MORE THAN JUST A DAY
The Purpose Of The Pure Religion Project
The Pure Religion Project is a focused initiative inspired by the members of the Christian Alliance for Orphans and the broader CAFO community to help churches live out their calling to care for vulnerable children and families while growing closer to Jesus as His disciples. Simply put, the Project aims to inspire and equip God’s people to live the “pure religion” described in the book of James and invited throughout Scripture. This “pure religion” is both a growing deeper in faith and a living out of that faith wider.
Orphan Sunday, Stand Sunday and now - Pure Religion Sunday - are all opportunities for churches to set aside the second Sunday in November to recognize God’s heart for the orphaned and vulnerable and to respond in a variety of ways.
While your church may choose to recognize this special Sunday (or weekend, or mid-week service, etc.) on a different date or name it something else, the heart of the day remains the same. God has uniquely called and equipped the Church to care for vulnerable children and families - and this day is an opportunity to be reminded of the power of doing that together!
But it doesn’t end there…
NOT JUST A DAY. BUT A RESOURCE.
Whether you celebrate Orphan Sunday, Stand Sunday or Pure Religion Sunday, all are opportunities to a) catalyze a new focus and/or energy on building a ministry committed to caring for the vulnerable and orphaned or, b) celebrate all that God has done in your existing ministry and provide clear on-ramps for others to get involved. Either way, it’s more than just a day. It’s a “hinge” that connects two critical components of a much fuller strategy.
