Film is not Dead

Film is a dying art, and one that is so mesmerizing and precise that it should not be forgotten in the sweep of new and easier technology. Kelly took up a Nikon FM10, and two rolls of Centuria Super Multi Purposed Film (400) that expired back in November of 2007. Sadly she could not develop the images herself because she did not have the resources available to develop color film. However, the results were gorgeous and gloriously green.

I had the opportunity to travel to the northern coast of the Dominican Republic for a service trip through an organization called Global Leadership Adventures. During the trip, we worked in many villages in the country. These are portraits of children in the Dominican Republic, and I was hoping to portray their living situations and spread awareness about the poverty in many countries by taking these photos. Poverty and disease are huge issues in many areas of the Dominican Republic, as work and clean water are both hard to come by for the members of these communities. Despite the tough conditions these children face, they are the happiest and most fun group of kids I have ever worked with. Traveling and experiencing the Dominican Republic culture was an incredible experience. 31
