Welcome to the July/August issue. Life at CHN has been somewhat hectic over the last few weeks due to an office move.

We have also been busy doing a tried and tested on Strawmax Bedding. We are used to having traditional straw bedding, so this was quite an adventure for us. It was very easy to set up and maintain, and we were impressed with it.

Another adventure arrived, in the form of a beautiful black cob called Taylor (our cover star this issue with his former rider, Sue Anness). I put on my brave pants and climbed aboard for the first time in six years! It was not a pretty sight, but the saint that is Taylor looked after me, leaving me feeling very inspired. He really is ‘thoroughbred in the body of cob’. I just need to lose some weight now so that I am not rolling about on the poor boy!

Back to this issue. We have an article about equine behaviour, and also one about the stifle joint. Both are very informative and make interesting reading. There is also a fantastic competition prize; a Masta Rug given by Harry Hall.

With the summer shows and events well underway, we have plenty of event dates listed to help with your diary planning. Fingers crossed the weather behaves itself, and there are no cancellations. Always check the event is taking place before setting out on the day of the show, as our dates are entered up weeks before we go to print.

Enjoy the rest of the summer. See you mid September

Major championship sponsorship announcement between Harry Hall and the Veteran Horse Society.

Harry Hall International Limited is delighted to announce a significant sponsorship agreement for the Veteran Horse Society National Championships later this year.

The Veteran Horse Society National Championships is the largest veteran equine event in the UK. It’s held over three days at Arena UK in Lincolnshire, the UK's largest equine showground and includes the prestigious end of season Supreme Finals and the much-acclaimed Veteran of the Year. The event offers over 120 classes (showing, dressage, jumping and fun classes), most of which are open to members as well as non-members, with no qualification necessary.

The Veteran Horse Society is solely dedicated to the care and welfare of horses and ponies over the age of 15. The championships celebrate these horses and their owners and the care they bestow on them. The Society’s principles are closely aligned with those of Harry Hall and the Harry Hall One Club, offering affordable membership, insurance and shopping for horse owners, allowing them to look after their equines affordably.

Liz Hopper, CEO of Harry Hall explains, "We're horse owners and riders too and we understand that this is a lifestyle, not a hobby. That's why, in 2017, we created the One Club where our members benefit from our mission to make horse ownership more affordable. We've been helping horse owners for over 130 years and we’re delighted to be supporting the Veteran Horse Society National Championships”.

Julianne Ashton, Founder of the Veteran Horse Society, said: "We are delighted to be working alongside Harry Hall and we are sure this will be a long and successful partnership, not only for the Championships but for the Society, our supporters and most importantly, their veterans.

Allen & Page, An innovative, family-owned company sponsors the Veteran Horse Society showing series and championships, formulating and manufacturing non-GM horse feeds. "We are thrilled to be working with Harry Hall over the three days of the Championships," said Tim Page, Sales Director of Allen & Page.

Blue Cross publishes new ‘Mary King approved’ practical horse care guides

National Pet Charity Blue Cross has added three new practical horse care guides to its website to help horse owners keep their precious charges healthy and happy in the summer months. The guides, on keeping horses safe in summer, weight monitoring and atypical myopathy, join the charity’s extensive library of information on horse care.

“These new guides are brilliant,” said Blue Cross Equestrian Ambassador and Olympic champion event rider Mary King. “They have been written by Blue Cross’s highly knowledgeable welfare manager Ruth Court and make very useful reading for every type of horse owner. Ruth has chosen three important topics: keeping horses safe in hot weather and weight monitoring are very relevant for summer health and welfare while atypical myopathy is a dangerous disease that everyone should be aware of, no matter the time of year.”

Keeping horses safe in hot weather covers the dangers heat can present to horses and provides some essential tips to help keep horses cool when the temperature rises.

How to weigh a horse explains the benefits of regular weight monitoring, the methods of weighing a horse and some top tips for weight management. Atypical myopathy (sycamore poisoning) in horses outlines the causes, signs and symptoms of this fatal disease, and provides practical details about how you
