Friday Evening, Upper East Side.
I didn’t think you could clean up like this.
Then tell me.
Tell you what?
Anything. Everything.
heh. there’s a lot you don’t know about me.
Not likely.
You’re so damned secretive.
Okay. You can ask one Just question. one.
How does a black man... ...become the leader of the biggest Latino gang in Brooklyn?
My parents met at a nightclub back in the day.
She liked his swag, he liked her... everything.
Mom was black and Dad is Puerto Rican.
Back then, an interracial couple was almost unheard of. Plus, they were from two rival neighborhoods. I was born and Mom named me Raymond after my Grandpa.
Dad was excited to be a father.
He brokered a truce between hoods so he could come and go as he pleased.
They even talked about a merger,
and that’s when things went bad.
Aren’t you doing a merger with the Japanese guys?
That’s not a merger, it’s a partnership. We’re still Ochos Locos and they’re still Waku-whatever.
I learned from my Dad’s mistakes.
Mom and Dad were chillin’ at a party and these dudes came in to rob the place.
But it was more like a hit on my Dad. I guess some guys weren’t feelin’ the merger idea.
But Dad wasn’t going out like that so he blasts back.
BLAM!
BLAM! BLAM!
I don’t know how he did it.
Dude had three holes in him and he still took out 2 of the 3 guys.
Your Dad was a G.
My Dad is a G.
But then she was killed in a drive-by. It was just me and my Mom for a while... after Dad went away on that shooting.
So it was off to my Granny’s place in Harlem.
BLAM!
I didn’t fit in with the blacks, and the Ricans didn’t want me either.
I got picked on a lot but I learned how to scrap.
Got good grades too. Granny made sure of that.
But when Dad got out, I went to live with him.
It was like instant respect. Didn’t matter if I was half-black or not,
Dad called me Ramon. He got me fitted, taught me Spanish.
nobody messed with me in my Dad’s hood.
It was like Raymond never happened.
I just watched what my Dad did...
... and I did the same thing. If you wanna deal at my school, it’s gonna be 10% every Friday.
Where’s my 10%?
So when he went back in, he put me in charge.
While I’m gone, Ramon is in charge. Anybody got a problem with that?
Been running it ever since.
I knew your Dad was from the neighborhood,
He started Ochos Locos, and I’m holdin’ it down til he gets back. Well now you know more about me, and about the family business.
but I didn’t know he was Hector Castillo!
Isn’t your Dad getting out soon?
Couple of weeks.
What happens then? Then we run it Together. He’ll love the new guns and shit.
Like you said, my Dad’s a g!
