The workshop’s Moderator and Managing Director of Satwant Transport, Mandeep De Brito, emphasised that this workshop would unpack Government and other stakeholders’ efforts aimed at easing movement of cargo through transit countries and making border posts more efficient. He introduced the presenter, Engineer (Eng.) Emmanuel Sampa from Zambia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics and encouraged active participation. Eng. Emmanuel Sampa underscored the need for Zambia to transition its transport corridors to economic corridors. He said the Government would prioritise the use of ports with the most benefits, especially low non-tariff barriers. Speaking about government efforts to upgrade transport infrastructure, Eng. Sampa said Government had embarked on a robust exercise to upgrade and maintain roads and transform border points into one-stop border posts. He acknowledged the fact that although transport infrastructure is being worked on, the road network in several parts of the country is still in poor condition, hence the use of PPPs to maintain roads.
