Dear Concert Patrons, Welcome to the 26th season of the San Francisco Girls Chorus! The year ahead is a very special one for the Chorus: next summer Chorissima will represent the U.S. at the 7th World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan. In anticipation of this exceptional tour, I invite you to join us this season for a melodious voyage to enchanted lands. Our concerts mingle Eastern and Western musical expressions and include fascinating compositions that will transport you to captivating and extraordinary places. Our season begins with Visions of Enchantment, a program that promises to stimulate exotic visions of spells, gods, fairies, and other mysterious apparitions. Stars of Wonder will shine upon our popular Holiday Sing-Along concerts with Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, a beloved masterpiece for treble chorus and harp. And, we add SONOS, the premier handbell ensemble in the U.S., to our festive holiday concert at Davies Hall. In May, our program East Meets West presents special Asian-influenced compositions; a challenging cycle, Four Basho Settings by Augusta Read Thomas, and Dwight Okamura’s "Sakura, Sakura." We are thrilled to have American composers Frank La Rocca and Joan Szymko create new works for us, which we will premiere here at home and take to Japan. World premieres, stunning Asian sonorities, holiday traditions, unique instrumental collaborations and much more await you on this amazing journey. I hope you will join us for this exciting season! Sincerely,
Susan McMane Artistic Director

filled with captivating works to delight, mesmerize, and enamor by compelling composers such as as Tomás Luís de Victoria, John Tavener, Lili Boulanger, Benjamin Britten, Frank LaRocca, Augusta Read Thomas, and Joan Szymko. This season includes new commissions, fabulous guest artists, and diverse music from across the continents.
Chorissima and Virtuose Susan McMane, conductor Susan Soehner, piano To Enchant: to delight, to mesmerize, to enamor; to cast a spell on. Delight in a diverse program with selections from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century on the theme of enchantment. Music that evokes the gods by Renaissance composer Tomás Luís de Victoria, German Romantic composer Josef Rheinberger, and contemporary English composer John Tavener will be featured. Spells will be cast by “Urok,” an amazing musical incantation against evil spirits by Slovenian composer Lojze Lebic, and by the sounds of Lili Boulanger’s “Les sirènes,” an ethereal invocation by the mythological temptresses of the sea. Other visions include those found in American spirituals and much more.
