Auf der titelgebenden, großformatigen Leinwand windet sich vor einer verschwommen Figurengruppe eine von Stäben durchbohrte Figur wie in einem Exorzismus. In der Installation „Vomere“ seziert Samorì ein lebensgroßes Männerportrait, horizontal auf eine Tischkonstruktion gemalt, vor einem monumentalen und gänzlich mit Kupfer überzogenem Dyptichon: Ausgehend von einer Darstellung eines anatomischen Theaters erkennt man unter dem Kupfer die große Gruppe von Betrachtern, die dem Spektakel folgen. In anderen Bildern gibt sich Samorì selbst penibler Detailarbeit hin und stellt auf einem Holzuntergrund eine Schmetterlingssammlung zusammen oder greift mit chirurgischer Akribie in seine selbstgeschaffenen Bildräume ein.
In the eponymous, large format painting on canvas, a figure is pierced by bars and struggles in front of a blurred group of figures in a mirroring of the practice of exorcism. In „Vomere“, the largest installation piece on display, Samorì physically dissects a horizontal life-size portrait of a man on a table placed in front of a monumental copper-coated diptych; among the copper, a large group of viewers in an anatomical theater follow the spectacle. In other paintings Samorì works with meticulous detail, creating a collection of butterflies on wood or physically attacking his own images with surgical precision.
Nicola Samorì wurde 1977 in Forli geboren und hat an der Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna studiert. Er lebt und arbeitet in Bagnacavallo nahe Ravenna, Italien. Seine Arbeiten waren in zahlreichen institutionellen Ausstellungen vertreten, so im italienischen Pavillon auf der 54. Biennale di Venezia und im Palazzo Reale in Mailand. Im Herbst 2012 hat die Kunsthalle Tübingen eine umfangreiche Einzelausstellung Samorìs gezeigt.
Nicola Samorì was born in Forli, Italy, in 1977 and studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna. He lives and works in Bagnacavallo near Ravenna, Italy. Samorì exhibited in numerous international institutions and museums, including the Italian Pavillon at the 54. Biennale di Venezia and Palazzo Reale in Milano. In autumn 2012, Kunsthalle Tübingen presentated the first major institutional survey on his work.
amorì umkreist das Thema Besessenheit aus verschiedenen Perspektiven: er untersucht die Obsession für den menschlichen Körper, für Religion, die Naturwissenschaften und die des Künstlers in Bezug auf sein eigenes Werk. Dabei bezieht er sich in seinen neuen Bildern und Skulpturen auf biblische und kunstgeschichtliche Darstellungen der „Heilung des Besessenen“ - am bekanntesten wohl in Raphaels „Transfiguration“ - wie auch auf Personen wie JeanMartin Charcot, einen Hysteriespezialisten des späten 19. Jahrhunderts oder auf Efisio Marini, einen italienischen Wissenschaftler und Mediziner, der aus konservierten Leichnamen sehr eigenwillige Skulpturen schuf.
amorì examines the theme of obsession from a number of different perspectives: that of the human body, religion, science, and the obsession of the artist with his own work. In his new paintings and sculptures he references art historical and biblical representations of ‚the healing of the possessed‘. Examples of such associations are Raphael‘s „Transfiguration“, Jean-Martin Charcot, who „invented“ the medical diagnosis of hysteria in his hospital in Paris in the late 19th Century, and Efisio Marini, an Italian scientist and physician who created rather unconventional sculptures from preserved corpses.
