Children’s Hospital Colorado Ambassador, Harshit

Donor advised funds (DAFs) play a major role in funding advancements led by nonprofit organizations. At Children’s Hospital Colorado, grants from donor advised funds fuel the world-class pediatric expertise we provide to every family who needs us. You may already know DAFs for their convenience, tax efficiency, and growth potential, but have you considered how you can support Children’s Colorado through a gift from your DAF? The Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation is here to partner with you to pursue your philanthropic vision through your donor advised fund assets.

What is a Donor Advised Fund, or DAF? A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a personal charitable vehicle that donors can establish at a community foundation or financial institution. A DAF allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive a current year income tax deduction, and recommend grants from the fund over time to qualified nonprofits, such as the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.

A Donor Advised Fund Success Story Joe and Laura want to give back by putting their investments where they will do the most good. They establish a $25,000 donor advised fund (DAF) with a community foundation and selects how their assets will be invested. Children’s Hospital Colorado Ambassador, Lily

The couple receives a federal income tax charitable deduction that year and takes time to decide which charities to support. After researching local needs with the help of the community foundation that holds their DAF, Joe and Laura recommend grants for Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation (which they’ve supported for years) and a local animal shelter. The community foundation sends grants from their fund. Then Joe and Laura name Children’s Colorado Foundation as the beneficiary to receive their DAF account balance after their lifetimes. Joe and Laura are delighted to start their personal legacy of giving and provide valuable support for the mission of Children’s Colorado.

Ways to Give through Donor Advised Funds Make a one-time DAF donation to provide support to Children’s Colorado, impacting the health of children today as well as research efforts that become standards of care for the future. You can donate appreciated assets in your DAF without incurring capital gains taxes. Make an annual or monthly gift from your DAF to fund the programs that matter most to you. Request a recurring grant through your DAF provider and show your ongoing commitment to child health. Create an endowed fund with a DAF gift of $50,000 or more to promote the continued excellence of specific programs at Children’s Colorado and supplement general operating expenses. Endowed funds are essential to a fiscally healthy institution because they support clinical programs, research, education, and advocacy. Name Children’s Colorado as the beneficiary of your DAF or a percentage of the fund.
