RECLAIMING TEACHING SYLLABUS

editor's note
teacher's note This syllabus is primarily for public school educators, administrators, and students. However it is also beneficial for parents, and other stakeholders impacted by the bureaucracy of the public education system. This syllabus should serve as a guiding tool to transform hostile environments for teachers into training grounds for critical thinking, and knowledge sharing for both students and educators. This innovation could lead to more enhanced student learning by allowing students and teachers to work together in order to form a more direct link to real life learning. Students will therefore become more engaged and invested in their own learning which will lead them to become more proactive with their own educational values and needs.

Ask the editors HOW IS THE CURRICULUM INNOVATIVE?
A KEY COMPONENT OF INNOVATION IS PRACTICALITY. THIS SYLLABUS PROVIDES ACCESSIBLE READING AND VIEWING MATERIAL IN ADDITION TO REFLECTIVE ACTIVITIES THAT REIMAGINE AND TEST THE POSSIBILITIES WITHIN A CLASSROOM.
GENERALLY SPEAKING YOU COULD USE PRACTICAL METHODS IN HOW CAN THE ORDER TO REACH EDUCATORS SUCH AS: UNIONS, PTA’S, INNOVATION BE DEVELOPMENTS, AND NEWSLETTERS. MORE COMMUNICATED PROFESSIONAL SPECIFICALLY SPEAKING YOU COULD UTILIZE OTHER RESOURCES WITH A WIDER IN ORDER TO REACH OTHERS SUCH AS: GENERAL WEBSITE, SOCIAL GROUP, AND MADE MEDIA, EMAIL, ETC. THIS IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON A PUBLIC ELECTRONIC NEWSSTAND “ISSUU” WHICH ALLOWS BOTH SITE CLEAR AND USERS AND VISITORS TO VIEW THIS AND ADDITIONAL CATALOGS. ACCESSIBLE?
WHAT APPROACH YOU ARE TAKING TO THIS PROJECT?
WE ARE SURFACING THIS CURRICULUM. WE CHOSE TO RESEARCH MORE INTO THE EXISTING TECHNIQUES THAT ARE ALREADY IN PLACE IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM. BY DIVING DEEPER INTO THESE TECHNIQUES, WE WERE ABLE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS CAN TRANSFORM THEIR CLASSROOMS INTO MORE BENEFICIAL AND COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS.

"I think oftentimes what happens is we conflate the idea that certain things should be discussed in a classroom with the notion that a teacher is going to indoctrinate students with their own beliefs. And I think that that is not actually what critical pedagogy is. Critical pedagogy is this idea that you are going to create a space in your classroom in which students are able to develop their own sense of critical consciousness and engagement with the world. And what does it mean for me as a critically and culturally responsive educator to provide the space for you to understand the social and historical and political context that led us to this moment, where people's arguments on either side are stemming from?
