Strong Foundations

Exciting Future

Chair’s Introduction

When you are next in School, walk for a moment from the Swallow Library, towards the Chapel and on to the cricket fields. In doing so you walk from the oldest part of the school, built 400 years ago, pass by the heart of the school, where the school community comes together in reflection and stand on the beautiful grounds looking out towards the City and its skyscrapers. I have often thought that short journey is a representation of the essence of Chigwell.

The Governing body share and support the Head’s vision for Chigwell School as described in this strategy. The Governors will work with the Head and school community to deliver it.

Our vision is:

• To secure and enhance the wellbeing and wellness of our whole community of pupils, staff and their families;

• To deliver a first-rate education that is both rooted in tradition but also looks to the modern world and workplace;

• To provide our pupils with facilities and opportunities in a wide range of art, drama, travel, music, outdoor pursuits, charitable activity and sports to become rounded and fulfilled young people;

• To be a centre of excellence for teacher recruitment, training and development;

• To be a beacon of the community in all we do and to be of value to the whole area;

• To care for our environment.

Our work with our pupils does not end when they leave Chigwell. They continue to grow and flourish with the outlook, skills and tools with which we have equipped them. Chigwellians are always welcome back to join in events and to share their experiences, and we are delighted that so many do.
