For the last twenty years, Bill has lived at 197 Sullivan Road in Greene, with his wife Ruth and children Abbey, Shannon, Billy and Colleen, and the family dog, Doug the Pug. Bill is 47 years old, and owns The Geek Team, a software company based in Greene. Prior to founding The Geek Team in 1999, Bill did management, marketing and web development work for Geiger Bros. in Lewiston. Here is Bill with his family. From left to right, Billy (13), Ruth, Bill, Shannon (15), Abigail (17), Colleen (13) and Doug the Pug. The award was given to Bill and his company, The Geek Team, in large part due to his leadership shown in helping to complete the Greene Map project. The project ran aground a few years ago when the vendor the town had contracted with to produce the map went out of business. Bill coordinated a number of community resources to get the map produced for the town. Bill is a resourceful and creative guy, and is excited about working in Augusta to help solve some of the problems we face here in Maine.

Bill Organizing Greene Village Day
Greene did not have a Greene Village Day last year because no one stepped up to organize it. This year, the event happened because Bill volunteered to head up the committee to put on the event. Greene Village Day was a fun day for all, and a number of Greene's nonprofit organizations raised money and awareness.
Scott Lansley Endorsing Bill
Current State Rep. Scott Lansley, our State Rep. for the past four years, endorses Bill.
Incumbent State Representative Scott Lansley, wishing to spend more time with his family and build his business, is stepping down and has asked Bill to run for his seat. Scott wanted to ensure that his work in Augusta would be picked up by someone of principle who would continue to stand up to the bureaucrats and the politicians in Augusta, and carry on the work of trying to make our state a better place to live for the people of Greene and Sabattus.
Here is Bill shaking hands with folks at the Greene Village Day parade. Last year,
Economic Development Group
Bill is currently Co-Chairman of The Greene Economic and Community Development Group, and has served on that town committee for the past few years.
Bill would like to serve on the Business and Economic Development Committee in the Legislature and will work hard to make Maine a more business-friendly state.
Bill co-chairs the Greene Economics Development Group.
John Labonte, former chair and of the Greene Economic and Community Development Group, commended Bill and thanked Bill on behalf of the group for his efforts in helping to get the Greene Map project back on track. Bill has worked hard in Greene for economic development, and he'll work hard in Augusta to foster an economic environment that will create good jobs for the people of Maine.

Taxes and The Economy
Businesses create jobs, not the government. Maine state government needs to simply get out of the way of Maine's businesses and stop choking us with onerous taxation and regulation. Maine is one of the highest taxed states in the nation and is certainly not considered to be a friendly state for businesses. Since more than 90% of jobs in Maine are created by small businesses, it's critical that we stop and reverse the trend of growing the state government, so that small businesses can have a chance to not only stay afloat, but thrive.
If elected, you can count on me to say "No!" to any new taxes and I will fight hard to reduce our current tax burden. It's important to make sure that the mix of taxes that we put together to raise revenue for the legitimate functions of the state is fair, but what's more important is to take a good hard look at just what the state of Maine is doing. We have to look at the spending side of the budget.
Energy
The Democratic leadership, under pressure from environmentalist groups, have consistently hindered the drilling for oil off of our shores. We are now paying the price for our reliance on foreign oil.
I will work in Augusta to protect the environment so that we can drill off the coast of Maine, out of sight, and then refine that oil at a refinery located up at the old Loring Air Force Base. Combine that with putting two nuclear power plants up in remote areas in western and northern Maine, these would be safe, clean, and relatively inexpensive producers for energy compared to traditional alternatives. By locating these plants near our neighbors to the north and west, we will be able to sell not just electricity but refined oil products to our neighbors, generating enormous tax revenue for the state, which would allow us to eliminate Maine's personal income tax and possibly some other taxes as well. Alaska has done it. We can too.
Education
I believe that the closer education is to the parents, the more effective it is. I believe that parents and teachers are the best people qualified to educate our children. To the extent that the educational system in our state puts more power in the hands of Augusta bureaucrats, our kids suffer.
I oppose the consolidation of the school districts as proposed by the governor. While I do understand the quest for trying to save money, the truth is, this consolidation will not save much money at all. In fact, it could even cost more. But most importantly, it puts more distance between parents and school administrators. So if you have a problem with your child in school, it will be much more difficult for you to get a resolution to that issue because you will have to deal with a much larger school district. In my mind, any possible costs that might be saved would be offset by the loss of accountability by making much larger school districts, and putting that much more bureaucracy into the schools. 4

Helath Care
Bill discusses crime and public safety issues with the sheriff at the pancake breakfast at Greene Village Day. To keep Maine in a safe place to live and raise our children, Bill believes we should be tough on criminals, especially violent repeat offenders.
The governor's failed Dirgo program should be scrapped. The Democrats passage of a midnight hour tax on beer and wine to shore it up was disgraceful and resulted in overwhelming support for a People's Veto (Question 1 on this November's ballot). We need to relax regulations and mandates to foster a healthy, free market for health insurance. In addition, the State needs to pay its bill to hospitals for Maine Care to prevent hospital closings. Let's at least get that right and be sure those who really need basic coverage have it before we go experimenting with socialized medicine on a grander scale. Maine's taxpayers just can't support that kind of spending.
Right to Keep & Bear Arms
I am a strong supporter of our 2nd amendment rights.
Social Issues
Bill scored a perfect "A" on the National Rifle Association's candidate survey, and won the both NRA's endorsement, as well as the endorsement of the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine. Bill is an ardent supporter of our right to keep and bear arms, and will work hard and Augusta to ensure that that this right is not eroded by those who would like to take the guns of law abiding Maine citizens away.
Crime
I would like to see repeat violent offenders locked up for a very long time. There's no reason we should fear a knock on the door to have the sheriff warn us that a child molseter has moved in next door. In addition, non-violent offenders shouln't be viewing cable TV at taxpayer expense in prison. Non-violent offenders should do community service, not jail time.
Property Rights
Polluters need to be punished, but land owners property rights need to be respected.
Every Maine citizen, even those still in their mother's womb, should be protected by the law from violent attack. I believe marriage is between one man, and one woman. We shouldn't give any class of citizens special rights, especially when we define that class by their behavior.
Casinos
We need more good jobs in Maine, but encouraging Maine people to gamble is not the answer. I will oppose any effort to expand gambling in Maine. “I will not raise your taxes.” ~ Bill Clarke
Bill has publicly vowed, by signing this Taxpayer Protection Pledge, not to vote to raise your taxes. You can count on Bill to work hard, in fact, to lower your taxes, which will stimulate the Maine economy and create more good, secure jobs.
For the People, Not the Party
While I am a registered Republican, and am running as a Republican, I will be representing every citizen of Greene and Sabattus, and I promise to vote accordingly. I will never simply just vote the party line. I will decide, first of all based upon what I believe is right; second, what is best for the people of Maine; and third, what is best for my district. So while I am a Republican, and you may or may not be happy with what the Republican Party, especially in Washington, has been doing, I promise to be independent and fair-minded as I review the laws that are proposed.
No annoying phone calls
I don't know about you, but I get pretty annoyed by all of the phone calls coming in from the political parties and the campaigns. I can tell you one thing, and that is you will not receive a phone call from my campaign. I think the golden rule is a pretty good rule to follow. I certainly don't appreciate those annoying phone calls, so I'm not going to impose them upon you. The frequency of these phone calls will increase as Election Day approaches. All the annoying phone calls that were made earlier this year will begin to bear their fruit as the parties have tried to figure out whether you are friendly to them or not. If you are, or at least if they think you are, you can expect a bunch of phone calls to try to get you out to vote.
My suspicion is that most people in Greene and Sabattus are going to vote this year. It's a pretty important, almost historic election, and I don't think I need to harass you on the phone and remind you to vote. Therefore, we hope to send out a postcard as we get closer to Election Day not reminding you to vote, but to remember that if you are going to vote for me, my name will appear on the ballot as William Clarke, not Bill Clarke.

How's the campaign going?
FAQ
It's going well! I'm enjoying meeting so many people as I go door to door, and I campaign at the transfer stations. It's hard to tell how well I'm doing as there really is no poll data at this level, but I'm getting a lot of good feedback from everybody I meet. I know my opponent is working hard, and she's a very nice lady, so I believe it will be a very close race.
Who are you running against?
I am running against Stacy Dostie, a wonderful lady from Sabattus. Stacy and I have had the opportunity to work together, so I can say firsthand that Stacy is a hard worker and a very talented graphic designer. If you ever need any good graphic design work done, give Stacy a call! You can learn more about Stacy and where she stands on the issues on her website at www.StacyDostie.info, or you can call her at 207-375-8809.
Why are you running?
I am running because I would like to make this state a better place to live, work and play, not just for our current generation, but for our kids. Too many of our young people leave the state to find good jobs and I want to change that. I know that we can turn the state around and make Maine strong economically, giving us all good secure jobs and prosperous businesses, but that's not going to happen if we keep sending the same folks to Augusta.
I'm happy with our State government just the way it is. Who should I vote for?
Far too many candidates in this election seem to be calling themselves the candidates of change. But the truth is, if you are very happy with our state government, I would encourage you to vote for my opponent because no doubt, Stacy will be under a lot of pressure to vote the party line and keep the ship of state steering in the same direction. But, if you think we can do better, I'd be privileged to earn your vote and go to Augusta and represent you, every citizen in Greene and Sabattus. How can I help?
You can either give some time, some money, or both. To make a financial contribution, you can fill out the form below and mail it in with a check, or you can go on our website and make your contribution securely by credit card. Our website address is VoteBillClarke.com. Here's what you can do if you like to volunteer your time. Many people across Greene and Sabattus have volunteered to help out my campaign and help get the word out to our neighbors, but we can still use more help. Would you like to join my campaign and lend a hand?
How much can I give?
Bill’s mobile campaign headquarters.
Here again, the benevolent bureaucrats in Augusta do not trust you to dispose of your property the way you see fit. You may only give $250 towards my campaign. That is, each individual, or corporate entity, can only give $250 to a state representative campaign. So that means that you, your spouse, and members of your family can each contribute $250 provided that the money was theirs to give to begin with.
The Maine “Mean” Elections Act
My campaign is financed by volunteer contributions by hard working people. My opponent's campaign is financed by the taxpayers. Not only that, but my opponent is sent matching funds if I raise more than the taxpayers originally gave her. My opponent was given $4000 of taxpayer money to use for her campaign. If I raise, for example, $6000, then the taxpayers would kick in an additional $2000 for my opponent in matching funds. But while my opponent gets to spend all of that money, I don't. As you know, it costs money to raise money. So while I may have raised say, $6000, it may have cost $1000 to raise that money so I only have $5000 to spend on the campaign. My opponent is given the full $6000 to spend. Thomas Jefferson said, "To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."
If elected, I will work to repeal this law which I believe to be fundamentally unfair and misuse of taxpayer funds.

Win a Wii!
Win a Wii
In an effort to get kids engaged in the political process and learn more about how our system of electing candidates works, Bill is giving away a Wii to a lucky campaign volunteer! Each time you volunteer for his campaign, we add your name into a hat, and at the end of the campaign, we'll draw a winner!
Enter the Essay Contest!
We're also doing an essay contest. If you submit an essay, “I'm proud to be an American because..., we'll add your name into the hat another ten times, giving you a much better chance of winning the Wii. If you win the essay contest, we'll add your name in another ten times!
The essay contest will be judged by incumbent State Representative Scott Lansley. You must e-mail your essays to Scott at slansley2@aol.com by Wednesday, October 29th. The winner of both the essay contest and the Wii contest will be announced on Friday, October 31st.
If you volunteer for Bill's opponent's campaign, good for you! It's all about working the process to make Maine and America a better place to live. It's good that you're standing up for what you believe. If you'd like to enter the "Win a Wii" contest, just e-mail Bill your name and contact info, and how many times you helped out Stacy, and we'll put your name in the hat!
Bill's volunteers also get to play the Wii at Bill's office in between doing campaign work. Bill's campaign is giving away the Wii to the winner of a contest. Whoever volunteers for either Bill's campaign, or Bills opponents campaign, will have their name thrown into a hat to win the Wii. In addition, if you write an essay "I am proud to be an American because...", your name will be put in the hat ten additional times. If you win the essay contest, your name will go into the hat an additional 10 times.
Scott Lansley will judge the essay contest. Volunteers for Bill's opponents campaign simply need to drop an e-mail to Bill at Bill@voteBillClarke.com to register how many times they volunteered and we will enter their names as well.

Your vote matters!
VOTE
History is full of examples where one vote made all the difference: In 1845, Texas became a state by one vote. It was only one vote in the German Parliment that gave Adolph Hitler control of the Nazi Party. Lest you think one vote only makes a difference in high profile votes like the aforementioned, think again. In 1976, one state, Ohio, gave Jimmy Carter the Presidency. If only a few people in each Ohio precinct had voted for Mr. Ford, he would have prcvailed. We all know how close the last presidential election was. Your vote matters!
