CONTRAST Contrast:
The arrangement of opposite elements (light & dark colours, rough & smooth textures, large & small shapes, etc.) in a piece so as to create visual interest and excitement
RHYT HM Rhythm:
A feeling of movement and direction, commonly by placement of objects. The elemts of the composition have a ow that directs the eyes around the image.
PATTERN Pattern:
Using the elements of design in planned or random repetitions to make the design interesting. Pattern increases visual excitement by creating interest.
Balance:
A feeling of visual equality. Balance is usually symmetrical, but can also use some asymmetry. Objects, values, colours, textures and shapes can be used in creating a balance in a composition.
Variety:
A way of combining elements to create interesting relationships. Variety is often created by using a diversity of many dierent hues, values, lines, textures, and shapes.
Emphasis:
Attracting attention to a certain area in a composition. This can be achieved by using contrast of values, colours, shapes and placement.
