Dear Members,
A M ES S AGE F R O M T H E
I am thrilled to share some exciting updates and upcoming events at our esteemed Club.
Firstly, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support in approving the $9 million upgrading project. This project will transform our Recreation Complex into a Lifestyle-centric hub and enhance the Fun Pool at the Sports Complex. We eagerly look forward to welcoming you to these revamped spaces in 2026.
In celebration of our Club's 119th anniversary, we have a series of special events planned. On 3 July, we will host a charity golf event, followed by a gala dinner on 5 July, with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam gracing us as the guest of honour. These events will support the President’s Challenge beneficiaries, raising funds for the less fortunate in our community. Leading up to these main events, our sports and lifestyle committees, subcommittees, and management staff have organised activities such as the CSC Swimathon and a bazaar, successfully raising $300,000. A huge thank you to our members and everyone involved for your dedication and generosity.
Mark your calendars for our marquee swim event, the 6th Super Junior Swimming Invitational 2024, from 12 to 14 July. This event will welcome young swimmers from both local and international arenas. Additionally, our 17th Chinese Swimming Club Age Group Badminton Tournament 2024 will be held from 2 to 8 September, inviting all badminton enthusiasts to participate.
Get ready for an action-packed September break! We have planned an array of activities for your children, including sports camps to boost your skills, thrilling rock-climbing sessions for an adrenaline rush and fascinating 3D printing workshops for a creative and educational experience. It's all set to make your children’s holiday unforgettable!
Our Club's athletes have made us proud once again. Our junior and senior swim teams have won the Singapore Aquatics (SAQ) Club Challenge Cup for
the third consecutive year, bringing home a total of 277 medals in the 54th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championship (SNAG) 2024. Special congratulations to our swimmers, head coach Zhang Jian Lan and the coaching team for their outstanding contributions.
We have witnessed the induction of aquatic athletes such as Joseph Schooling, Lionel Chee, and Patricia Chan, as well as former national water polo player and Club Patron, the late Dr Tan Eng Liang, into the inaugural Singapore Aquatics Hall of Fame. This honours their remarkable contributions to the aquatics community.
As part of our commitment to embracing digital transformation, we encourage you to sign up for e-statements and create an online account. This platform allows you to easily access current and past statements, book sports facilities and register for Flexi-Pass classes. You will receive a complimentary hot beverage of your choice at Mingle@Amber and automatically be entered into our lucky draw for making the switch. Thank you once again for your continued support and participation. We look forward to celebrating these milestones and achievements with you.

The Chinese Swimming Club held its 109th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 28 2024, at the Grand Ballroom. The AGM began at 10:30am when a quorum was reached. Club Captain, Mr John Chew read out the Standing Orders and acknowledged the presence of several individuals, including the Club’s auditors and Legal Advisor.
The Club President, Mr Victor Chia, welcomed and thanked the members for their attendance. He briefly discussed the plans to upgrade the Recreation Complex and the Great Bubble Reef (Fun Pool). Mr Chia highlighted the Club's upcoming 119th anniversary and fundraising events, such as a charity golf and gala dinner, encouraging members to support these initiatives as proceeds will go to the President’s Challenge. Additionally, he welcomed Ms Dorothy Tay and Mr Edwin Lim as new members of the Management Committee. The opening address concluded with a presentation of tokens of appreciation to Mr Goh Peng Koon and Ms Christine Koh, who stepped down as members of the Management Committee, thanking them for their service to the Club.

Mr Victor Chia (President), Mr Peter Liew (Vice-President, General), Mr Jonathan Kuah (VicePresident, Finance), Mr John Chew (Club Captain), and Mr Dick Lee (Club Vice-Captain) were reappointed to serve on the Management Committee for the new term.
There was no contest in the election of the Management Committee and Disciplinary Panel members. The
12 Management Committee members are Mr Michael Leong, Mr Chia T-Jian, Mr Steven Tan, Mr Gerard Ng, Mr Eugene Ng, Mr Peter See, Mr Edmund Tan, Mr Foo Choon Yeow, Mr Ong Eng Keong, Mr Johnson Ong, Ms Dorothy Tay, and Mr Edwin Lim. Mr Vincent Kuek, the Club’s trustee since 2002, and who has devoted over 25 years of service to the Club, has been elected as the Honorary Vice-President of the Club.
Vision 2050 Committee Chairman, Mr Foo Choon Yeow presented the Club's milestones and highlighted the much-anticipated proposed $9 million upgrading project of the Recreation Complex and the Fun Pool at the Sports Complex. The presentation included a 3D fly-through of the proposed upgrading project and artist’s impressions. The aim of the upgrade is to create an attractive home away from home for members to visit more often and stay longer. The resolution for the $9 million upgrading project of the Recreation Complex and the Fun Pool received overwhelming support from the members. What a fantastic Easter Sunday it was on 31 March 2024! Our little ones were fully engaged in a plethora of fun craft activities, such as designing their own tote bag, decorating Easter cards and using their creativity to make adorable Easter hats. The real highlight of the day was our parent-child team Easter scavenger hunt, which was fully registered and provided a great opportunity for families to bond and work together. Thank you for your participation and support for this event, and we hope to make it even better next year!
The Eco-Force Bazaar 2024 @ CSC on 4 May 2024 had engaging activities promoting sustainability and an eco-friendly lifestyle, such as upcycling art activity using empty toilet rolls collected in the club, a kokedama workshop by Plantitude and sale of succulents and plants by our own CSC Urban Farmers! We also had face painting for the little ones! There was also an incredible lineup of vendors selling an array of products such as food, lifestyle and beauty items, and home goods.
We could not have done it without the support of our wonderful members and guests who attended the bazaar, as well as our amazing vendors. We also want to give a big shoutout to the Club's Lifestyle committee and subcommittees, who worked tirelessly to bring this event to life. We hope that everyone who attended had a blast, because we sure did!
In conjunction with Earth Day, we organised an eggshell upcycling workshop on 21 April 2024. Our members and guests took part and customised useful items such as keychains and coasters using eggshells. This workshop not only provided an opportunity for participants to have fun but also to contribute to the betterment of our planet.
Our members and guests had a great time creating their own eco-enzymes from food waste, which can be used as a cleaning agent and insecticide for plants on 12 May 2024. These enzymes are sustainable and gentle for the environment. They also learned how to make compost using soil, coffee grounds, eggshells, and fruit scraps. As a special gift for Mother’s Day, all mothers received a handmade bar of soap. Thank you to everyone for joining us! Let’s work towards reducing the amount of organic matter in our landfills!
On 24 February 2024, the CSC dance subcommittee hosted a vibrant celebration for Chinese Valentine's Day. Our members and guests had a blast at our Retro Charity Dance Night on 11 May 2024, stepping back in time to the groovy tunes of the past. They looked fantastic in their disco attire and we are so grateful for their support of the President’s Challenge. Congratulations to our lucky draw winners - you really know how to boogie!
