Messa the Pr To my fellow Celadoneans! A warm welcome to all of you! As we celebrate Ateneo Celadon’s 27th year of existence, it is the hope of the entire Executive Board that we are able to create a greater impact on the Ateneo community. For the past few years, Celadon has slowly been slipping into the shadows of other more prestigious organizations. This year, we are aspiring to extend our reach beyond our own walls of comfort, to illuminate the identity that has been misunderstood for so long, and to reestablish the main purpose and identity that Celadon stands for. Everyone, regardless of cultural background, is welcome, as Celadon aims to serve as the home of all Ateneans who wish to appreciate, enjoy, and celebrate the beauty of the Chinese-Filipino culture. But the organization will not be able to move forward without your participation and involvement. The Executive Board, together with our project heads and managers, has carefully planned numerous projects and events that you can be a part of in order to nurture that potential within you. We are looking forward to meeting and working with all of you this year and the years to come. YOU are Celadon’s promise for a better tomorrow, and you will become the future of this organization. Moreover, it is my personal hope that all of you will find a sense of purpose and belongingness in Celadon just as I did. In the last three years I have been with the organization, I found myself going back to
age from resident my roots, discovering myself, and appreciating my own culture that I have regrettably taken for granted before. I also saw myself gain the confidence I needed to help me become the leader I am today. I can say that Celadon has formed me through its promising leadership and cultural projects. But beyond these, Celadon was able to give me much more than I bargained for. It was in this organization that I was able to find the most inspiring and fun-loving group of people. I was able to gain lasting relationships with the people whom I truly care for, and who aided me throughout my personal growth. My simple wish is this – open your hearts to Celadon and allow this organization to touch your lives and to lead you in celebrating the richness and beauty of the Chinese-Filipino culture. Just as I have done throughout my Celadon journey, I want you to immerse yourselves in the company of this diverse yet unified group of people who work together to celebrate cultural diversity, to nurture spirited dreams, and to foster leadership geared towards Filipino nationbuilding.

Vision organ For an organization to be driven into the future, we must first determine the direction where we most need to go. In line with this year’s theme of illuminating both others, and ourselves, we believe that the most crucial path to take is one of discovering and appropriating our identity – an identity not exclusive, but shared. Celadon’s direction for this year is simple – rediscover the Filipino within the Chinese-Filipino culture. In the past, we have focused too much on the many facets and exhibitions of Chinese traditions, and in the process have lost touch of what Chinese-Filipino culture is truly about. While not losing sight of the Chinese heritage the Chinese-Filipino culture has, we wish to emphasize that it is also truly Filipino. It is the unique blending and intermingling of different ideas and thoughts that shape Filipino culture, and the Chinese-Filipino culture is exactly the same, yet in a different way. It is a very dangerous line we tread – yes indeed. We understand the difficulty each one of us faces in discarding old, and perhaps ill-fit traditions, which we are comfortable with. But changing the practices, ideologies, and beliefs we embrace does not mean we discard the rich history of our culture – it actually brings us closer to its truest essence. We must be steadfast in ensuring our culture does not stagnate by lingering in the shadows of the past. Our organization is shifting our aims from simply a celebration of old traditions, to a more relevant, interconnected, identity that shows the role of Chinese-Filipino culture within the tapestry of our Filipino
n for the nization people. It is not a variation, not a separate entity, but part of the greater whole. So we open our doors to everyone wishing to be a part of this modern revolution – the formation of a modern culture and identity that emphasizes friendship, unity, and nationhood. Celadon has prepared for you expositions, shows, festivals, and talks that seek to put a modern perspective on Chinese heritage and Filipino legacy, Chinese traditions and Filipino values, into a complex, unique package we call the Chinese-Filipino. Welcome to a new year for cultural leadership, identity building, and modern-day nationhood. Welcome to Ateneo Celadon.

Chief Finance To all Celadoneans, The office of the Chief Finance Officer welcomes you as you dive into the realm of values and numbers. Here you learn how to handle money, plan fundraising activities, maximize profits, allocate and budget for necessary expenses, and in the end, become skilled in the more practical aspects of finance. Finance officers serve as the middle managers of the financial arm of Celadon and also act as the core team members for fundraising projects. Especially in these events, being a finance officer is not all about financial transactions and book balancing, as the job requires you to be interactive and creative, as you mingle with different project heads from different departments and come up with entrepreneurial methods to finance your organization. As part of the core team that spearheads all the financial projects, being part of this office requires diligence. Furthermore, as the semester begins and the academic workload begins to pile up, the most important trait that we are looking for in a member is commitment. So if you love to watch the sound of income trickling in and wish to experience the joy of a successful fundraising project, then you are more than welcome to join us in the office of the Chief Finance Officer.

In addition, the privilege card shows the amount of exposure of Celadon to the businesses outside Ateneo and moreover, this project is a testament of the success of the efforts of the Corporate Relations Department of Celadon. Through the privilege card, non-active Celadoneans are motivated to be more dedicated to the organization because they see the extent of Celadon’s achievements. Likewise, hardworking Celadoneans are able to reap the benefits of the work they did for the organization and furthermore, the privilege card is able to attract non-members to join the organization because of the great deals that come with the card.

Marketing Seminar
The 2012 Marketing Seminar of Celadon presents “The Ring: Because All it Takes is a Phone Call. This will be the primary theme from which all the activities will be carried out. The project heads aim to imbibe the participants of this seminar with the practice of persuasion, negotiation, and sealing deals which are all essential in the said field. To help achieve this, professional guest speaker/s will be invited to impart formal knowledge on corporate marketing. This will prep the minds of the young participants to stepup on a nationwide/ global scale of marketing. In contrast to this, a past or current marketing officer of Celadon will also be invited to disclose tips and tricks from a wide array of experiences. This will provide a more relatable background to the audience. Participants can expect a unique and exciting seminar (as implied from the project title) through the flow of programs that the heads have come up with. This event will not only cover talks, but also hands-on activities from which they can utilize their individual skills and get closer to the project heads and managers of CorRel.

The Mid-Autumn Gratia Festival is one of the biggest events of Celadon in the first semester. In this event, we celebrate both the Chinese Mooncake Festival and Teachers’ Day as we play the traditional dice game, enjoy performances from our fellow Celadoneans and other guests, and give awards to our beloved professors. A week before the event, students can vote for their favorite professors in different categories at the Doghouse. This year, we’re bringing a little twist to the Mid-Autumn Gratia Festival. The set-up will be one that has never been seen before because we’re bringing Chinatown to Ateneo! There will be booths for Binondo delicacies, dice games, and a lot more! Don’t miss out on the chance to have fun in this one-of-a-kind celebration! In line with Celadon’s theme this year, Illuminate, the Mid-Autumn Gratia Festival also aims to have a two-way learning of cultural and life values between participants and members. This will also be a good opportunity for you to meet special guests and notable dignitaries. It will then be followed by a special movie screening for invited guests. Strokes
kyle_meguizo@yahoo.com swy1994114@yahoo.com.hk
What is Strokes? It is an event held by Ateneo Celadon which caters to artistic individuals who want to exhibit their talents through calligraphy writing or drawing. The organization invites students from different Chinese-Filipino schools to join. The participants have the option of joining either the calligraphy contest or the art competition. Why do we have an event like Strokes? By inviting students from different schools to share their talents, we can observe and learn from their craft. We find it interesting how the Chinese use a brush called mao bi to form graceful “strokes in both writing and drawing. The style and art of holding this brush is much different from how a regular painter would hold his own paintbrush. Unlike last year where Strokes was held in Makati, the event will be held inside Ateneo. Aside from the competition proper, we also plan to tour the students around the campus to show them the different facilities in Ateneo to promote not only our alma mater but our organization as well. Hence, we will need a lot of volunteers to serve as tour guides for our participants around the campus. Celadoneans may also opt to be the host or proctor of the competition. This is a great chance for you to feel the excitement of the contests you may have encountered during your high school and elementary years. In addition, this also serves as a good opportunity for you to witness how the participants exhibit their skill in calligraphy and art. So come and grab the chance to immerse yourself in Chinese culture by volunteering for Strokes this year!

Tis the season to be jolly fa la la, la la la, la la la… Excited for the holidays? Want to share some happiness? Then Blue Christmas 2012 is here for you! Blue Christmas is an annual event held in the Ateneo de Manila University wherein different organizations volunteer as class hosts for a selected number of students from the different less fortunate communities around the metro. It has been Ateneo Celadon’s tradition to take part in this service–oriented event annually. Living up to its vision and mission, the Council of Organizations in the Ateneo (COA) sees to it that its members have holistic growth throughout their stay in the Ateneo—from the personal development of their leadership skills to being men and women for others as what every Atenean should be. Through this event, we aim to give hope to those kids’ tainted lives, and let them feel the spirit of Christmas despite everything. As a class host, volunteers not only impart knowledge and values to the kids but also spread happiness by spending half a day with them doing games and fun-filled activities. Plus, there are all those food and prizes that await them! At the end of the day, both kids and volunteers bring home a happy fulfilled heart and a mind full of new learnings and experiences. Sounds good? Do you feel like being a Santa Claus this season and wanting to grant those kids’ wish lists? Then why not put this on top of your to-do list this coming Christmas? Watch out this November and get ready as we prepare to put a smile on every child’s face!

The objective of our outreach programs is for our Celadoneans – future Chinese-Filipino leaders –to experience what it is like to go out of their comfort zones and interact with people who need them most. Celadon outreach is an opportunity to bond with the children by playing games, doing arts and crafts, and sharing our unique Chinese-Filipino culture with them. Last year, we taught the kids how to do Chinese calligraphy. We showed them how fun and enjoyable our traditional dice game is. This year, we plan to hold “wushu” tutorial sessions, to teach them basic Chinese, and to play fun Chinese games, like the Chinese yoyo, Chinese garter, etc. Get ready to share your knowledge with these children and surely, you will learn from them too. ChineseFilipino Friendship Expo Project heads: Iking Yusingco and Jade Sy
You can’t be ChineseFilipino without being Filipino. Contrary to a popular belief, Celadon neither promotes exclusivity to the Chinese-Filipino Ateneans, nor racism towards the Filipinos. One way to shatter this belief is through the Chinese-Filipino Friendship Expo. For one whole week, Celadon will showcase one of its greatest efforts in nation-building through sharing and understanding the relationship, friendship, and coexistence of both the ChineseFilipino and Filipino cultures. Celadon’s newest project intends to further strengthen the bond between the Chinese-Filipino and Filipino communities by helping both sides gain a deeper understanding of each other’s culture. Foundations that share in our beliefs regarding the importance of Chinese-Filipino and Filipino friendship will be invited to showcase their advocacies to the Ateneo community. This week-long event will not only bring different people together, it will also strengthen and develop relationships between cultures. With a week full of fun-filled games, contests, and other exciting activities, the Chinese-Filipino Friendship Expo is surely not one to miss. This is an event that anyone and everyone can be a part of and venture into a variety of cultures and practices. It’s time to make your mark and be part of Celadon’s history!

This year, the Project heads: Averyl Chua, Executive Board has decided to change Andrew Santos and the event’s name once again to make it Erica Ong more formal and inviting. Similar to the previous Celadon Balls ave_1017@yahoo.com and Year-end Parties, these will be the andrewsantos555@yahoo.com highlights of the event: introduction of ejoyce_ong@yahoo.com the new Executive Board, recognition of outstanding members, and celebration of Celadon’s achievements during the past school year. The target date for this event is in February 2013 and we all know that this month is special because it’s Valentine’s and Prom season. Most, if not all, of us have had our experience of prom – pre-prom preparation, prom date, first dance, etc. – and definitely, if given the chance, we would want to go back to that time and ‘experience the magic’ once again. We want the ball to be the place where you can feel like you’re in high school once more and experience the magic all over again! Already feeling the pre-prom jitters? Then, join us in here in Induction Ball and help us make this event a magical one!
