What should I wear?

Daytime wear is casual: comfortable shoes are essential for going ashore, sightseeing and walking on deck, and as the sun begins to set, a lightweight jacket or coat is recommended too.

By day and by night, when Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ ships are at sea; this special time is devoted entirely to you to fulfil your needs. As the sun dips towards the horizon and the afternoon dissolves slowly into the dusk, the shipboard mood changes as the programme begins to focus on the pleasures of the evening ahead.

During the day the restaurants request you adhere to an appropriate dress code e.g. no swimwear. When it comes to evening, dressing for dinner is traditional. During your cruise there will be some casual as well as themed evenings, such as ‘Nautical’ ‘International’ or ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’.

Generally speaking, the style is informal, with gentlemen wearing a jacket and tie (lounge suit or sports jacket is fine) and ladies smartly dressed. On ‘Formal’ evenings, gentlemen will prefer to wear ‘black tie’ with ladies elegantly dressed in cocktail or evening dress. As a guideline there are usually four formal nights on a two-week cruise. Details will be supplied with your travel documents.

Located almost 70 degrees north, this Botanic Garden is the northern most in the world. At almost 4.5 acres, this large garden is situated as far north as the northern most parts of Alaska, and was opened in 1994. The extreme arctic climate is not to be found here - thanks to the Gulf Stream the area of Tromsø has a relatively mild winter with the summer being cool with an average temperature in July of 11.8°Celcius (53° Fahrenheit). The garden has a wide variety of plants from different parts of the world, and throughout the season some plants will always be in bloom. The Garden is divided into 20 different geographical or botanical themes (collections).

Mount Usher Gardens

Voted The Most Romantic Garden to visit in 2010 and The Best Garden to visit in 2009 & 2010 in the Republic of Ireland by BBC Gardener’s World Magazine! This lovely "Robinsonian" garden, laid out along the Vartry River, measures 8ha and dates back to around 1850. The river is spanned by suspension bridges, from which numerous waterfalls and superb views can be enjoyed. There are approximately 5000 different species of plants, shrubs and trees, originating from many parts of the world. Like all the great gardens of Ireland, Mount Usher offers varying pleasures at different seasons of the year. Rhododendrons in Spring, a blaze of Summer colour and the wistful tints of Autumn, all elegantly set off by the crystal waters of the river.

Enjoy a morning visit to the Flor & Fjaere, a blossoming garden of exotic plants on the island of Sor Hidle. Olav Bryn designs the gardens and park year after year. He spends the winter season thinking up and creating new combinations, finding new plants and flowers and looking for nuances not yet tested. The result is an explosion of colours, and when he is asked what his source of inspiration is, he answers quickly: “the rainbow”. Enjoy a scenic boat trip through the Gandsfjord and on arrival at the lovely harbour, there is a short walk to the gardens. We’ll be give a guided walk of the gardens with one of the knowledgeable garden guides before having free time to explore the exotic gardens at your own leisure.

Tallinn is a city that stays connected with its history, with many neighbourhoods providing excellent snapshots into the various periods of its past. Nynäshamn is generally relaxed, in contrast to the bustle of Stockholm. The surrounding nature and sea provides plenty of photographic opportunities, once you get out of the town centre.

Kristiansund is a vibrant island filled with deep fjords, steep mountains and the incredible Atlantic Road.

Liverpool

focus on st. petersburg Otherwise known as the Venice of the North, The City of St Petersburg is utterly captivating. The wide elegant St. Petersburg, Russia streets and broad curving canals gives the famous city a real sense of history. The main street Nevsky Prospekt is lined with bars, restaurants and cafes, mixed with hotels and shops giving a tasteful modern twist. The real star attraction to St Petersburg has to be the Winter Palace which not only dominates Palace Square but also plays a central political and cultural role in the city.

A cruise holiday is the time to truly enjoy those little pleasures in life. A cruise holiday is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself in a way that you don't neccessarily have time to do at home. Whether it's the chance to perfect your golf swing, enjoy a bit of pampering in our spa, or just relax on deck with a book and occasional dip in the Jacuzzi - a Fred. Olsen cruise has it all...

Atlantis Spa & Salon Each Fred. Olsen cruise ship has a well-equipped beauty salon and spa: the Atlantis Spa and Fitness Centre. Open from 8am to 8pm daily, they offer a range of beauty and relaxation treatments, including massage, facials, manicures, pedicures and hair dressing. Demand for treatments is always high, so it is advised to book as soon as possible after you embark, or pre-book by emailing the Spa on board your cruise ship

Swimming Pool & Jacuzzi There's an art to relaxation, and if your idea of a great cruise is taking in the sunshine on deck between ports of call, then an occasional dip in the pool or Jacuzzi will be right up your street!

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

Additionally, you may wish to 'smile a mile' (5 times walking around the cruise deck on Black Watch and Boudicca equals 1 mile) or swim a few lengths in the pool.

• GOLF NETS: Practice your golf swing to your hearts' content using the nets aboard all four of our cruise ships.

On port days, there are often special promotions on spa and salon treatments, so it's worth looking out for those in the Daily Times newsletter, delivered to your cabin every evening.

Fitness Centre & Sauna All four of Fred. Olsen cruise ships have the same high standard of facilities: enabling you to enjoy a fully equipped fitness centre, with treadmills, rowing machines, exercise bikes and a variety of free weights on your cruise holiday. On Boudicca, the Fitness Centre has recently been repositioned high up on the Sun Deck, so that you can enjoy panoramic views while exercising. A choice of fitness classes, to suit most levels, is available throughout your cruise holiday, including yoga, aerobics, stretch & tone and pilates; all conducted by fully-qualified fitness instructors. A small charge is made for some classes. Additionally, you may wish to 'smile a mile' (5 times walking around the cruise deck on Black Watch and Boudicca equals 1 mile) or swim a few lengths in the pool. And then, there is always the sauna and steam room for postfitness relaxation! (Please note: there is no sauna or steam room on Balmoral). On port days, there are often special promotions on spa and salon treatments, so it's worth looking out for those in the Daily Times newsletter, delivered to your cabin every evening.

• Library All Fred. Olsen cruise ships have a wellappointed library on board offering a wide range of books, including some large print books. • Gaming Tables There is a small gaming area on all four of Fred. Olsen cruise ships, where you can try your hand at Blackjack and Roulette. Please note that games of chance may not be charged back to your cabin account.

the sunshine islands

focus on LISBON The Portuguese Lisbon, Portugal capital lies just to the north of the river Tagus, Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world but it contains a delightful mix of palaces, churches and gardens whilst also being able to boast wonderfully constructed modern architecture. Lisbon is a city of incredibly picturesque streets and views. Look out from the top of a romantic set of hills which give a real insight into the history of the city, plus because it has only recently become a tourist destination it still has many areas of heritage still to be discovered.
