Val di Chio Passage Castiglion Fiorentino

In the 12th century the ancient Etruscan city of Castiglion Fiorentino was densily populated by people using narrow streets and alleys. Today the narrow streets and alleys are dominated by vehicular traffic which neglects the needs of the pedestrian. By re-designing gathering spaces and paths we can give the people of Castiglion Fiorentino an adequate meeting space and safe place to walk.

Val di Chio Passage Castiglion Fiorentino

Castiglion Fiorentino is an old castle city that has a main urban center, a small suburban area, and a lot of agricultural rural land. In attempting to blur the edge condition, my group and I came up with a back bone park system that would begin B to connect all three levels. Once divided, I was tasked with designing the wet land park area at the base of the mountainous terrain.

Alma Backyard Farms Chicken Coop Design

The Alma Backyard Farms is a non-profit organization which helps, formerly incarcerated women establish themselves in society. Upon reentering the work force, woman are faced with the hardship of finding work and food to provide for their families. In colaboration with Alma Backyard Farms, our design group focused on creating a modular chicken coop design that could be easily built with common hardware, at the least possible cost. The design features a detachable modular chicken run, which could me used to be placed over vegtable gardens that wil in turn fertilize the soil.

Gardens Making Place Design Competition

The gardens making place design competion was in coloboration with Pitzer college. The competition was set forth to provide a solution for lower income households to produce the maximum amount of food. In the group entry, we chose to incorporate the lower income families as well as the surroundng communities. We proposed to create a central garden home which had room for expansion that would be ran by the neigboring schools. we believed that by educating the youth in the communities to eat healthier, it would in turn benefit the community as a whole. As soon as our flagsship home model would take off. we would incentivise other homes within 5 minute walking distance to participate in the program so that fresh food would always be readily available.

The Cultivated Commonwealth of Los Angeles Phase One

During the design process for the Cultivated Commonwealth of Los Angeles, I began to do research on a large portion of the populatioin less fortune than most. The homeless community is a major part of Los Angeles. In order to gain a better understanding of the dire situation in our country, I roughly mapped the homeless population from data gathered through my research. Likewise, I also, took the opportunity to identify the counties that offered shelters for the homeless.

The Cultivated Commonwealth of Los Angeles Phase Two

With the reinvestment and revitalization of the LA River, we feel that it is necessary for the city of Los Angeles to reinvest in its people as well. The CCLA is a means of which to do so, through shared positive social engagment with creative expression. By allowing people of all demographics the ability to engage the site through our programs and typologies, The CCLA enclave of Los Angeles diverse culture centered around creativity, sustainability, social justice and the transforming LA River.

Albert on a Train Italy Sketch

Living in Italy was transformative. It allowed me to immerse myself, completely, into a new culture. The people, the places, connections and ideology that were cultivated abroad will forever run through the fabric of my being. One of the greatest experiences was being able to become self-reliant on public transportation. One factor that never crossed my mind before traveling was all the down time that is experienced traveling from place to place. Once, established I began to draw human subjects, that for the most part, had to sit still for some time. The picture on the left depicts a friend as we travelled to Follonica, Italy.

Giant at Villa Lante Italy Sketch

The garden is arranged on 3 levels, climbing from one tier to the next, you can turn and appreciate the view of not just the previous level but that of the tower of the Bogo of Bagnaia. I was transported to another age and heady lifestyle and can only begin to imagine how the gardens must have impressed and entertained guests. My sketch depicts one of two identical giant stone river gods. They form the multitude of a grand fountain that lies at the head of the main dinning table.
