Developing New Futures

In ‘Developing New Futures,’ students utilise creativity, innovation, enterprise skills and the design thinking process to develop and prototype solutions to real world problems. By taking into account ethics, social values, economic, environmental and social sustainability factors and using strategies such as life cycle thinking, students specifically focus on preferred futures. In addition, by investigating global sustainability issues, students will develop understandings in the production and manufacturing of a wide range of materials and integrated Digital Technologies. They explore trends to imagine what the future will be like and suggest design decisions that contribute positively to preferred futures. In this process, they will experiment with and develop skills in the production of small items using a variety of materials from textiles to wood, metals and plastics. Students represent objects and ideas in a variety of forms such as thumbnail sketches, models, drawings, diagrams and storyboards to illustrate the development of designed solutions. They will also produce prototypes with rendered, illustrated views for marketing and promotional purposes.
