This project gave me the opportunity to explore some of the things that have surrounded me throughout my life that I may not of previously considered. It allowed me to be extremely personal yet completely separate to the project at the same time. Leaving your childhood home can be quite difficult for some people, it was not for me. I have known I wanted to move out of when I reached eighteen since I was about seven. I have now lived away from my childhood home for 3 years and since living away my thoughts and perceptions of the area have changed. It wasn’t an unhappy childhood I had in this area, nor a particularly happy one, it was mediocre, mundane, normal. But since moving away, I have started to reminisce about my childhood. The places I used to spend hours playing, where I used to wait for bus during the longest 5 years of secondary school, the neighbours houses who surrounded mine. Leaving somewhere and returning after a while allows you to look at it in a new light and notice things you may not have before. This can be true for many things that are part of, and surround, our everyday lives. There are things you may see, yet barely notice or don’t appreciate. This project explores those things, notices them, and appreciates them. In particular, this project explores everyday things that evoke nostalgia, for instance the photos of the estate I grew up on make me reminisce on things from my childhood. There are often things you could notice that jog your memory of something and that is the purpose of the photos you will see in this publication. To jog a memory or remind you of memories you may have forgotten, these could be good or bad. I wanted to create a project that was personal to me but could be relatable for many people. It is the beginning of an idea that can follow many different paths.
