Meet the Staff
The Blue Mantle would not be possible without the invaluable contributions of students and staff. Some, including this year's editors-in-chief, were a part of the yearbook staff for their entire four years at Christendom — for that, the college owes them a huge debt of gratitude.
2018-19 Staff
Senior Editor-in-Chief....................... Zach Smith (4 Years) Editor-in-Chief....................... Nicole Feldman (4 Years) Editor-in-Chief....................... Maria Pogue (4 Years) Editor-in-Chief....................... Sarah Ziegler (4 Years) Graphic Designers....................... Ashley Way, Mikaela Bailey, Jillian Rugg, Lianna Youngman, Vivian Zadnik, Joseph Halecky, Teresa Ford.
Special Thanks............... The Blue Mantle staff especially wants to thank Sarah Ziegler and Maria Pogue for their four years of time, energy, and sacrifice doing headshots every year. Spending countless lunches taking student photos, these two truly went above and beyond in order to make the yearbook the best it could be, year after year.

From the Editors' Desk
Four years ago, I received an e-mail from Zach Smith asking if anyone in the upcoming Freshmen class had an interest in reviving the Christendom yearbook. I had no idea that my response to that e-mail would lead to one of the most fulfilling pieces of my time at Christendom. My main goal for the yearbook has always been to create something that makes every student on campus feel like they are part of the Christendom family when they see themselves on its pages. It has not been an easy ride, but it has been a joy to grow and improve myself as the yearbook has grown and improved over the years. Zach, Nicole, Sarah, and I are all leaving Christendom to pursue new things, but I am not worried for the fate of the yearbook, in the same way that I am not worried for myself or my fellow staff members. Christendom has enabled us to build strong foundations for ourselves that will help us be successful, as well as handle failure. I know that we have built a similarly strong foundation for the yearbook these four years, and I am confident that its success will continue. Thank you to everyone who has ever worked for the yearbook staff and thank you to all my classmates for your input throughout the years. It has been a joy to serve you in this way and I will certainly miss it (except for headshots, I am so glad to be done with headshots).
- Maria Pogue, Editor-in-Chief
It is hard to believe that four years of working on the yearbook committee has now passed. When I first signed up I had no idea how much this club would affect my time at Christendom, but it was the first thing that I ever signed up to do and now it is the last thing I will ever work on in my time here. Bringing back this tradition was such an honor, and now we all have yearbooks to look back on when we are old and grey to remember all the great times we had together. It has been such a blessing to be a part of such a fantastic and talented team, and to be able to give back to the Christendom community just a little of everything it has given me. I hope this tradition lives on long after we are gone, and I hope this last yearbook from our original team brings all of you happy memories of this past year, I know I am incredibly glad to have so many memories of my senior year captured in this book. Thank you all for the support of our team over the years!
- Sarah Ziegler, Editor-in-Chief
After being involved in yearbook editing for the last five years, I can’t believe the time has come for me to write my final farewell as an editor. While at Christendom, the yearbook was a constant for me. It became my creative outlet, alongside the work I did with the Christendom Players. I spent many late nights and summer weekends in the marketing office creating this tangible book of memories. So much has changed during my four years at Christendom, but I feel as though my unique memories have been added to the collection of traditions shared by all alumni. As seniors, the graduation dance evoked memories of the first time we ever attempted to swing dance in the Commons. Memories like this one are shared not only among classmates, but also older siblings and sometimes even parents. Christendom truly functions as a family. This familial solidarity was extremely obvious this last semester when the community came together to mourn the passing of Fr. O’Kielty, Dr. Burns, and Dr. Keats. I’m sad to leave this family, but I know we will always be connected through prayer and the memories we shared. I am so grateful to have been a part of the team that brought the yearbook back to life.
- Nicole Feldman, Editor-in-Chief
Back in 2015, I was a still a new hire at Christendom, fresh off of graduating and working at Disney. I was the first Public Relations Specialist at the college, which meant I was able to forge my own path in a lot of ways. One of those ways, at the suggestion of Mr. Tom McFadden, was bringing back the yearbook. I sent an email out to incoming freshmen looking for help, and what I got back was a core team that poured their passion, time, and energy into the yearbook for four years. Working alongside them was a joy and, when I look back at my nearly five years as a staff member of Christendom, it is one of the things I will remember most fondly. Students, faculty, and staff, this yearbook, and every yearbook we produced, was a true labor of love. I hope you enjoyed it, and thank you for your support these past years.
- Zach Smith, Senior Editor-in-Chief 103
the blue mantle: THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME
Christendom College was founded under the patronage of Our Lady of Fatima in 1977, who has helped the college grow and flourish in he forty years since. When the Christendom College yearbook was first estab ished in the 1980s, it took on the name "Blue Mantle" in honor of Our Lady. The yearbook would retain that name for a number of years, before the name changed simply to the "Christendom College Yearbook" later — a title that would stick through the 2012-13 academic year. For the yearbook's triumphant return in 2015-16, it was a no-brainer for the staff to bring the original name back as well, both as a tribute to the college's first yearbook staff and to the college's patroness as well.
The "Blue Mantle," in its 1989 edition.
