Color Studies Color is one of the most important aspects in a design. For this design I felt that from the color of the sauce, the color of the actual peppers, regional colors, and past products like mine, that this was a good starting color palette to start playing with. From here I continued to try and mix and match the colors and also eliminate some of the colors that are not working.

Pattern Studies Patterns are fun, meaningful, colorful, and full of potential. With hot sauce I was naturally attracted the idea of a drop of hot sauce. So taking that drop shape and rotating it, making it its own shape, or just easily repeating it was lots of fun to play around with. It gives the designer a chance to look at how colors mix as well. For this design though I did not use a pattern. I felt it was better to go in a different direction.

ANALOGUE

Type Studies I had a lot of different ideas for typographic directions. Combining different typefaces and colors, as well as overlapping antonyms. The overlapping ideas was mainly geared towards drawing people in to “decode” the message on the bottle and in doing so they would reveal what kind of sauce it was or if it was sweet, spicy, etc. Also there was some exploration with hand drawn type and getting across a clean and professional feel for TryMe sauces. Different lock ups of type were an idea mostly because the original packaging has some handwritten looking type on the plastic seal before purchase.

Concepts

Starting out there were a lot of different concepts though. I tried family approach, professional, professional type, recognizable, trustworthy, affordable, regional, etc. These are all some starting concepts

Type Studies Pinup/Sketches

I ended up going with a pinup girl concept I came up with early on. Playing off the descriptive words of hot, spicy, sweet, zesty, etc. I also had not seen much pinup gals for hot sauce branding. I think it was a good spin on the brand type and had potential. This is the progression of sketches, as you can see they started off real rough.

Mock Ups Every design must go through iterations and mock ups when it comes to a branding project. Seeing it on the bottle or printed out on the box creates a completely different look and feel for the design.
