Strategy Some of my favourite memories as a child was when I went fishing with my Dad and my Uncle. There were many different reasons for this, there was a certain freedom to be had when being outdoors, battling your wits against nature trying to catch the ‘fish of the day’. It was also a big bonding experience between me and my family, they taught me how to fish, the different types of fishing and the different species of fish. But it was not only the teaching that brought us together, it was also the fierce competition to catch the most and the biggest fish. As I have got older, moved out and gone to university we spend far less time together, especially time to go fishing, but that has not stopped me from having an interest in it, or from remembering how much I enjoyed that time. The reason I produced this book was to hopefully spread some basic knowledge about fishing, because I fear that it is a declining hobby and the skills and techniques are being lost. It can be an inexpensive and fulfilling hobby that can be done individually or in groups, in these tough economic times it seems like it is an ideal pastime that anybody can pick up. Fishing has also been used as a stress reliever and a method of gaining inspiration by many different types of people, such as artists, business men and the retired. It enhances your understanding of the environment and has the added benefit of hopefully providing you with something nutritious and often organic to eat!
When starting this project I gathered research from books dedicated to the subject, along with websites, newspapers and magazines. I looked into both the technical and the cultural importance of fishing, such as the dwindling fish stocks in European seas, to the issues in Sierra Leon. Along with this research I attempted to gather other peoples stories on the subject, by sending letters to newspapers and asking people to fill out a survey on internet forums. After collecting and categorizing the data I realised that in order to achieve my aim of making a book that was simple yet informative I needed to cut down to the core basics on fishing yet still give people enough background information and reasons to go fishing in order for them to give it a try. Therefore I focused on coarse fishing and the techniques surrounding that type of fishing.

Fonts Used
Minion Pro Semibold Italic 24pt Minion Pro Regular 12pt Minion Pro Light Italic 12pt When I was designing my book I was using the fonts Din and Palatino. I chose those fonts because of Palatinos easy reading and Dins impact value. However through the course of designing my book I wanted to achieve a more ‘classic’ look and feel to the book therefore I looked for a clean easy reading serif typeface. I chose Minion firstly because of the large amounts of weights and how i could incorporate them into the design, secondly because I felt it suited the books aim of simple information of a historic pastime. Paper Stock and Size I chose to use the page size 9in x 7in because of the large amount of photography in the book. At this size I felt the images where shown at their best. The covers when printed onto a white gloss stock so that if people where using this book whilst fishing it would be as resistant to water as I could make it within cost constraints.
