Chinese Edible Mushroom Industr y Marke China edible mushroom industrialized production survey organized by China Edible Mushroom Business Net was started from 2008. The annual survey and the survey reports provide data and theoretical guidance for edible mushroom industry and industrialized production enterprises, especially for listed companies, potential listed companies and financial investment enterprises. Recent years, around 100 enterprises and financial investment institutions consulted relevant data and survey reports from China Edible Mushroom Business Net for their further development. Several China domestic enterprises, such as, Zhongxing Fungi industry and China Lvbao company, have entered the capital market. Recently, another leading company in mushroom industry--Shanghai Xuerong Biology Company announced that they would open the information of IPO on the GEM. Till now, the daily production amount of Shanghai Xuerong Biology Company is 304 tons of Enoki mushroom and 26 tons of Hypsizigus marmoreus, which ranks first in all Chinese industrialized production companies. Besides, the first period project of the company that daily produces 130 tons of Shiitake was started in the fourth quarter of 2014. The Shiitake was sold in a small amount in the second quarter of 2015. Shanghai Xuerong Biology Company has built edible mushroom bases in six cities, such as, Shanghai, Dujiangyan, Changchun, Dezhou, Huizhou and Bijie, which cover 90% population of China in the 900 km of transportation radius. This company also includes the daily-industrialized production of White mushroom project of 90 tons, daily-industrialized production of edible mushrooms project of 40 tons and edible mushroom breeding production bases. After all of these projects completed, the daily production of Enoki mushroom will increase to 304 to 344 tons. There are three reasons why Shanghai Xuerong Company can be listed. Firstly, its capacity ranks first in China, its production distribution is rational. Now, the company has built six bases in China. Through the rational production distribution, it takes the full advantage of the products that are close to the consumer market, the lower delivery cost and the freshness of products supply. On the other hand, the company obtains the advantage of advanced technologies, such as liquid spawn, contamination rate control, biological transformation rate and single bottle production. The key technologies are contamination rate control and biological transformation rate, which reflects the strong strengths of this company. Finally, this company strengthens and expands the leading advantage of Enoki mushroom production. In 2013, the industrialized production of Enoki mushroom was 2,678.65 tons per day; the annual output was about 980 thousand tons. The production of this company accounted for 35.90% of the Chinese total production amount. Shanghai Xuerong Company has a great developing space in the future. In order to expand this advantage and based on the current development situation and its own conditions, the company will further expand the Enoki mushroom cultivation in the next three years. It intends to promote the annual output production from 109.4 to 150 thousand tons, further strengthens the market share of Enoki mushroom. China Lvbao Company is another listed edible mushroom company. This company is an integrated supplier of edible mushroom products; it is also called as food-processing supplier, such as canned food. Lvbao Group started to be operated in 1995, its core brands are “lvyuan Baojun” and “Lvxian”. The main products of Lvbao Group can be divided into fresh edible mushrooms, including, King oyster mushroom, Button mushroom and Straw mushroom; and processed food, such as canned mushroom, canned fruit , brine mushroom, pickle and dried mushrooms. As the biggest producer of King oyster mushroom in China, the reason why Lvbao ompany can be listed in Hong Kong under the depression environment of King oyster mushroom is its original development strategies. Meanwhile, under the competing environment, it may provide references and guidance for other King oyster mushroom enterprises that also intend to be listed in the future. The competing advantage of Lvbao Company

k e t —— E d i b l e M u s h r o o m L i s t e d C o m p a n i e s is the vertical integration and cost-effectiveness business model. Its business range covers mushroom cultivation, producing and selling of fresh edible mushroom and processed edible mushroom products. This vertical integration model makes the company to as an outstanding one in other fresh and processed mushroom suppliers in China. According to different customers’ orders, China Lvbao Company enable to choose the amount of cultivation and harvest, mushroom species, weight and shipment. Besides, based on the research and development ability, China Lvbao Company makes the waste spawn of King oyster mushroom as the raw material of Button mushroom and Straw mushroom cultivation, reduces the cost and increases the profit. This company also has national distribution and selling networks, including, distribution channels, mushroom processed producers and China trading companies. Up to the April 30th of 2015, the sales amount of King oyster mushroom, Button mushroom and Straw mushroom, canned and other processed products are 9,561 tons, 16,027tons, 4,409 tons and 625 tons respectively. Their prices on average are 6.5 CNY, 7.0 CNY, 7.3 CNY and 10.6 CNY. In the domestic Cordyceps sinensis market, the State Council published relative policies and plans. It proposed “three major principle“ that includes insistingon combining Government guidance and marketdriven, combining resources protection and industry development and combining increasing production and improving products’quality. The State Council stressed that for threatening endangered and rare traditional Chinese medicine species, building special breeding bases and 100 wild bases for Cordyceps sinensis are necessary. In addition, developing mechanized production and modern processing technologies are able to improve the modern production level of traditional Chinese medicine. Cordyceps sinensis is the micro-segments in the endangered Chinese medicine. Because that Cordyceps sinensis can’t be artificially cultivated at present, the annual output is stable that keeps about 100 to 120 tons. Due to that the raw material is limited, the deep processing of Cordyceps sinensis has became a trend. From 2009 to 2013, the deep processing scale of Cordyceps sinensis increased from 400 million CNY to 7.7 billion CNY, the compound growth rate reached 109% in four years. There are two directions of the Cordyceps sinensis deep processing. The first one is that trying to make Cordyceps sinensis as the single raw material for deep processing. The other is mixing Cordyceps sinensis with other herbs for deep processing. It is predicted by experts that the sale amount of caterpillar fungus products will reach to over 65 billion CNY in China, in 2018, the annual growth rate on average keeps above 10%. Qinghai Chuntian Company is a key leading high technology company in Qinghai. Its business is process Cordyceps sinensis as micronized powder and make as tablets for sell. Their main product named as Jicao 5X Cordyceps sinensis tablet is an innovative product launched by this company. According to industry materials, the market share of deep processing Cordyceps sinensi products of Qinghai Chuntian Company was about 50%, accounting for over 11.1% on the whole Cordyceps sinensis industry from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, the company’s revenue reached more than 2 billion CNY. With the developmet of edible mushroom industry, the industry shows a new prosperity now. However, the edible mushroom industry also shows several problems. Yuchun Li who is the chairman of China Edible Mushroom Business Net, puts forward specific requirements. Recent years, many edible mushroom equipment enterprises had done many productive works in achieved and promoted intelligence production. Some technologies are advanced in the world. At the same time, edible mushroom industry early achieved industrialized and intelligence production industry in Chinese agriculture development. Therefore, mushroom enterprises need to focus on the edible mushroom industry survey and research. Edible mushroom deep processing is an important way for expanding consumer market, improving industrial competition and adding additional products’value. Mushroom Times · Jul/Agu 2015

Local News in China Zhejiang: Shiitake capsule mushroom spawn technique achieved outstanding effects in Qingyuan
The principle of capsule mushroom spawn is pressing mushroom bags with cultured strain on the plastic honeycomb panel to resume growth, just like capsule pills. The expiration date of capsule mushroom spawn under normal temperature is 2 to 8 days; it can be extended to 15 to 20 days in the cold storage. Most techniques of Shiitake capsule mushroom spawn cultivation and common mushroom spawn cultivation are same, except the inoculation link. In the inoculation link, capsule mushroom spawn replaces common mushroom spawn; the inoculation methods, expiration date of mushroom spawn and aerating mushroom bags have special requirements. Based on this technique, the inoculation efficiency is improved, the infection of mixed bacteria and insects can be controlled, and the mycelia growth is promoted. From 2001, Qingyuan Edible Mushroom Science Research Centre introduced the capsule mushroom spawn technique. It integrated local actual situations and carried a pilot project. Till now, there are four types of Shiitake that adopt this technique. In 2014, the total production of capsule mushroom spawn was 150 thousand, it had inoculated 30 million mushroom

According to the David Ojcius who is the microbiologist of Pacific Dental Center, San Francisco, the weight of mice who were fed the high-fat food contained extract of Lucid ganoderma less 25% than the mice’s who were not fed the high-fat food not contained extract after two month.s This is due to the high fat food contained Ganoderma lucidum extract prevents the fat composition, intestinal inflammation and harmful bacteria remained in the blood. Ojicius with his workmate John D.Young who is a professor of Chang Gung University researched the mice who were fed the high-fat food contained extract(Polysaccharides) of Lucid ganoderma. The study found that intestinal bacteria, firmicutes and bacteroides of two different of ratios help the gut to health. At the same time, Polysaccharides contained in lucid ganoderma can change the ratios among these bacteria, which has a very positive effect to promote the intestinal health. Ojcius bold predicted that Ganoderma also can promote the intestinal health of obese people. He also said, at present, this research only aimed at obese people and mice. It is have less effect for mice who keep regular diet. Sport, diet and heredity are also the important factors for bacteria. Ojcius suggested that the consumers should have a survey before buy extract of Ganoderma. (Reference: PBS Newshour )

Dahe Xiangzhi professor who is from Agricultural Research Institute of Kyushu University successfully achieved artificial cultivation Cordyceps militaris, at the same time, he improved the active ingredients. Cordyceps sinensis is one type of medicinal mushroom of entomogenous fungi. The spore parasitized in the body of larvae in winter and grew mycelium in the soil. In summer, the mycelium became Cordyceps sinensis. It is very difficult that artificial cultivate this natural parasitism. Dahe Xiangzhi professor has researched the parasitic structure of Cordyceps sinensis for many years. He main researches the Cordyceps sobolifera. He said, Cordyceps militaris and Cordyceps sinensis are same for anticancer, improving blood pressure and renal function. In future, the artificial cultivated Cordyceps militaris will be have clinical test in Sri Lanka. (Reference: nishinippon.co.jp)
It is reported that Indian scientists use crop waste to cultivate edible mushroom, having a good benefits, including, filling up shelves in supermarkets with mushrooms, empowering tribal women through commercially viable mushroom cultivation, and ensuring higher nourishment for tribals through mush-room-rich diets. Scientists from IISc’s Centre for Sustainable Technologies (CST) have developed biogas reactors which ferment straw, weeds and leaf litter. They combined these with other agricultural wastes and digested residues from biogas units to create a fertile ground for edible mushroom cultivation. The researchers found that this unique substrate efficiently converts crop waste into usable protein for human consumption, and also boosts mushroom yield as compared to conventional methods. The researchers supplemented biogas digester residue with agricultural waste- paddy straw or coir pith in a specific ratio - to maintain structure suitable for mushroom growth. Researchers said Bio-gas reactors break-down plant material in the absence of oxygen to produce methane that can be used as a clean while generating digested byproducts rich in organic matter. This reactor that can use plant waste and cow dung to transfer the biogas. It can cultivate mushroom by used waste crop. (Reference: bangaloremirror)
Thailand: A new type of biological plastic packaging can prolong mushroom’s expiration date There is grate demand of mushroom in Chinatown of Thailand. Due to the mushroom contained a lot of water, it will cause dehydration and flavor changed in short time. Even in the winter, the expiration maybe no longer than one day. According to these kinds of situations, some professors have researched a new type of plastic that is biodegradable. It is used the way that made the fresh fruits and vegetables to “sleep”. According to the different species’ s respiratory rates, it reduces the appropriate oxygen inside of plastic bag and control ethylene gas, which prevent the fruit and vegetables to ferment, achieve the desired effect. This kind of bag can prolong mushroom’s expiration date to seven days, made the mushroom will be fresh even in winter. Because of different respiratory rates, different fruits and vegetables need different bags. At the same time, the fruits and vegetable of used this kind of bags can be exported, need to adjust appropriate freezing temperature. It can promote agricultural products export and reduce trade barriers. At present, the agricultural products used of Thailand biological plastic bags are be listed. It is also promote to the farmers. The biological plastic bag not only solves the problem of common plastic cause the environmental problems, but also promotes local mushrooms to export. Europe Israel: Truffle was cultivated successfully in Galilee Previously, a local fungi researcher predicted at the agricultural fair at Rishon Letzion that Truffle could be cultivated in Israel in two years. Recently, it achieves in Galilee. Truffle has long been a luxury product among local researchers and farmers. On the one hand, a kilo of Truffle creates the profit of 100 thousand dollars. On the other hand, Truffle grows under the land; fungi spores adhere to the root system of oak trees and can fruit after many years. Recently, Truffles are found under oak trees that were planted 15 years before in Galilee. Researchers introduced that trained pigs are commonly used to detect underground Truffles in Europe. However, in Israel, dogs are used after professional training for finding out local under ground Truffles. (Reference: mako.co.il)

Others South Africa: The technology of Oyster mushroom cultivation made a new breakthrough in the high temperature zone Sydwell Sihlangu who is a Master student of North West University in South Africa has successfully cultivated Oyster mushroom. It is a qualitative leap and an innovation on low-cost crops cultivation. Mafikeng [Mahikeng] is known for its harsh summer season with the temperature of 37°C. Thus, it is known that most plant species are not able to be cultivated in this area, including Oyster mushroom. Oyster mushroom is mainly cultivated in temperate and subtropical regions. Oyster mushroom is one of the most important fungi producing high-quality protein by using various agro-wastes. This is a milestone for crop science and a major development for food security. The university said the concept of using crop residues to grow mushrooms comes from the concept that using non-conventional crop production and existing agricultural system could improve the socio-economic status of small-scale farmers. Sihlangu intended to facilitate the cooperation between agriculture departments and smallscale farmers, impart training and knowledge. He also said that he was especially proud, because it is a real breakthrough in terms of crop science. He plans to work harder and help smallscale farmers to gain more recognition and play more important roles in the country’s economy. (Reference: allafrica)
