AN ARTICLE about the life we could live without the pressure of society to lead fantasy lifestyles.
Every day as a consumer, a viewer, a person you are at the forefront of where you should be and who you should be. This overwhelming pressure to create the perfect lives can overtake the want for us to be happy and prosperous in our ways. A world without this, a world where the fashion and beauty industry’s make you feel that you are enough, a world where you don’t need saving by a lover, a world where you are allowed to be happy and free, a world where you are accepted, that’s a world we should be striving for together. Before you even begin walking through this venture called life, an introduction to the main goal is exposed. Productions irreverent take on main goals consistently include someone (usually a Prince or any male) flying in to come and save you from your feelings. Once you find this being everything is then fine, you forget about the past, and you live happily ever after. Happily ever after. A phrase that
only can become relevant after you’ve finished your romantic movie chapter. But what if this quote that is tattooed in our minds applied to you and only you. What if we forgot about the lessons taught by television and books and what if we began to understand that we have the power to create our version of this dated (and overrated) happily ever after lifestyle. Every person on their journey has had to overcome or is trying to overcome a struggle. Our demons can often overshadow the positives, and this is something everyone has in common. Sometimes taking a much-needed step back allows you to remove the pressure society is often subconsciously putting on all of us. The following idea will give you a moment to imagine a world that could exist if we didn’t have any social pressures, and this doesn’t involve the help of a Prince, it’s all you. Today, take a moment, whether that be before you cook dinner, while you’re
in the shower or any other minute you have to breathe and just imagine. Imagine a world that allows you to push. Somewhere that will enable you to push all the boundaries and tare all the walls down that are holding you back. Imagine a world where the media isn’t telling you what number the scales should show. The same people explaining the way your body should look are people who don’t realise that Barbie is just a doll. They say; be skinny but not too skinny, have curves but don’t carry any unnecessary weight, be toned and workout but don’t have more muscle than the men. I don’t know about you, but I find this somewhat confusing. I once read that even if we all ate the same and did the same exercises, we still wouldn’t all look the same, and this is something we should always remind ourselves. And just so everyone’s aware a bikini body is a body, anybody wearing a bikini. Social standards of what a typical body should look like

should be utterly irrelevant to us and imagine if it was. Without the pressure to fit into the medias dress size, we could and would focus on our health, and that should always be the priority. Imagine if a magazine or your Instagram feed showed you real-life raw images of something relatable for you. You open the media application, and there’s someone completely barefaced, looking a little tired (because aren’t we all) but embracing it. Showing the world that what this industry may see as imperfections they can embrace and use it to empower others. Imagine people using their platform for the greater good, to spread awareness for things that matter; mental health, the discrimination that continuously gets overlooked in society, and so much more. Not every other post should be an advertisement. Social media is not just a platform to produce capital. It’s a media to show young people, older people, all people, that the impossible is possible and they get a front-row seat to enjoy the journey. Clicking on the app or turning the page should never involve the thoughts of ‘why aren’t I good enough’, ‘why don’t I look like that’, we should be able to appreciate others while
still knowing our worth. We should always feel represented by the media, which is easier said than done, but we will continue to strive for change. And imagine the day that you do feel represented within the media, the day you can open up that magazine and see someone you see as relatable. During this day, you scroll through Instagram, and it’s more than traditional beauty its real people shinning through all the constant pressure that upon them. Imagine a world where the first film our children watch doesn’t involve the plot of a Prince swooping in to save them and isn’t portraying a stereotypical body type of what people want. A day where dolls show young people that you don’t have to look this way to be considered beautiful or handsome. That moment where you no longer have to explain to young people that its ok to not look like everyone else because they already know it. The time that online hate or bullying isn’t present in peoples day to day lives because we have the correct understanding on how to deal with this and know the ways to stop comments flooding through our tech. Imagine a moment where there isn’t this pressure to be a superhero and have
everything under control. A moment where you can break and realise your true feelings without judgement. A moment where you stop the work taking control of you, a moment where you remove negative energy and negative people. A moment where you pull the people that don’t pressure you closer and forget about the people who always urge you to perform with a mask and pull yourself together. It’s time to take the control back, remove the mask and stop just imagining a time where this social pressure doesn’t control our lives. These people who hold us back don’t know what beauty is. Beauty is loving yourself. Beauty is having control of your life. Beauty is achieving. Beauty is believing. Knowing this doesn’t mean we don’t love Cinderella or a good romcom; it just means we know we don’t have to strive to be them; there are other paths on offer. You can complete the exact life you imagined. All you need and all you have ever needed is you. Just remove the pressure. And live freely in a world without social pressure. Written By: Chloe Hicks.

AN ARTICLE about ways you can keep your wardrobe that little greener.
Did you know that the second biggest industry damaging the environment right now is actually the fashion industry? This statistic may seem crazy; because vintage clothing, thrifted clothing and veganism is so on trend, however the unfortunate truth is that the ‘one wear’ culture is actually more damaging than you may have originally thought. During this current lockdown period we have all been fantasising about the outfit we will next wear as soon as we can go for lunch with the girls, our next date night at our favourite restaurant and our first family BBQ when this is all over. This has led to asking the friend with student discount, or the friend with next day delivery for a ‘favour’ a few too many times these past few months, without thinking about the potential repercussions on the planet. Obviously, it is not plausible for us all to never buy any more clothes ever again, and treating yourself is one of the only things getting us through this hard time, but here are a few tips on how
to keep your wardrobe a bit greener whilst remaining stylish. 1.Borrow from friends. This is a simple, obvious way to make a very easy change, and if you and your friends have similar taste, this means that you can wear a dress that hasn’t been seen on your Instagram already, without spending any money and without purchasing some unnecessary form of fast fashion (it’s a win win!), and of course this goes for any event that you may want a new outfit for. 2.Reinvent some old purchases. Before just throwing away that old T-Shirt from 2017, have a rethink about what could be done to potentially reinvent it. Crop it? Change the neckline? Even tye-dye it! (Another huge trend right now!) And how about those jeans you got last year but don’t wear anymore? Chop them into shorts! Rip them, bleach them, have fun and be creative! It may stop you splurging on a new piece. 3.Shop second hand. Depop, eBay and even Facebook marketplace can have some great steals, as well and some really
original pieces that can easily become staples. It’s a great for those people who haven’t mastered the art of Charity Shops, a simple scroll can land you your next iconic dress, or bargain designer scarf! Shopping second hand is one of the best ways for you to have a fabulous new item in your wardrobe, and focus on sustainability at the same time. 4.Buy timeless pieces. The issue with this fast paced Fashion world we live in is the social pressures to maintain the newest styles and the latest labels. A way to combat this is to invest in more iconic, timeless pieces. This could be a white summer dress you can wear every summer for the next 5 years, a pair of black winter boots that won’t show signs of wear for a long time, or even a trench coat that will be able to be worn for years and years to come. Whatever it is, something that can be incorporated every season is a fantastic way to keep your outfits both stylish and ethical. Of course, from time to time that next day delivery is needed, (I am sure we

are all guilty of that!) and we don’t always have the patience, time, or even money to ensure that every clothing item we own is completely sustainable, but the simple changes that we can all make right now can have such a huge impact on the environment, and hopefully has introduced some new ideas of how you can stay looking fabulous, yet helping the planet all at the same time.
