5 Study Techniques to Try Today Are you finding studying difficult? You're not the only one. In fact many colleges and universities have departments dedicated to helping their students pick up vital study skills. It's likely that whatever approach you're using is the problem, not because you're "stupid". Therefore it's time to try something new. Take a deep breath and try using one or all of the methods listed below: 1. Find a better place to do your studying. Try several different locations. Your bedroom might have too many distractions, but could also be the quietest place to work. It might be tempting to spend your time at the library chatting, but you find the resources there the best for your studies. A coffee shop might be too noisy, but the atmosphere inspires your creative side. Experiment. 2. Make more diagrams. It could be that trying to absorb words off a page is not enough to get you to remember or know how to apply something. Draw pictures and diagrams to help the information get absorbed into your brain. Mind maps are good for this. 3. Have you tried making audio recordings of your notes? Record yourself reading the notes for your course out loud, and play them back to yourself at every opportunity, e.g. whilst running, cooking dinner, etc. 4. Schedule work, but also schedule plays. You're going to burn out rather fast if you attempt to study for hours on end with no break. Instead of just making time for work in your day, make time for play as well. Just make sure you stick to your timetable! 5. Don't leave studying until the last minute. Study all year round. It will make the last minute sprint at exam time so much easier! Of course, this is a very small list of study techniques that you could potentially use. However, you may have to do some searching before you find that technique that's right for you. Don't give up, and aim high! If this article was of interest to you, then you might also be interested in speed study techniques.
