to expand Airbnb’s clientele from budget-conscious tourists to wealthier globetrotters for whom money is seldom an object. “From airbeds in an apartment to castles to villas, Airbnb has always been focused on providing a broad range of amazing experiences and trips,” said co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky in a statement. “I have spent countless hours with Joe [Poulin, Luxury Retreats CEO] and his team and seen firsthand their passion for delivering amazing hospitality and unforgettable experiences in spectacular places around the world. They share our values and I’m excited to work with the Luxury Retreats team to serve more travellers.” In the short-term, Luxury Retreats will continue operations as a standalone entity and remain headquartered in Montreal. The listings will gradually be integrated into Airbnb. Earlier this month, another accommodation site AccorHotels also announced plans to acquire an elite travel broker representing luxury villas around the world. The acquisition of private rental platformTravel Keys would be the latest addition to the group, which also includes private vacation rental services like onefinestay and Squarebreak. This goes to show the widening reach that rental sites similar to Airbnb are gaining in the accommodation and travel industry.

Chic Resort & Spa - Sausalito, California

Cavallo Point & Lodge

O

ur Chic Metropolitan Travel Editor has been jetsetting all over the World. She continues to hear about a luxury hotel that has been noted as one of the #5 U.S Top Resorts in the U.S – Travel + Leisure/ and top #75 U.S Hotel Spas: Cavallo Point Lodge! Cavallo Point invited our Chic Metropolitan Travel Editor to do a 2 day stay and check it out in person. Cavallo Point is a special place. It’s set in historic Fort Baker, a 350-arce national park in the town of Sausalito, just below the Golden Gate Bridge outside of San Francisco. The lodge has 17 colonial renovated buildings that have red roofs and covered porches. Spread throughout the grounds are a slew of Adirondack chairs and pine, eucalyptus and cypress trees which make the whole place smell terrific. The buildings are arranged in a horseshoe shape around a huge green field with a flagpole in the center. Most of the historic buildings are restored officers’ quarters, which are the size of houses. These have sixty-eight rooms in total, with an additional 74 contemporary rooms in several tasteful modern structures above the main buildings on a hillside. All are very private and serene.

Travel Editor , or not, this will be added to anyones list of favorite Hotels due to the specular Views. The Golden Gate bridge is essentially in your backyard. I don’t care how much stress you have in your life or what is going on, once you set foot on the grounds of Cavallo Point, you immediately RELAX. They have two different types of rooms – Historic and contemporary I stayed in the contemporary. It is unfair to match my room at Cavallo Point against others. Right outside my window was the historic and beautiful Golden Gate Bridge. I didn’t even want to watch tv. One of my favorite things to do was drink some coffee out on the deck and look at the magnificent bridge. (Not all rooms have views of the Golden Gate Bridge. You have to request it). Each room has plenty of space, heated floors, and an amazing bed with a deep soaking tub. You will feel like you are sleeping on a cloud, especially after a bath in the deep tub. Organic locally sourced lotions and bath gel, as well as organic juice snacks, and local Napa wine come as a complementary gift in each room. Now lets speak about the Food and Wine! The Food is so good that locals say its one of their favorite dinners. I felt like I was eating at a restaurant back in history. Make sure to save room for the Desert!

One thing that California is known for is the Wine. Cavalo Point stepped it up and got the one of the best wine lists in the U.S. The restaurant has over 2,000 bottle options and 50 wines by the glass. Their wine cellar is one of California’s deepest and most divers claims it showcases local treasures combined with the best vintages of Europe’s top estates. Now lets speak about Cavallo Spa. It has been crowed #5 spa in the U.S. It has over 11,000 square feet. All guest have access to the Healing Arts Center & Spa, which includes a gym, warm basking pool, steam room and a tea bar that serves health snacks and smoothies. There are 11 treatment rooms and a wide variety of treatments. I had their signature one-hour massage which blends several techniquests: and almost made me fall asleep. This hidden gem is waiting for you to come relax. Now on the market for USD 3.9 million, the property was intended as Sinatra’s haven away from Hollywood, though it also served as an entertainment venue for some of the industry’s biggest stars. In particular, fellow members of the Rat Pack were hosted as frequent guests. With luxurious amenities like a private helipad, parking space for 24 cars, swimming pool and fire pit, and an outdoor dance floor, the property is certainly a party-perfect piece of Hollywood history.

Not one to shy away from indulgence, the best-selling artist has lavished his ultra-modern residence with a rooftop skate park, an outdoor pool overlooking the canal, a private dock on the property’s 120 feet of water frontage, and even a shark lagoon! Potential buyers and their families need not worry though, for the lagoon houses nurse sharks that are generally harmless to humans. Interesting and no doubt unique, the home is certainly a draw for families and entertaining.

Romance at the

RitzA dayCarlton to remember!

No matter the stage of your relationship, the

spark is special. Finding time for a second honeymoon, or even a weekend getaway, may be challenging but everyone can find time for a “day of play.” Even just one day away can improve your connection immensely. The Bay Area presents beautiful choices. Perhaps the best choice for the couples is the Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton. One day there offers the rejuvenation you might expect from a whole weekend. Activities include golfing on their beautiful golf course, whale watching, Segway tour, horseback riding, tennis or just relaxing in front of the fire pit. With a delicious buffet and amazing outdoor seaside view, you can just eat, lounge, catch up and still enjoying an amazing day. After our scenic 35 minute drive from San Francisco, we savored a lovely delicious lunch and followed by a spa adventure. There we received a warm welcome and introduction to the Roman Mineral Bath. It’s open to all genders, and swim suits are required. Advised to get there early before your treatments, we were happy we did. Warm and relaxed, my husband and I went into our separate treatment rooms. I chose for my treatment, the hot stone luxury water massage. First they scrub you all over with sea salt organic exfoliates. Then they place the warm stones down your spine and as the stress escapes your outof-body experience begins. Then I entered the man-made waterfall for the shower explosion: twelve shower heads coming from the ceiling cascaded water over me in luxurious torrents. All signs of stress were washed away with the sea salt, leaving just smooth even skin. After that I was thoroughly moisturized with oil, while the

masseuse massaged it into all of my muscles with a 45 minute massage. The professional, elite experienced masseuse I had has worked there for over five years and stood out from other traditional spa masseuses. Next the deluxe pedicure. They use unique products such as argan oil to relax your muscles and fresh sugar scrub made that morning for the exfoliation of your feet. Excellent foot massage, exfoliate paddle that works especially well (Ritz Brand only) and a perfect polish left my feet feeling brand new. The careful attention and exceptional service, definitely stand out: this is not your average spa day. Finishing with a guava bellini was a perfect end to the spa session. I met my husband outside and we both commented on how mellow we felt. We sipped wine and smelled the ocean breezes from our seat on the cliff, right in front of the firepit. Peacefully we held hands, smiled at each other, and celebrated our experience. Our “day away” vacation did the trick. I felt just as in love as I did on our first date. Unique watches that break the rules: 7 amazing luxury timepieces from Cartier to Patek Philippe with unconventional designs

Elegant, exhilarating and eclectic, be WOW-ed by these extraordinary creations. Post SIHH 2017, we look at seven timepieces that have transcended the norms of watchmaking.

W

achmaking is unmistakably about craftsmanship. Some commentators insist that watchmaking is very much like art and this might be true but only if one considers it an industrialized and cooperative art, like filmmaking. Nevertheless, the imaginations of luxury watchmakers have birthed timepieces that are out of this world, effectively making them larger than life. This spread takes that idea and brings it to life, paying tribute to the efforts of the watchmakers. Combining both technical elegance and grit, these seven watches challenge the boundaries of watchmaking, if there are any.

Known for their state of the art luxury fluidic watches, the HYT H3 defies the generalisation of traditional watches. Incorporating a linear design as the series’ trademark, the H3 is a step away from the usual circular face in previous ‘H’ watches. A capillary is located above a horizontal layer of 6 cubes –which contain each quarter of the day- that operates on a jump hour. Clockwork: the red retrograde minute hand snaps back from 60 to 00 after every hour. When it’s the last hour of the quarter the green liquid retracts back to the first cube signaling a new part of the day. The movement is powered by the energy created a pair of bellows as well as a vacuum in the fluid system. Shockingly unique and mesmerizing, the H3 unlocks a whole new world to watch design and engineering.

Bell & Ross has long been a brand fascinated with vintage aviation design. This admiration has been captured and reimagined in multiple forms through its BR series. With the BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon Sapphire, this dedication is encased in a 45mm case cut out from nine blocks of sapphire, adding a degree of technical complexity that one can feel as well as see – and see through. This renders the watch fully transparent, providing a window to view all of its intricacies. The case is paired with a translucent rubber strap inlaid with metallic finish woven Kevlar, achieving contemporary style and finish.

A more classic take on its cousin, the blockbuster Grandmaster Chime Ref. 5175, legendary watchmaker Patek Philippe has unveiled a new reference of its 175th-anniversary giant. The 6300G-001 is a doublefaced reversible wristwatch that includes the original 20 head spinning complications. Its two faces showcase the sonnerie and time, the other a full perpetual calendar. The 6300G-001is the most complicated wristwatch of all time but not by the mere number of complications. Obviously there are mechanical wonders with more complications but none has dared to take the pinnacle of timekeeping – the grand sonnerie – to even greater heights by sounding out the date too. As of 2017, no other watch has even come close.

When you look at a watch like the Rotonde de Cartier Astromystérieux, the illusion it presents is near hypnotic. The watch’s central display area is completely transparent, adding instead of taking away from the mysteries of its workings. With the word ‘mystery’ smack in its name, it is no wonder this piece by Cartier presents itself as another horological puzzle. The question this watch poses is how it is connected to the winding and setting mechanism, which is via the crown. As you can see, there appears to be no connection between the mechanical calibre and the crown. Well, how does it work? Four separate sapphire crystal disks are layered upon each other — each housing a different component — creating an illusion that the entire movement is suspended in the oculus of the watch dial. The juxtaposition between the elegance and complexity of this watch is what makes it breathtaking.

As Ferrari‘s official timekeeper and watchmaker, Hublot first revealed the MP-05 LaFerrari in 2013 and has since put out a full sapphire version. The original all-black watch was created as a tribute to Ferrari, with its design reminiscent of the iconic LaFerrari car’s V-shaped engine block. The watch’s movement runs on an astounding 637 components, coupled with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal face and a matte black finish for the titanium case. Black anodized cylinders with red accents along the 11 mainspring barrels reveal the time. With an exceptional power reserve of 50 days, the LaFerrari surely does live up to its powerful counterpart. Franck Muller Vanguard Gravity 131

Franck Muller‘s avant-garde style is revered as refreshingly different and daring, and this leading watch master has never been known to follow the norms. Part of the Vanguard collection, the Vanguard Gravityembodies the company’s raison d’être of uniqueness in both technicality and design. Boasting peerless visual impact in a tourbillon watch (the tourbillon section is massive), the watch represents an evolution of the Cintrée Curvex aesthetic. Set off center, the balance wheel pulls attention to the curved cage that holds it in place. Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatour Cobalt MicroMelt

HUBLOT ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NEW YORK GIANTS

Hublot becomes official timekeeper of the New York Giants; reveals exclusive timepiece co-designed by Victor Cruz Kicks off the partnership with a Manhattan Tailgate! Hublot announced a marketing partnership with the New York Giants making the Swiss luxury watch brand the Official Watch and Timekeeper of America’s famed football team. In celebration of the partnership, Jean-François Sberro, Managing Director, Hublot of America, alongside New York Giants wide receiver and fashion icon, Victor Cruz, hosted Manhattan’s first luxury “tailgate”, and unveiled the Classic Fusion Aerofusion timepieces inspired by the New York Giants and which Cruz co-designed. Coming off New York Giants home opener victory versus the New Orleans Saints, the event took place on a lot nestled between iconic New York City streets, Fifth Avenue and Broadway, with a stellar view of the Empire State Building rising above the skyline, where Hublot hosted friends of the brand, fans of the team, and media. The night offered an elevated take on tailgate traditions, from champagne, Hennessy cocktails, and fine craft beers from AnheuserBusch InBev served from the trunks of classic convertibles, “cornhole” beanbag toss tables, some attendees in Giants jerseys, and a makeshift yet formal bar atop Persian rugs holding flutes of champagne. The food leant itself to the elevated nature of the tailgate, with catering by award-winning Executive Chef Jean-Paul Bourgeois of Danny Meyer’s Blue Smoke barbecue, with grilled menu items including roasted oysters, lobster rolls, shrimp and vegetable skewers, in addition to a selection of smoked items including the chef’s acclaimed baby back ribs, pork shoulder, and whole smoked hog. Music was provided by native New York DJ and Giants fan Paul Sevigny, while guests enjoyed the party under brilliant “Hublot Loves Football” marquee lettering in true New York fashion. Thea

festivities of the night contributed to the luxe nature of this one-of-a-kind event, allowing guests to celebrate both the spirit of the Hublot brand and its partnership with the New York Giants organization. Notable attendees include Victor Cruz, Jesse Palmer, Paul Sevigny, Damon Harrison, Ramona Singer, Brandon London, and Devon Kennard. Midway through the evening, Jean-François Sberro and Victor Cruz shared the stage to introduce the Classic Fusion Aerofusion timepieces in both Titanium and King Gold. Immediately following, former NFL star and TV personality, Jesse Palmer, facilitated a Q&A with Victor Cruz to discuss details surrounding the collaborative inspiration and design process for the newly announced timepieces, recent wins after a two season hiatus, and most recently, his skillful catch that sealed the Giants’ victory this past Sunday over the New Orleans Saints. Jean-François Sberro, Managing Director, Hublot of America, commented, “We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with the iconic New York Giants – an exciting addition to our long-standing history with the world of professional sports – especially global football. Hublot was the first luxury brand to ever partner with a European football team and then an American football team, commencing with the Dallas Cowboys in August 2014, and we are thrilled to be the first luxury watch brand to partner with the New York Giants as we continue to strive to Be First, Be Different, and Be Unique.”

Protoype of New Supersonic Commercial Jet Unveiled

Concorde may be gone but the dream of supersonic flight is alive and well, as seen in the reveal last

week of a prototype of Sir Richard Branson and co’s new supersonic commercial jet. In case you’ve forgotten whatCaffey this might mean, supersonic flights could cut international flight times by as much as Photos by Brandon half. This is one step closer to becoming reality after Branson and an ambitious start-up unveiled a Editorial by Eilidh MacRae prototype of their “Baby Boom” jet in the US last week. Location at Atlantic Aviation at San Jose International Airport Clothes provided by NEIMAN MARCUS Suit GIORGIO ARMANI Watch Rolex

After first announcing their partnership back in March, Branson and the Colorado-based aeronautics company Boom pulled back the curtain on their XB-1 Supersonic Demonstrator – also dubbed Baby Boom – in a Denver hangar this week. The specs for the next-generation jet are impressive: At Mach 2.2, the aircraft would travel at more than twice the speed of sound, and 2.6 times faster than any other airliner.

That means flying from New York to London in 3 hours and 15 minutes – half the normal flight time for a commercial aircraft. Travelers flying from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia would also shave 8 hours and 15 minutes off their flight, and cross the Pacific in just under seven hours. And flights between San Francisco and Tokyo would be halved, arriving in 5 hours and 30 minutes. What will breaking the sound barrier feel like? According to engineers, flying at 60,000 feet – nearly twice the altitude of commercial aircraft – takes fliers above most of the turbulence to offer a smoother, inaudible ride. The prototype unveiled in Denver this week was a smaller but technically representative model of the future supersonic jet. The first test flight is expected to take place late next year, and the first commercial flight to take off in 2023. Despite the demise of the Concorde, Boom believes the world is on the brink of a new era in aviation with breakthrough aerodynamic design, advanced engine technology, fuel efficiency, and lighter composite materials that translate into lower ticket prices. That means the ability to price transatlantic flights for $5,000, making it comparable to business and first class fares. Sky-high tickets for the Concorde and declining load factors contributed to an unsustainable business model.

The Boom aircraft will be configured to seat 45 passengers. As supersonic flight is banned over the US, routes will be primarily international such as New York to London or San Francisco to Tokyo, flying subsonically when over land. The first subsonic test flight will be conducted near Denver next year, and a supersonic flight conducted from Southern California. Boeing and Lockheed Martin are also developing their own supersonic aircraft. Read more at http://www.luxuo.com/aircraft/prototypenew-supersonic-commercial-jet-unveiled. html#fGeET3Lt712bOKM8.99’
